This is probably a stupid question, but will this fix work for rigs with only 2GBs of system ram too?

---QUOTATION---

I also found it to fix the breakable loot container problems I had, with the loot spawning away from the container instead of where I broke it. (A memory issue too).

---END QUOTATION---

I've had that problem too! Damn it - did the devs do ANY beta testing with this game ?

I've tried this and crashing may have been reduced (its too early to be sure) but I still have the problem with goodies spawning 20 feet or more from the crate I just broke.

I wanted to try this but apparently BCDEDIT is a Windows VISTA only application, I'm using XP. Does this mean that the above fix only works for Vista? any help is appreciated!

edit:

never mind, I didn't look in the archive you posted, my bad!

This may also apply to SSOC too? I've noticed I can still get an occasional CTD if I play with maximum settings even though framerates are good. If I drop texture detail down to 3/4 or 1/2 then its completely stable.

Playing in XP with 2gb RAM and 4gb fixed pagefile.

It prevents crashing and decreases loading times aswell as reducing the amount of stuttering (when there are explosions, gun flashes; when you break a box).

This can be used for many other games too, I have used it to decrease stuttering in BF2142, Garry's Mod/Half-Life 2, Bioshock etc..

I also found it to fix the breakable loot container problems I had, with the loot spawning away from the container instead of where I broke it. (A memory issue too).

Edit: That may be true Baconbuster, but after applying the patch this morning (again apparently), I experienced no crashing whatsoever; as opposed to the frequent crashing every hour.

It may/may not affect your game but there is no harm in applying it again (just to make sure).

Alternatively, it could be because I increased the virtual limit, but I guess we'll never know (Unless I set it back to default and see if the game crashes again).

That's great in all. but doing that edit to the xrEngine.exe is a waste of time.... GSC beat you to the punch on that and it's already in the header.

replace the startme in that supcom folder with this one http://www.sendspace.com/file/jngz57

add a unedited xrEngine.exe in the folder and check if you want to check. press V to show the header info

the 3GB switch is a good pointer for the n00bs though.

This will work for any operating system using 2 - 4 gigabytes of RAM.

The fault is in the operating system, not the game (well it is partially the games fault for using so much RAM!) and the operating system will hang an application that uses more than the available memory UNLESS you tag the application as largadressaware.

It is to my knowledge that Vista can only use 2gb, that is why we use /set increaseuserva 3072 which will increase this limit.
---END QUOTATION---

So thatll be why it thought i only had 2gb'of ram installed, but thats far more than enough dedicated to gaming,i have had ZERO CTD's,and performance is vastly better now ive turned off SSOA,shadows still look sweet.

Will this increase stalkers performance???or is it literally to stop it crashing.

I also recently increased my hard drives page file to 5gb up from 3.5

Memory Switch to Reduce Crashing

Since some people aren't able to search the internet to find the 3gb switch, I will provide it here.

The 3gb enabler will tag S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky as a program that uses alot of memory. This means that when Clear Sky uses more than the maximum allocated memory or RAM, the game will no longer crash as your operating system will understand how to handle the large data requirements.

Basically, this will allow Clear Sky to run even when it is using more RAM than available and reduces crashing when entering new areas or saving/loading.

Firstly, open command prompt with elevated administrator access and type in: BCDEDIT /set increaseuserva 2900
If you are running vista 32, use: BCDEDIT /set increaseuserva 3072

Next, download this file: [link]http://files.filefront.com/3GB+enabler2zip/;6791818;/fileinfo.html[/link]

Unzip and put the contents of the folder into your STALKER/BIN directory.

Now, open up the bin folder and backup the "xrengine.exe" file, then open up command prompt and set it to run inside the STALKER/BIN folder.

You can do this by typing: cd followed by the path to your stalker/bin directory.

eg. cd C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky\bin

Finally, type in this:
editbin.exe /LARGEADDRESSAWARE xrengine.exe

That is it. If your crashes are reduced then you have applied the patch correctly.
---END QUOTATION---

Wait a minute.
I was wondering why StCS is saying my system has 2gb RAM during installation. But i definitely got 3gb installed.
Am I guessing right, that ClearSky is only using 2gb????
Confused me is!
