Old Good Stalker Mod (OGSM) Discussion

This is for general discussion about OGSM. Anything related to my most recent translation can go in the "OGSM translation" thread.

Here are the main changes in OGSM (taken from their main website), but there is also so much more:

• New and exciting gaming experience: Now fight monsters through the Pripyat Underground to get to the NPP! All cut mutants and mutant parts added back into the game. Once the game is finished you are free to explore the zone and pick up endless quests in freeplay. You may be able to find unique weapons/armors or secret documents telling mysteries of the Zone as well!

• New graphics and visual effects: More than 100 new visuals for NPCs, New PDA, new items, revised in-game interface with numerous options for the HUD, visual effects of critical injuries and the impact of psy-monsters, new icons and elements for the HUD, improved shaders and textures.

• Improved sound: Three variants of dynamic music, NPC's play guitar and harmonica, improved monster sounds, weapons, items, etc...

• Numerous bug fixes and increased stability of the game.

The most recent version of the mod is located in the downloads section (OGSM Eng Translation Ver. 1.0) along with my translation, go to page 2.

Thanks for all the great feedback about my translation and the mod in general. It is a very underrated mod and I hope more people find out about this little gem!!

I haven't played CS for a while but need a break from COP so it will be back to this, I just saw what someone wrote saying about a translation for 1.8. Is that something that has been released then? What is the latest version cause if it is now 1.8 where is there a link and what sort of changes does it have?

I just tried again and got it, before I tried all 4 big blue download signs and they all went to a download for TV vie. Then I tried some mirrors and they went to ilivid but just now I tried the very bottom mirror and I got it, Thanks a lot.

Hi!

I'm trying to like the CS through this mod (1.8 with Liquidbronze translation), and it's rock stable until now. I'm just at the marshes faction war yet, which is the most hated part of all the stalker games by me. ... but the faction war is much more exciting, the bandits attack more agressively, and i could barely live through some situation.
The bandages and medikits are scarce. Great surviving game, much-much better as i remembered the CS gameplay. However it seems, that the faction war stalled, the cs members won't occupy the last 2 major bandit base.

Ya the game is much harder on Master in OGSM I noticed that it does take a little more time than usual for the CS faction to take over the marshes, I am not sure if it is a bug or intended... Overall, the gameplay is much better than vanilla and it will give you a challenge all the way through the game!

Thanks LB for making a translation for this rather excellent mod

ive managed to get to the hospital level and have just had my first crash

which is fantastic considering i have a low end pc running xp and a ati HD 5670 with game gfx at best with some lowered, but i can have dof and sunrays on

very pleased with this

while i think of it, is there a way to get hud mask for this ?

hi again

i think ive ran into another problem

not sure if its meant to be like this or if ive inadvertantly done something,

but i dont seem to be getting anymore blowouts, ive completed main quest and am now in freeplay

in game i have not had a blowout for 3 weeks

any help would be appreciated as always

hmm very odd its all working again now, even hunger wasnt affecting me but its all back again, wondering if it was quest related or summin, but to be honest i havent got a clue

What are/were you doing (in detail) in the time leading up to the crash? Might help point us in the right direction to determine the actual problem.

Nothing special that I remember, I stopped playing when it happened after a fresh load of game & mod for the third time. Each time was at a different phase of the swamp level; no triggers that I noticed, only that the save games corrupted and I had to revert to hard saves, not one but 2 or 3 back and then it would happen again. Perhaps its to do with my system; C/S vanilla was normally buggy and the only other mod I tried was complete which ran fine.

You might have one or more files wrong in the BIN folder. Make sure you are using a fresh install of the game and the required patch for the mod.

Thanks for your suggestion; I actually tried fresh installs but may try again after using a software/registry cleaning tool and make sure everything is removed. Could I use a workable hard save-game or start from scratch? I presume if the bins healthy and this is the problem then it shouldn't crash.

It's a typical corrupt save symptom. Try to reload earlier saves, until you find a good one.

It seems, that something goes wrong in the background, which makes your game corrupted without a notable trigger. For example: when the game destroying a body but not cleaning up the spot associated with the body.
I just had this kind of corruption crash with SOC's OGSE, it was clearly because of a badly processed dead body.

