There's one thing about Limansk that has continued to drive me nuts -
in the middle of Limansk, a little ways after the merc/monolith shootout -
you come across a plaza littered with dead bodies . . .
my system will slow to a crawl here, and your mini-map will show
12-15 NPCs nearby, but no dots ever pop up on the map . . .
for the life of me, I can't figure out where all these other NPCs are -
the thought crossed my mind that perhaps it's all the dead NPCs
registering, as if they weren't scripted correctly . . . but no other
"dead" NPCs, in either game, do this . . .
When I got to the Fountain Square I found about 17 dead bodies that
I could search and loot all belonging to Freedom & Duty like they had
a big battle. My Mini-Map displays 6 NPCs nearby but as I can go back
and forth the area without arousing their interest, I can only assume
that they are Bandits who I am on friendly terms with. Moving on north
from there they dropped off the radar and I soon approached some more
Clear Sky Members who are trying to cross a small bridge to confront
some Military. Before the Fountain Square I had a few Mercs and some
Monolith who were in the middle of the Bandit/Clear Sky street battle: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2117/fountainsquarenc5.jpg
hmmm . . . I think I'll have to get some screenies, then -
in my current game, no mercs made it out alive, nor did any monolithers - all the CS members have moved forward to the army encampment.
It's strange, as up to that army encampment, Limansk is dead - I was on enemy terms with bandits, so those groups were all dissiminated - but as you get closer to the fountain, the minimap goes off the charts . . . as you head towards the army encampment, it drops back to 0 . . .
I'm sorry - been having issues getting screenies . . . GPUs have been overheating something fierce . . .
anyhow, I'm only showing 6 NPCs on the mini-map right now . . . but no NPCs in the vicinity - to add to that, it can't be any bandits hanging around, I'm enemies with them and have exterminated them all . . . as well, no mercs made it through alive, all Monolithers are dead - CS have moved forward to the army encampment . . .
I had even go into demo_record mode and scouted about, but nothing . . . perhaps it is just a level glitch . . .
Honestly - I was so let down by Limansk . . . the first time I fired up the game, and saw the Limansk area on the PDA map . . . I thought there'd be more room for exploring, as the area was bigger than used for Pripyat . . . but, no, it's just a hallway . . .
and that's really sad, too - I love how the town is laid out, the hill-like roads, the look of the buildings . . . it reminds me of an area I spent a lot of time growing up as a child . . .
Personally I thought there was a lot to explore - obviously not as much ground as Prypiat but Limansk is a smaller town anyway. But at this point in real life you would be legging it to catch-up with Strelok. 'Cos lets face it strelok could probably have made it from the Cordon to the NPP in less than two days just walking it.
---QUOTATION--- in my current game, no mercs made it out alive, nor did any monolithers - all the CS members have moved forward to the army encampment. ---END QUOTATION---
After the first fight with the Bandits, I recall there's a little more fighting (with Military, or Monolith?) before you actually reach the plaza.
After that, when you're on the actual plaza, you should be attacked by Monolith (and urged by CS to continue alone). What happens next may depend on what you do (or on bugs) but it seems new enemies may spawn, both in the cellars and on the roofs.
E.g. I once looted the cellar on the right side of the plaza, and as soon as I got out of it Monolith attacked me from behind. I've also seen Monolith come out of the cellar on the left side (the one with the hidden room). If any of these Monoliths have spawned but not yet walked up on ground level they might show up on the PDA. Maybe they got stuck down there?
Note the doorway and the recessed sliding door and the bent pipe in the doorway. It's as if someone threw that down to stop the door closing. Nice touches but so far of no value or part in the story at all
