My take at the game start (kinda fast walkthrough)

If you have never played CS, in partifular first 3 levels - there could be some light spoilers, although I was carefull to avoid them any way I can, or make them undefined enough for a new player not to get spoiled at the start!

EDIT: This post will soon get locked for editting, and I won't be able to add new text to this post.. so you'll have to read the rest of the posts in this thread to get new info and clarifications, sorry! It's the time limit of the forum, nothing I can do

Here, I will give my take on how to start a game so you have a real easy game really early in game.

One tip - use manual saves often, and quicksaves in between. Saving every 10 minutes is a good practise, and before / after doing jobs and tasks is even better.

Now the guide..
- start at CS base
- do the first mission, and make sure you KILL ALL boars and GET TO THE TOP of the tower as soon as you can (if you get mission failed/canceled for "get on the tower" than reload! YOU NEED THAT DONE TO GET ONE OF THE FLASH DRIVES!! Your very first flash drive indeed, and you'll need it for later part of this "walkthrough"!)
- do the missions for CS untill you secure all the points except the North and North-East points which will always spawn Renegades
- make sure that you were there when Southern Farmstead was taken so you get CS3a suite
- use CS3a suite from now on, but don't bother upgrading it, save money!
- make sure to loot everything you can find, every body, every stash
- take quest from mechanic for flash drives, you'll need all 3 of them but I won't tell you where they are.. but you'll have at least one already from the "Tower" task from the start.. if you don't have it already - restart the game ;P
- do all the side quests as they'll earn you money and respect of the faction
- don't forget you need to buy stash info to get some of the flash drives!
- sell all weapons except 1 PMm to CS trader (when you get PB1s keep that one, and sell PMm)
- save one Viper, you'll need it shortly, but don't use it for Renegades or mutants (use PB1s for Renegades and knife for mutants, save ammo!) and don't upgrade it as it's not needed at all!
- sell all food and drinks to barman
- on the first night kill all Renegades and you'll have whole night of peace to collect stashes, do side quests, and to collect Veles from the Cave
- with Veles collect all 8 artifacts, would be great if you do it the same night
- do ammo runs but do not do 5.45mm runs, save those (and get the scope that you'll find in the level as well, you'll use that one and 5.45 ammo later!)
- sell antirads, bandages and medkits to any stalker except traders, as ordinary stalkers pay 3-4x more for these things!
- when you have enough money, sell CS3a suite and buy CS1 suite and start upgrading it for bulletproofing/nightvision/artifact slots
- don't do many attack/defend jobs, as you'll get peanuts, instead when CS1 suite is fine (lacking 3-4 upgrades) go to Cordon
- as soon as you appear in Cordon run to the rock-tree & far from MG gunner; if you catch him unprepared he will barely get few bullets in you and CS1 suite should help with those
- go over the street, and than to military base
- use Viper for first 5-8 kills
- take the first AC96/2 during the battle and use scope and the ammo from Swamps to make it easier
- kill them all except MG gunner (should be 20 guys) and loot everything (don't forget their own stash, has some free ammo in it)
- make sure you pick out AC96/2 which has best condition, and put scope on it, and use that one from now on (don't use silencer even if you have it!)
- stash everything somewhere out of their base, and kill the MG guy
- wait in their base, 5 guys will come soon (best to wait in the MG tower)
- kill kill kill.. after each 5 guys take their stuff and carry it out of the base to a stash, and than go back for 5 more guys, and rinse and repeat untill you get borred.. 50 guys should be a good start
- when you kill like A LOT of those guys start taking it all to Swamps to CS trader; if you're lucky you'll get to use Loner Guide to do it faster.. (or see bottom of this post for an even easier solution, bit a bit cheatish)
- in Swamps you can easily sell it all for good $$$, and do ammo runs since you have a lot of 5.45mm ammo and grenades
- you should have LOTS of money now so..
- upgrade your CS1 suite completely, and upgrade your AC96/2 for precision (MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW UPGRADE PATHS CORRECTLY!!)
- go back to Cordon through tunnel, and make sure you are better prepared this time as Gunner will be waiting this time
- do Sidorovich's main quest
- as soon as you get main storyline quest pointer in Garbage head there (you CAN do side quests in Cordon and/or look for artifacts if you wish, but this is the fastest way probably if you want your gear ASAP)
- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MORE THAN 78.000 RU before leaving Cordon!! Will need it for SEVA!
- when you appear in Garbage make a SAVE just in case (although you do have autosave anyway)
- go to the right of the bus, and keep running to the right; you won't be able to go exactly to the right as "invisible wall" is there, but you'll get it
- if you did it right Bandit patrol will just say "shoot him" but won't shoot and won't become red
- now go to Depot (bandit base) and when you're at the entrance or near trader SAVE again
- go straight to trader and ask him for Trade
- hopefully he will have SEVA, and you'll have a lot of money - BUY it! It costs some 28.125RU, even if it says 18k, so be prepared.. If he doesn't have it, try reloading last save few times. He will have to offer it eventually (I was even 1 bar under neutral, and he did, so there is no reason not to get it!) ***EDIT: see bottom of the post for more detailed info on this!! BUT IT WORKS!***
- take the quest for flash drives from mechanic
- upgrade anything on SEVA that's available BUT ON THE ENVIROMENTAL PATH - DON'T UPGRADE BULLETPROOF, YOU HAVE CS1 FOR THAT!!; Hopefully you'll have enough money (you need 78.125 RU, without the cost of the last upgrade, since you won't be able to get it at this time in the game); oh and DO NOT MIX UPGRADE PATHS!
- go out of their base and do a bit of the storyline quests and side quests, buying info and so on so you get all 3 flash drives (I won't tell you where they are but you'll get them eventualy) - just make sure you save before exiting levels and before doing any jobs (main story or side quests) so you don't get robbed for your money
- there is one point in main-story(!!) where you can't get away from getting robbed, and you need to do it to get the last upgrade for SEVA, so make sure you spend your money wisely before doing that quest and stash all your stuff somewhere, including FOOD which you can sell later on for good $$$! You were warned! So keep saving a lot!
- as soon as you have returned all 3 drives (so no more losing money because of stupid mugging scenes) get the money for upgrading rest of the suite; you'll get some for returning upgrades, and if you were stashing weapons AND FOOD you looted you'll have enough for upgrading SEVA completely
- while we're at this, Bandit's trader offers GREAT money for food/drinks, same as Cold (CS barman!) meaning 100RUfor vodka and cans (for example!)
- make sure your SEVA is upgraded completely, double check if you have to
- now you can go back all the way to Swamps, and start playing the game more or less normaly, and you can pick your own friends and foes without bothering about weapons or suites or anything (meaning - you can kill Bandits now if you want )