I tried fresh installs with new games as well as working saves but eventually all methods to correct ended up, at differing parts of the swamp level, with the same ctd. How did you solve the body spot issue?
I'm feeling guilty now and I'm sure you all have more important things to do. I will, as I said, use uninstalling software and then clean the registry, do a new C.S. install and if it happens again - cry; and carry on with SGM 2.2.

Don't feel guilty, posting in threads costs nothing.
I reloaded an earlier save, and at the 3-4X playthrough i didn't get this ctd.
I believe i didn't let die an npc character, when i succesfully continued the game. But this can happen with mutants too, especially when an npc/monster dies in an anomaly.

Here's what I'm getting...however, I couldn't read anything in the exe....so I have no idea what I actually installed.... ...I translated the readme's..and they say to just pay attention to the installer...again..


Edit: Third fresh install and it's working. I haven't left the starting point, but at least it's loading up.

Edit 2 : This is also a U.S. Steam Version. So, Thumbs up.

Yeah, I'm an idiot...anyhow, That bug report I posted seems to be the same crash I get from OGSE for SOC. Every once in awhile, and is sometimes followed by corrupted quick saves. So, old news.

Different member had that problem.. I'm still playing through OGSE for SOC, I just wanted to get this mod and get all the kinks out so I can start it up next..I'll let you know if I have any further issues.


I always had issues with CS though...even with the Complete mod in the past...mostly in the garage area with loners refusing the reinforce newly taken areas.

You can merge them if you know how. Absolute nature and structures go straight on top no problem but I imagine adding Atmosfear will be a chore with plenty of manual merging needed.

Hey if you do it, Make it into a merge patch for everyone to use. there'd be a lot of grateful people if you did.

You can merge atmosfear, but as david said, it will require some manual editing. I have done it, but was getting some odd white flashes in the sky, so assumed it was not compatible in some way (but I may have missed something).

No game breaking crashes after merging atmosfear with OGSM.

Sorry I am not sure about specific weird/buggy faction war AI behaviors, besides your typical x-ray AI hiccups (i.e. NPC's just standing there and pointing their gun etc, but that happens in all the games).

The only issue I have noticed is that sometimes it takes longer for the CS AI to take back the marshes, in order for you to advance to Cordon. If that happens, I would just sleep a couple times and that seemed to knock everything back.

Problem

Oh dear... I seem to have run into a major problem. I am currently doing following the story line and am at the part in the Garbage where you have to follow fang. You then proceed into a cellar located next to the flea market, however when I enter the basement the explosion goes off but nothing happens. The two bandits don't show up and now the story has stopped indefinitely until I get some help for this bug/glitch.

Anyone know what I am talking about? Help me plz since I can't continue the story, and thus join factions etc. :\

Frustrated...

Yes, I have loaded a saved game where I entered the Cordon for the first time and I speed ran/played all the way through to that part again, and the same thing happended...which is nothing. Nothing happended. The explosion goes off but there is no cut scene, no fading away to reveal the two badnids that rob me. The only option that I have left is to uninstaal the mod, reinstall, and start a new game. That will be a drag, not to mention if the same thing would happen again...

If I remember correctly wasn't this one of two problems I had with a much earlier version of the mod? Both of which made me have to wait for the next update and restart.

Is this the latest version your using? What parts are you using, have you added any tweaks like no starting vids when you load the game on your pc.

Also I don't know what else to do. I downloaded said mod, and then installed without choosing anything except the default options in the Russian installation. Basically I just said next, next, next and it installed.

Ok, installed new links, fixes etc...still not working.

Ok, screw this shit. I have installed both the "ogsm_1.8_fix.zip" as well as "OGSM_Eng_Translation_Ver._1.6_for_1.8_CE_0.7z" and I still get the same problem/ glitch.

SO now its time for a new strategy. I am going to delete OGSM, re-install OGSM 1.8 "Community Edition" , copy the OGSM 1.8 fix into the gamedata, as well as the Eng_translation version, and do a speed run through to where I have to meet fang and where I am stuck now. So basically I have to start a new game. I will post in a couple of hours to tell you guys if I have the same problem again or if all goes to plan. Well there goes all my plans for today. Better get started shall I...

Ok, new game solved everything.

