Best bit of advice:

turn off prefetching. Now i'm not sure if it's as effecting with CS as it was with SoC, but turning off prefecting essentially only loads up the textures used within the current cell. It makes no real visible difference but clears up a lot of Graphics ram.

to do it, right click your Stalker shortcut, properties, and edit the file path. It should be something like:

'c:/program files/Stalker/stalker.exe'

As an example. Now add "-noprefetch" to the end of it. so what you have is:

'c:/programfiles/stalker/stalker.exe' -noprefetch

notice the quote marks. Enjoy.

His biggest limitation (other than dual channel not configured correctly)is that 3870 Vcard. I'd spend money on replacing that first.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. performance is also directly related to clock speed. After setting up dual channel (2 same size sticks in the correct slots) then overclock the 4200 to 2.7 or 2.75Ghz.

ugh I didn't have enough cash to get a good mobo =(

Argh!

God i am annoyed, the game lags on this sysyem:

q9540 3.2ghz
4870X2
4 GB RAM

Its rediculous that probably one of the highest spec machines lags in this game. It is so poorly optimised.

HAving said that i love the game so far when it runs ok (dx9).

Yeah, I only get more fps, when I set the view distance to minimum...

So, in Dx9 (maxed) I get 18-25 fps at the top of the oil station..
Then I set the view distance to minimum (the rest still maxed out) and suddenly I get ~40fps..
I also tried Dx10:
maxed out:10fps
maxed out, view distance minimum:25fps (but Dx10 lags like ****)

It doesnt matter what I change, my fps are based on my view distance
This game rocks so much, but its really, really bad optimized even worse than crysis...hoping for a wonder patch...

EDIT: System is q6600, 8800gt, 3,5gb ram (vista 32)

So does anyone have any performance fixes? Im running on DX9 on medium settings where on Stalker I was fine, on CS theres stuttering and overall an unsmooth experience.

Hmm so do you think I can run it on full DX10 w/ q6600 4 gigs ddr 800 (non dual channel) and a radeon hd3870 512mb? If not maybe I can install vista x64 to use that extra gig of ram haha...
---END QUOTATION---

vista64 or xp64 will use all of you memory. why do you mention non-dual channel? why non dual channel!?

you would have a better chance with different hardware as per my previous post. if you cant change your order you will just have to wait and see.

yeah. my best machine still runs 1Gb. i have a NAS box with 128Mb but thats just a low power microITX toy

im due for a core system upgrade and will probably go with 2 x 2 Gigs of nice quality. i would still recommend 1Gb XP systems (or Win2K even if thats what they are accustomed to!) to people with ordinary needs. ie: email/typewriter

i dont need more even now cause i just queue the encode work.