When you're done with this walkthrough you will have:
- fully upgraded AC96/2 with scope and full precision - the best gun around the place, offering great firepower, and use of the ammo which can be found anywhere at all!
- a lot of 5.45 ammo for this gun (both normal and armor piercing ones); and since this kind of ammo is everywhere in the Zone you'll have easy time getting it from corpses throughout the whole game
- PB1s for fun and saving ammo when enemies are lousy like Bandits/Renegades/mutants
- knife, for saving even more money
- fully upgraded bulletproof CS1 suite for gunfights and mutants (but also with 3 artifact slots, so it can be used in more than one occasion)
- fully upgraded SEVA for enviromental troubles, but with 5 artifact slots and some good artifacts it can survive even the most of the gunfights as well
- a lot of money probably
- and everyone on the map still friendly/neutral so you can choose your future path any way you want

If you want anything else at this point, just make some money and buy & upgrade anything else you think you need. But trust me, you'll never need anything except these things here.. Not even for Limansk or Hospital, or any other level or occasion. From now on you just have to collect some good artifacts (weight, endurance, antirad, antibleed and heal) and that's it.

If anyone thinks I should add something else, pls tell me while I can still edit this post
I hope this helps to newbs without being a spoiler, and that it will make a game fun for those making a second (or fifth ) run through the game

Btw, if you want to do this 10x faster, just use any weight mod (one is on my page in the sig) so you don't have to do 30 runs from Cordon to Swamps when you kill military (or while clearing Swamps), as you can just collect it all in your backpack, and have a much much faster game. This is optional, and if you feel it's cheating than don't do it. Just don't get borred lugging stuff around in that case

****EDIT Nov 27th ~8PM****MORE DETAILED INFO ABOUT SEVA****
Guys, I just went from Cordon to Garbage once more (again, this is "first time" for the game).

I didn't have luck keeping entrance patrol neutral (cos there were two patrols) but I just ran away. I was still on dead-zero with Bandit relations (neither up or down, right in the middle, like you start the game). This was at exactly 16:18 on the 3rd game day!

When I was in the Depot, just before the hangar gates, I've saved the game. Talking to Tooth (trader) showed he has Berill suite, so this was fine already.. This means that if you finish main story in Cordon Bandit trader will also have more things to sell (same as Sidorovich and Loner's trader in Neutral base, both in Cordon). After 5-6 reloads of that quicksave I got SEVA, as before.

I had bit over 53k RU when I bought it, and it cost me a bit over 28k to buy the SEVA, so I had 26k left.

