Yeah, I've been trying to get it to work with Visual Studio since I already have it and I'm having a hard time understanding the instructions he gave to compile (doesn't translate well from Russian and I can't find the edition of Borland he's talking about).
Any help or knowledge in compiling the source would be appreciated.

So far I've only made a couple of minor changes just as a test so once it's compiled I can check I did it correctly. One of the easiest ways to test is to make a change to the bitmap used as the loading screen for the game which is in the xr_engine folder. Then you'll see right away if it works without having to start a new game.

I also added the ability for different reload sounds when reloading full vs. empty but I'd rather wait and share that AFTER I can get the source to compile for me.

Just a note to anyone: I contacted Don Reba and asked him to contact GSC so we can know for sure if we can openly post and share code, etc. and get their unofficial blessing to use it.
Apparently some people in the SOC community got GSC's unofficial blessing to use the source code, and I think it's safe to assume the same is true for this game as well.
The Call of Pripyat source is coming soon as well but I'd rather not reveal the source or exactly what he said here.

What I'm getting at is that I don't think anyone will get in trouble for posting code or sharing tips on it as Don Reba can always come back and delete the posts later if GSC ends up telling him it's not okay.

I really hope the community gets behind using the source since Clear Sky is a somewhat broken game with all sorts of crashes, bugs, and a broken faction war system. A good programmer or team of them could probably fix all this.

Update: Got it compiling just fine. The only issue is that it turns out to be the 1.5.0.7 source code at the repo I got this version from, and DX10 won't work for some reason.

I added the following:
*Added different sounds for reloading a weapon with a partial mag vs. an empty mag.
To use add "snd_reload_empty" to any weapon ltx you want.
*Added possibility of anm_reload_empty to automatic weapons.
*Added bloodmarks (not working) and actor shadow (looks great) on DX9 renderer

I'm a little hesitant to post it here since I haven't heard back from Don Reba, but I don't think I'll get in trouble for giving it out since it's already leaked everywhere anyway.

If you want it contact me on ModDB. My username is jketiynu.

Also, if you use it PLEASE do two things:
1) Share your work. Let's be a community and keep things open source.
2) If you redistribute it make sure you credit the following: Nick Galko, K.D., jketiynu.

If anyone here knows C++ and wants to work on a project in a team of people please also contact me on ModDB (note that the email in my profile isn't used anymore).
I have some very specific ideas about the engine in terms of gameplay and also rendering technology that is all quite possible but I don't have the knowledge necessary to do it myself.

I might establish a community Repo and link it here if a few days go by without my post being taken down.

How does the faction war relate to the compiled code? Isn't it just Lua scripts (which are not compiled)?

Wow, this is great news! Too bad about the version (1.5.0.7) though. I don't know what to do with it though, since I have no experience with C languages.

However, this gives me hope of being able to restart The Faction War project.

If anyone playing around with the source code is willing to hear out what my problem is, I'd be very grateful.

Here goes nothing...

Has there been any news regarding the source code for Clear Sky 1.5.0.10 (or whatever the newest version was)?

If so, does anyone know where I can get it?

IIRC, its a specific version of C++ that Xray is built with. Stalkerstein is simply referring to the age of the code.*

* I may be mistaken. Don't quote me on this

I see... Alright... Well, I was actually asking whether the source code for CS was released in the most up-to-date version.
