First Play through of Clear Sky - need advice

Hi,
I just picked up this game and am trying to get some advice on the first play through. What mods, if any, are good to install for the first run for the best immersion and to some level, performance.

I have a Nvidia GTX670 2GB card running on a slightly overclocked i920. I noticed that if I crank up the settings the frame rate is below what I would call acceptable so some tweak advice would also be appreciated. Thanks!

ps: I did play one of the other Stalker games (the original I think) and I loved it. Looking forward to this one.

From what I understand, sun rays are an absolute resource hog.

Turn that shit off.

Also, lighting is known to be a real hog too. So if that's not a big deal, turn it down.

Otherwise, just turn down things like anti-aliasing and such. Never seems to make a difference to me anyways, just slows down the game.

And with you're graphic card, you should be running a freaking billion frames per second lol....

An oddly (once done loading, maker mentioned fixing this) not-so-much-a-resource-hog and very immersive mod would be TFW (The Faction Wars). However, it changes the the whole plot, so on you're first go, no.

Also, this has increased FPS just as it describes (by 100% so a multiplier of 2) for me:

https://sites.google.com/site/kingo64ssite/Home/optimised-game-shaders/stalker-shaders-max---clear-sky

just follow instructions.

Everything looks just as good, but it runs twice as fast. Note: For some reason, half of the people who try it actually lowers their framerates. so 50% doubles framerate, other 50% lowers...

I'd imagine its dependent on the brand of the GPU. There is a distinct difference in the different brands of GPU's, which might be the reason. Would be interesting to see if this is the case.

I probally don't need to say this but make sure you patch Clear sky to the latest version.

That card should fly.

Assuming that is the case then it should improve his FPS, since it does for me, seeing as we have the same brand (nvidia).

I'm almost sure you already know this, but make sure you card is set on "maximum performances" in the Nvidia control panel. By default, the Nvidia drivers when installed automatically set it on some silly ecologist mode, if you know what I mean.

About mods, I always try to convince people to play the original, unmodded version for a first playthrough. After then, you will get much less confused on what mods actually do ingame, and even less confused if you happen to mod the game yourself.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, appreciate it. Yes, I'd like to keep the plot as intended, but if there are mods that add missions or improve graphics, etc then I'm all for that. Right now sounds like the bugfix mod and the tweaks mentioned above are priority before I begin the quest.

Check out --> http://www.moddb.com/mods/clear-sky-complete
I'd play that rather than the vanilla game.

There is also http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009 for Shoc.

Seems like your computer should run the game just fine. If you have any stuttering try the 'Static Lighting' option, it should help.

If you like to play around with special settings then check out SweetFX.
