They just fall over dead - npcs aren't killed by emissions according to the script, and I think it might be related to the fact their config files sometimes don't update correctly, and they remain on the escort code section which kills them if you get more than 100 meters away. I once took a guide to the stalker camp, and straight back, and Drifter had keel over dead in the 15 seconds it took to travel there and back.

It's not scripted Tejas, I think it's an emmision or mutants that kill them.

On my third visit to Cordon I finally found Hound dead, and the agent missing (replaced by Flesh walking around his camp). Coincidence?

---QUOTATION---

I don't understand why they were scripted to do this. No one else in the Game does.

When I come back from flooding the underground I've sometimes seen a couple of dead Dutiers just inside the Duty HQ gates...

During emissions a Dutier sometimes dies inside the building, ditto for a Loner inside the Agroprom base.

Drifter and Hound

Drifter & Hound died real quick again this time. I don't understand
why they were scripted to do this. No one else in the Game does.
Why can't they be like Tolik & Nimble and just hang around the RV?

In my current game Hound is still alive despite me travelling between several levels (Drifter is dead). Possibly related: I took a slight detour to see Khaletskiy's Secret Agent while escorting Hound back. After that Hound uses the exact same phrases as the agent, maybe he's become the agent's secret clone?

Next time I should try seeing the agent while escorting Drifter too.

Drifter and Hound

One time I had Hound stay alive for a long time hanging out
with his brother Wolf but Drifter usually drops like a rock.

Has anyone ever seen them die, or are you just supposed to come back from another section of the zone to find their bodies laying in the middle of town and not hearing a word about it from anyone there?

I mean, wolf was pretty upset when his little brother was CAPTURED by bandits, and he doesn't even bring it up when he turns up dead for no apparent reason?

IIRC There's something in the script configs that kills them when you get a certain distance away, so you'll never actually see them die. I agree it's kinda dumb though, possibly the devs intended to actually remove them without a trace but killed them instead
---END QUOTATION---

The intention was originally that you fail in escorting them back to the camp if you stray too far away from them. Then they will die. This part of the script is not removed when they arrive in camp, and they die anyway when you leave.

Rescuing Hound is a "bandit killing job" and should be avoided if you wish to befriend the Bandits. The bandits guarding him will sooner or later be killed by mutants, but that will make the job worse, since the mutants will attack Hound from a very short distance the moment you close in on them. I have never managed to kill the mutants before they kill Hound.

That the developers have managed to forget to fix the last memory card through all the patches, is a mystery to us all. I still half believe that it is hidden somewhere...
