I'll put the minimod up on stalker filefront.

I'll leave it with just the full bullet range
--vanilla ballistcs with no disspearing bullets.

Just give me a day or two...after a midterm I'll go write up the readme etc and post it.

Winchester Ballistics Calculator

for anyone interested, Winchester has a really nice ballistics calculator on their web site. You can compare a wide range of calibers and bullets, and get bullet drop and velocity.

Yep - great work by StalkerStalker (thumbsup).

I've still been working from time to time on balancing air resistance / muzzle velocities / damage stats in SoC, CS and CoP but have been seriously sidetracking on other stuff - ie. playing ARMA2, The Precursors and War in Paradise - as well as real life work etc.

Wow, it's been -some- time. Thanks, both, for the positive commments.

I never did release this tweak, huh. I suppose that was because I never quite finalized working with the ballistics model.

What's funny is that I'm now back to modding SHOC. I've finished all the rest of the modding that I want to play it, but am left stumped with the weapons, again.

I don't actually have Clear Sky installed on my system, anymore, so I can't upload the necessary files, but the best changes I can suggest, at least, for now, are the following:

k_dist = (some high number) for every k_dist line (every ammo type) in gamedata/config/weapons/weapons.ltx,

hit_probability_max_dist = (same high number) in the same file,

and changing the probability in each weapon file (as Chuppa suggested) to 1.0 (SHOC doesn't even have such values in the weapon specific .ltx files).

I couldn't take too seriously a thread from where one can read such a load of bullshit.
You obviously have little knowledge on how weapons actually work in this game and, above all, haven't done the slightest playtesting to support your wrong claim.

"Fire distance" in weapons' ltx absolutely works. You may have found an alternative, and so-called better way of featuring ballistics in Clear Sky, but to claim that GSC's one is broken ("complete rubbish"??) is simply ridiculous. The way bullets do react is a *developper's choice*, and definitely not the result of something that hasn't been finished properly, much like the NPP in SOC. Stalker has never pretended to be too realistic, and I guess that considering how badly accurate weapons already were, compared to other FPS, they decided not to make them worse by proposing this uncommon style of aiming (and I believe even realistic military shooters like ARMA2 don't have this).


Get a clue, or simply stfu.


PS: the whole purpose of this post is both to bash that ignorant modder AND to make sure new ones don't start modding their stuff being mislead by such unwanted lies.

How about you stfu and stop being such an obnoxious fanboy? The original distance was abysmal. Sure, you can make an argument that it was developer's choice, but it was a dumb choice. The updated weapons.ltx permits weapons to fire beyond a few metres. I honestly don't see what your problem is with this when it's so obviously a retarded concept to have guns that don't even fire to within walking distance. Is CS literally your first experience of firearms mechanics, or did you just think that mindlessly bashing someone who's massively improved the game would make you seem cool or somehow knowledgeable to a (now defunct) games company? The thread response here has been overwhelmingly positive and with good reason. So, once again, stfu you stereotypical fanboy. However, since your post seems frankly disturbed, if I've misinterpreted you then I rescind this section.

For those who can't be bothered to update their own weapons.ltx, I've made the changes to the file and zipped it with a readme for installation and backup in a .rar file. Here's the link:
