CS keeps freezing, has worked before.

Hi!

I just installed CS again (GOG version), i've played it maybe a year ago just fine with the same rig as i am using now (my mouse is the only thing that has changed) and it worked fine then. Now the game keeps freezing at me. The freezes are very random, the game just stops, audio stops, no black screen or change to desktop, just freeze. I can get out of the freeze by ctrl+alt+del and then closing the game from task manager.

I am using the CS Complete mod (which i used back when i played the game just fine). When i last played it successfully i had most of the settings maxed (sunrays and such set to low) and tried to play it with the same settings. Nothing on my computer has changed, same parts as before (except my mouse). I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed too (which is something that i think could be the culprit).

I've tried to set new things in Nvidia drivers off (DSR for example), i've tried closing Razer Synapse (because this is a new mouse), i've tried some tips at copying dx10 files from Windows folder to CS folders, i don't have the infamous bad Windows update installed and so on. I suspected temperatures too, my GPU maxes at 74 Celsius and the CPU temps are very low when playing CS and i think under 80 Celsius is very normal for this GPU.

There are couple of things that i think might work but haven't tried, but i wanted to ask other people if you have had these freezes. I haven't installed Windows a new yet, i've run memory tests and disk checks for bad sectors, nothing. So only thing that comes to my mind right now is that maybe my Windows installation is corrupted.

If someone has some idea or have experienced these freezes, please tell if you have an solution or some idea.

My rig :
CPU : AMD FX-8350
GPU : Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti OC
Motherboard : MSI 990FXA-GD65
Memory : 8gb DDR3 SDRAM
OS : Windows 7 64-bit
Harddrive : Kingston SSD

Ups, forgot to mention that sometimes the game has freezed up when i try to exit to windows without closing the currently ongoing game first and i think it froze once when i tried to quit the ongoing game aswell.

Whether it is the problem or not I would cool the cpu better, 74 Celsius is still high. Maybe clean the dust out of the computer just for giggles.

My cpu temp is around 40c with a 4790k running at 4.3 when playing BF4.

Nvidia drivers have been a mess for quite some time now. I would recommend you, if necessary, try the 355.98 release.

Try different graphics settings in CS. Try using DirectX9.
You should check your sound card drivers too.

Did you install a fresh copy of CS before installing the mod?

Try deleting the infamous windows update that has been causing problems for stalker games when using dx 11 or 10.

It should be among other installed updates, it goes like this KB2670838.

My GPU (graphics card) temps max out at 74C, processor doesn't go much over 50C. But i tried running the game without DX10 and it works, i sort of suspected this, but the question still remains that i have played the game for a long time before with full DX10 on, so i wonder why it doesn't work with it now. I don't have the infamous Windows update, i've checked (that was probably the first thing i ran in to when googling about freezes/lock-ups with Clear Sky). I just would like to play the game with full graphics like before, yeah, the DX9 still looks nice and all and actually with DX9 saving and loading games feels for some reason faster

Sorry for my semi-late response here, yeah Clear Sky has never played nice (or should I say Xray?) with the DX10/DX10.1 settings. It's much safer to play without...

I do too, I still tend to have lags and problems from it, and it isn't unheard of to have them either, Sorry, that's what I meant.
