Vanilla Clear Sky for hardcore stalkers

Here's a challenge for those that think the vanilla game is too easy. All of it has been posted before (otherwise it might have been a nice Liquidator test?), but I thought I'd condense it into a single more readable post. A less coherent version can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/6zaq6rh

1. When you're given the first mission outside the Clear Sky base, ignore instructions. Instead, run to the Fishing Hamlet and take cover from the emission there. This takes some practice, but is possible.

2. Once the emission is over the guides will not take you back into the Clear Sky base. Instead you are free to explore the Swamps. To find artifacts, a Veles detector can of course be found in Doc's Cave below the train wreck in the north-east corner, but I'm not sure if the leather jacket can protect you from all anomalies.

3. To leave the Swamps, you must first enter the Twilight Zone. This can be done by by pressing yourself against the east side of the fence leading up the slippery slope to the railroad just east of Doc's Cave. Once in the Twilight Zone, walk clock-wise around the Swamps level (while avoiding the level North and North-East level changers, since they'll just send you back into the Swamps if you get too close) until you can approach the Souther Farmstead from the East. From there, hidden level changers can send you to other levels. Be sure to make frequent named saves during this tedious part, since it's easy to get stuck in invisible corridors without noticing until it's too late.

4. Once outside the Swamps level you are free to explore most of the Zone and get better equipment. The main missions and many side missions won't work, but some do. To travel between normally inaccessible levels, use the Twilight Zone in the North of Yantar to approach the Yantar/Red Forest level changer from the other side of the fence, and walk towards the hidden level changers outside the office building entrance. There used to be a map of these hidden level changers on the web, perhaps it can still be found by searching this forum.

5. When you're done exploring the Zone, return to the Swamps Twilight Zone, walk clock-wise around the whole level until you approach the Clear Sky base from the West. In one place it's possible to climb over the fence and enter the base.

6. Tell Lebedev that you're finally willing to help Clear Sky with the Renegades, and you should get back into the normal storyline.

Cool! Do you have a link?

Wouldn't call it a speedrun though, it's a,long way around the Swamps level...

Well it's a pretty good speedrun for a Stalker game like though.

I think he somehow broke the emmision sequence, maybe by getting out of radius of mission. That could be the reason he wasn't teleported to CS base.

Had to try the Pump Station too. That's actually even harder, I haven't managed to survive both the Renegades and the emission yet.

No, you get an emission at the Pump Station as well, and unless you find cover you get teleported back to the Clear Sky base as usual (if the Renegades don't kill you first). It's when you do manage to get under cover that you "break" the game. Apparently GSC never counted on players being this good.

"Sniper on the Hill". The work of Mr. Noonan. One of the best
Liquidators I have ever known. If only my long games of Clear
Sky had been more stable I could have done so much more with it.

No.

All are optional. Though I use real weapon names and my own "Canon friendly faction armaments mod"

* Basically, factions are more balanced and use canon weapons from SoC and CoP lore too.

For example in SoC we see rare Duty soldiers with IL 85 assault rifles.

We know very well that the zone is a harsh place and that some of the Faction's equipment is scavenged from other people. Ergo we can also conclude that rarely Duty soldiers may field ZM LR 300's.

Freedom Veteran units seem to be ex-speznaz. And they too fight Duty. So it is very reasonable to assume that rarely they will field Abakans or Vals.

The two factions must be about equal in armament and strenght. Not "Rofl DUTY stomp all" .

Same logic (bar the last line) is applied to bandits and loners.

Also, making part of the guards of the Cordon outpost be soldiers, not Speznaz.

Tejas, you can just fix bugs with SRP gamedata folder, everything else is optional, in "optional folder" where you can see what you like and set it up to your own liking.

Otherwise just drop in gamedata and enjoy bug-free Clear Sky(will get more updated soon).

Despite all the changes I hate in the 1.5.10 Patch compared to earlier
versions, the one thing that would tempt me to try the SRP would be a
longer Game. Sadly no one here has bothered to do that or tell me so.

You're entirely missing the point. Trying would not be easier and faster
that us replying to each other here. I don't mean simply installing the
SRP, I'm talking about a Game that would be several weeks or month
in real time to get to the point to see the changes that I'm talking about.

*rereads the thread*

SRP makes completely unlocked faction wars wilder, less buggy and more unpredictable. IF that is what you want, it is in SRP.

But it does have to unlock first. Like flooding the underground.

Then Duty will in a matter of a few in game hours mobilize and start the assault full force.

The "Shoot at stuff without killing them and screaming for an attack order" is a vanilla bug. Has been in the game since 1.5.0 . I know I remember it on release
Just go to the next smart point on the map and they auto-attack.

SRP ... I never had it. Those issues.

Not crashing = Forget 1.5.08 and 1.5.10. SRP only will help... a lot even. But 100%? I cant say.

So yeah.

What do you think of my mini-mod I am wanting to add as an addon to SRP in the future? (rebalance one).

Based on your description it sounds like the SRP restored the Faction
Wars to what they were before the crappy 1.5.10 patched changed them.

In all the earlier versions, the Faction Wars commenced as soon as you
got out of flooding the underground and was full scale with a lot of action.
In the 1.5.10, they partially started before you did that when you got to
the Agroprom level. That sucked because you were still in the middle of
doing things there and the split timing made the Faction Wars less action.

I'm not sure what you mean. Did my description of 1.5.8 and earlier
OR my description of 1.5.10 not seem similar to the SRP experience?

changes to the Faction Wars as I did in order to reverse the 1.5.10 changes.

Going back on topic, here's a word of warning. This time the guide in the Clear Sky base doesn't work for some reason. The dialog looks normal, but after I click the final OK nothing more happens.

Yes. I'll quote myself from the other thread http://tinyurl.com/6zaq6rh for future reference:

---QUOTATION---
Didn't work. Loaded an earlier save, killed the Renegades at Southern Farmstead, entered the TZ and entered the CS base. Nimble confirmed that the Swamps were won, but the guide still didn't take me out of the base.

Note that he doesn't refuse in the dialog, it's just that nothing happens, so I suspect I've broken something.