I went over to the mechanic, and I've upgraded whole tier 1 (enviromental upgrade tree). 1st tier and artifact slots are 5k each, 2nd tier is 7.5k RU, and I don't have upgrade flash drives for one tier 2, and last one (tier 3) so I can't see the price of tier 3 upgrade. (edit: last one costs 12.500RU, thanks to Kane4!)
But I've sold my CS1 suite (just to test it out), and I got everything upgraded except those 2 upgrades which I don't have. This was at 17:38 game-time, so just 1h20m after I got into Garbage for the first time! Yup, 17:38, September 13th, 2011
One stash info I'll get soon from the .. you know where and than I have everything except those things for which I have to follow the rest of main story.

I spent total of 42.500 RU for upgrades, and 28.125 RU for buying it, and I still lack one upgrade costing 7.500 RU and last one which costs 12.500RU (but you can only do it after "the robbing scene", so price doesn't matter at the moment). So total of money that you need to have the moment when you exit Cordon is 78.125 RU.. And after that save anything you loot in stashes (don't sell!) untill you're done with the "mugging task" of main story, than sell it all, and finish upgrading..

And yes, this means that before the end of the third day you can have:
- fully upgraded CS1 suite (bulletproof)
- fully upgraded scoped AC96/2 (precision)
- almost fully upgraded SEVA (enviromental) - lacking only last upgrade

Now if that ain't fast, I don't know what is

screenshots are here as well, if you guys want, I'll post them...

Tier 3 costs 12.5Gs. Nice walkthrough LuxZg, especially on how to get the Bandit's SEVA!

My take at the game start (kinda fast walkthrough)

Lux~

You should emphasize that getting to the top of the Tower
for the Blowout is needed for getting the 1st Flash Drive.

Nice write up but does all this require the Weight Mod right away?

I guess I enjoy the Marshes so much at first I am in no hurry to leave.

@Kane4 - Thanks for the info, adding to the OP right now

Tomorrow I'll go get me a SEVA with my "real" save, and than I'll try to earn those 20k more RU (actualy just 10k, as I have some weapons stashed wich are worth 10k at least), go to Garbage like I did today just for test, and upgrade SEVA completely as soon as possible..

It's real good to know that you don't have to keep Bandits as friend for too long just to do this And having these 3 things (CS1+SEVA+AC96) fully upgraded so early in game makes you a formidable enemy for anyone that wants to mess with you..

EDIT: @TS - no need to have a weight mod at all, if you have time to do it all more slowly. But I don't know how much time it takes than.. But certainly not way too much more.. Maybe 5 game-days in total? I'm thinking that I could have done all this faster if I knew the strategy from the start, so making it 2x slower because of no weight mod, it's still <5 days probably. For an expirienced player ofcourse, which knows where are all the artifacts, stashes and so on..
And I did write the "tower" part, but didn't want to reveal too much, so I've left it a bit "under cover" But ok, since you've busted the cover, I'll add it

EDIT2: Editted opening post to add info from Kane and TS, and also to rewrite few sentences to make them a bit clearer. Also added info that Bandit trader offers good price for food/drinks (same as CS barmen in Swamps). Umm.. and added, rewrote & explained few more bits and pieces, which are less important, but still usefull..

killing all the mutants before the blowout gets you the reward and the flash drive. I've only been up the tower once. So maybe its either of the two - kill the mutants, get up the tower.

Umm... I'd have to check that than.. But seeing as you've got 2 flash drives for capturing Depot and one for capturing Duty base, I'm not sure what mod you're playing (or which drugs you use ) Joooooookiiiiiiiinggg! I'll add to the guide that you have to KILL mutants AND climb tower

You don't need to enter Cordon at the entrance near the MG nest-
just make a few steps in the tunnel, wait until the script of Sidorovich talking to you is activated, and then go back to the Swamps. After that is possible to go to Cordon through the other entrance behind the Renegades base on the North East of the map. Some renegades are on the path to the exit, but you can choose the ever looping mission to attack and defend the control point near the truck with the help of CS faction, and then sneak past the base with fewer Renegades remaining easier.

I got 1st upgrade for just going up tower, choosing to loot body on ground, pick up ammo, and not killing the boars at all, saving ammo for later.
Try and get 1st artifact for radiation +2 before you run for boars/tower. The boars/tower will wait for you to find it, and not start till you get to the corner near them. Upgrade suit for one slot, and it makes it all easier.
Everytime you take a place in swamps and guide arrives, I return to base, sell guns/food, etc, keep health/bandages, so I keep viper/suit repaired and modded bit at a time. Using guide to go back and then running as you are light, means you catch up with squads and are there in time to take next place. I got 2nd upgrade halfway through, CS3/money after machine yard (main base) taken, and more money for Southern entrance to Cordon. The game tries to make it fast paced, but taking time to go back inbetween has led to no failed missions, only one cancelled as they got there first.