OK, after 4 hours of game-play after starting a new game, I have finally reached the same spot and it worked. The glitch is gone. Thanks to everyone that helped me. Now all I need is a fix for the 'invisible, invincible bloodsuckers!!' Dam bloodsuckers, why are you invulnerable to any damage while cloaked???!!! Who's stupid idea was that? (GSC...)

Now to get back to the Zone!

I then went through with the assignment of giving ammo to the Freedom squad (which is supposed to be dead if I remember correctly). The problem is, the Freedom squad is still alive. I don't want to kill them or do anything else until I know what is going on. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

I know this is not a fix but but why not try killing them, you've got a save obviously so just kill them. It probally won't work but you never know it might get you passed the problem. I had an issue with these people a few versions back but it then got fixed in the next version. I have not played through with this 1.8 community version yet, I presume that's what your using.

I think I will try that, as I'm becoming really desperate to go forward in this game, it's so fun. And yes, I am using the 1.8 community version.

Yes I do. I started a new game and got the same problem, this time at the mission getting the PDA from the digger corpses, there is no PDA.

Hardwar mod (OGSM 1.8ce addon?)

LB, Have you looked at this at all, Or has anyone. And what's it like? Does it just tweak difficulty and will it work with the OGSM 1.8ce translation if added properly or has it a load of new dialog.

Any info you or anyone knows would be great cheers.

Just started this very interesting mod, hoping to finally get through Clear Sky (most mods don't do for me...either too abandoned or freeplay or something else). Curious, when do Blowouts actually start (not the scripted ones)? Also, what about NPCs looting other NPCs?

EDIT: Checked the change log, and no looting? No looting at all?

Also, I'm pretty sure that when I installed I selected random Blowouts, but they were disabled in the script...and changing the option to 1 in ogsm_options.script doesn't appear to be save-game compatible. I get attached to my saves, I don't start dozens of times over...my obsessive compulsiveness doesn't help, and restarting time and again won't feel right, I like getting into things. Otherwise, it feels rushed and I will not enjoy myself at all.

EDIT 2: Still no surge. Even did a reinstall of the mod using the options as translated by Liquid Bronze at the top of page 3 of the download thread (just to doublecheck, since I followed those instructions in the first place anyway). 'Surge_type = 2' is apparently random emissions, but still nothing at all while in the Swamps. Or is it only after a certain point in time emissions spawn? Or maybe the player has to be awake for an emission to start, so sleeping for hours and hours to advance an emission is pointless?

And as for looting, is it the AI of the Clear Sky squads that mucks up any attempts at looting, so while they are fighting the Renegades at the start, they won't loot other NPCs?

Does this mod feature looting or not? And what about the distinct lack of Blowouts despite my selecting as appropriate in the installer? Simple questions...

When random Blowouts, which are meant to happen, do not...it leaves me to believe the mod isn't too stable (Clear Sky itself is causing some issues, most likely), and I wonder what might go wrong next.

EDIT: Absolutely no support for this mod anymore then...uninstall it I shall.

Went all they way to NPP

I have played this mod all the way thru to the NPP. The only problem that I have encountered is that at the end I'm supposed to kill Stralok with the Gauess rifle that I don't have. In vanilla the guy in the NPP gives you both the gauess rifle and the FN2000 before you try to chase down and kill stralok, in the mod he does not give you either. Is that the way it's sapposed to be?

P.S. I have not encountered any looting, other than the Bandits at the Barrier.

Weird

I seam to be getting some weird bugs such as flickering shadows and blocks of green in the Clear Sky Base which i assume is a developer texture that isn't hidden properly like the trigger texture for source also the messages or alerts seam to be for a 4:3 resolution not my 16:10 and i can see the polygons on the boars for god knows what reason.

Here are the main changes in OGSM (taken from their main website), but there is also so much more:

Hey, i've been playing this mod and I really enjoy it, but is there a way to make the enemy less bullet spongey? Some of the mutants take about 3 full magdumps with an AK to kill even on Master and its a little annoying to watch a single boar massacre entire squads.

EDIT: Nevermind, found some info on the MISERY forums. If you want to edit enemy damages, find the health_hit_part line in each .ltx (eg: m_stalker.ltx) file inside gamedata/config/creatures and change it up or down depending on whether you want them stronger or weaker (Up = Weaker, Down = Stronger).
 
Each word should be at least 3 characters long.
