Starting Clear Sky - mod suggestions

Greetings,

I finished Clear Sky 2 times so far, however I played the game with Clear Sky Complete mod. This time I don't want to use that mod. The reasons behind this decision is that I played ShoC meanwhile (after playing that with Complete mod as well) with only ZRP, and I was impressed by the original game atmosphere, without improvements.

So, I took steps:

Downloaded Smart Mod Manager, and installed the following:
- Sky Reclamation Project 1.0.1
- AI add CS
- Healing bandages and medkits stop bleeding 1.1
- Pistol ironsights (by krastux)
- Real weapon names
- CS sound overhaul 2.0
- optionally, I'm considering installing Russian audio mod, since I'm not russian, but I do understand / like the language (and I recall the crappy dubbing from CoP).

What I want is to keep the game as vanilla as possible, but adding as many improvements / bugfixes as there are out there.

So is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.

Clear Sky 'Mostly' Vanilla Playthrough

Well, you can always add in weapon skins, even new ones for scopes if you like. Then there's texture packs. These of course don't change anything besides how the game looks, and its performance of course, too. They're just suggestions.

The Absolute series looks nice :

Absolute Nature 1.1 can be found here : http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Absolute_Nature_Texture_Pack_for_CS;113351

Absolute Nature 2 can be found here : http://www.moddb.com/games/stalker-clear-sky/addons/absolute-nature-2-texture-pack-for-cs

Absolute Structures can be found here : http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Absolute_Structures_Texture_Pack_for_CS;113353

And here : http://www.moddb.com/games/stalker-clear-sky/addons/absolute-structures-texture-pack-for-cs

You can try the Sharper textures maybe ( be sure to get the 'fix' file ) here : http://stalker.filefront.com/file/SHARPER_FULL_version_832_textures;94212

There's also a pack ( I quite like this one ) by NMC here : http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Graphics_Pack_Clear_Sky;95317

Skins for Stalkers, weapons and various other things can be found here : http://stalker.filefront.com/files/Stalker/Clear_Sky/Skins;10500

And here : http://gamebanana.com/stalker/skins

These of course only change the way things look and not the game play, so I thought that maybe you would like these. Complete might use a mix of these and textures and some from the developer themselves.

SoS

p.s. - I think Clear Sky Complete uses a version of Sky Reclamation Project ( SRP ) as a base for its bug fixes, not sure what version though.

Thank you guys for taking time and answering to my questions.

Meanwhile, I did some digging myself, and indeed found out that the mods in my list are pretty much the mods people are usually using for keeping the game as vanilla as possible.

On a side note, those nature packs indeed look great, but at the moment I'm not interested in graphics modifications, since I want to see how the game went "live" in the first place.
My term improvements was meant for mods that improve AI, weapon ballistics, and remove as many bugs as possible.

Thanks once again!
Cheers.

SRP is really the only one I would suggest if your interest is in a vanilla playthrough, as all that it does is fix bugs that should have been fixed long before it released.

I DO NOT suggest changing the ballistics, as they are very well balanced in the original game, due ONLY to the presence of mechanics and upgrades. Most non-upgraded guns are useless, but with a few accuracy upgrades, they shoot perfectly fine, and maintain game balance. Ballistics mods make the game far too easy, IMO - getting headshots while firing from the hip is not fun for me, I prefer to have to actually AIM, lol.

PhoenixHeart,

Thank you for your advice. I shall test both options, and see what fits me best, although I wouldn't want to unload 30 bullets in a target at 15m away and hit nothing but air, I wouldn't like at all making upgrades useless.

Cheers.

The only ballistics fix I recommend is removing the bullet limits, so bullets don't disappear mid flight.
Another fix I recommend is an NPC damage fix, so they don't take so many bullets to bring down. The default resistances are ridiculous.

fluffy,

I never heard of those fixes. Could you please give me a link / more info to / about those?

Much appreciated,
Cheers.

The ballistics fix is debatable, some people prefer it, others don't. The only thing it changes is that bullets don't disappear after a set distance. More info here: https://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr2&thm_page=3&thm_id=21780&page=1&sort=ASC&sec_id=22 and download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?l3sw5z16srk51ib
As for the damage fix, here is the needed file: http://www.mediafire.com/?1k1a8cgmb9ht6ix
Place into gamedata/configs/creatures/. Works with an existing game.
I use both these. Combat is so much more enjoyable. No more having to shotgun Renegades to the head 3 times point blank, and I can stay out of Shotgun range and use my trusty 9x18 pistol to kill them.
