Playing The Game, v2.

Hey guys,

After (pretty much) eons of absence, here I am, yet again, braving a new Clear Sky adventure.

SHORT INTRO & MODS
------------------------------------

1. My play time is pretty limited, but I will try to post here updates as regular as I can.
2. This play-through I plan on siding with the Bandits. Whatever may come from that, I shall see.
3. Mods: SRP v1.0.4 ( again, a BIG Thank You, Decane!! ) with the options: Alternative Ballistics and Sleeping Bag. Let me tell you: now, I have to be extra-careful with enemies shooting at me! No more an enemy unloads a full magazine and hits me twice! I got head-shot four times, while trying to take the tower near Fishing Hamlet.


SWAMP
------------------------------------

Started as usual, picked all intro quests, etc. Captured the Swamp.
Then moved on to clearing camps for loot, and anomalies for artifacts.

I'm on my way to my 5th day in the Zone, and this is what happened:

** Renegades recaptured Machine Yard twice! Wow, I've never seen this happening before! I am very curious: if I don't intervene, will they start recapturing their former positions as well (anyone had a case like this before?)? Great job, I'd say! Shows they can stand for themselves, and not hand in the bases like in other play-throughs.
Edit: Funny thing: I went back to CS base, but Lebedev doesn't seem to be bothered with losing Machine Yard, and CS teams are not moving in.
Edit 1: A single CS member defended Machine Yard against two teams from Renegades. Wow!

** I STILL can't grab the artifact in the anomaly near Machine Yard. It spawned only one this time and I thrown in that spot god knows how many grenades so far - Argh!

** For some really odd reason, it would seem Clear Sky already have an Expert on their side - in Exo-skeleton nonetheless!

** While roaming around, I noticed that the animal life near water begins its activity at 22:00. After this time, all frogs, insects, birds and whatever else seems to come to life.

You should refrain from killing Renegades too, then. That way the Renegades will become neutral or friendly once you've joined the Bandits: http://tinyurl.com/6y5qhf8

At least in the latest vanilla patch I think they are more aggressive in the beginning, but later they seem to give up (don't know why).

Can't remember seeing that in vanilla, maybe it's the SRP mod?

Check that no mutants are blocking their way. Sometimes they still get stuck through.

War system still has some minor issues, getting stuck or forever in alert mode.

Experts are seen in vanilla too, if you increase your factions resources they sport better equipment, like in your situtation Exos in CS faction.

I'm aware of this issue. Before releasing v1.0.4, I did some diagnostics in an attempt to determine the reason for NPCs getting stuck like that. I discovered that it affects only online NPCs and that it is a symptom of the relevant NPCs' AI scheme being nil. Unfortunately, I don't know what causes this to happen, so no fix is likely to be forthcoming any time soon.

I. My initial plan was to stay in the Swamps until I get Experienced Rank (I killed 200+ enemies, but still Rookie), or maybe even more after that. However, there are few factors that forced me to move to Cordon (and I noticed some interesting things regarding CS after that):

* After CS lost a battle at the truck near Machine Yard, the base was left with only one CS squad. No other squads moved in to reinforce the position.
* Renegades started to spawn like crazy and constantly attacked Machine Yard to reclaim it. This had a few consequences:
- CS lost Machine Yard;
- No other CS teams came to reclaim it;
* After a while, I decided to re-capture Machine Yard:
- I got the fight alright;
- The quest on PDA got stuck at "Hold the point until the help arrives";

- killing Renegades near the truck to keep Machine yard intact:

Now I know squads in CS don't move if there's some something blocking the path (mutants, enemy squads keeping a position), but I swear I scoured every "nook and cranny" along all the paths leading to Machine Yard, all the way to Village Ruins, Southern Farmstead and Fishing Hamlet.
I only found one boar near the small bridge leading to Burning Farmstead.

If you guys could help me with this, I can happily provide a saved game.

II. The actual concern about this whole situation, is not the fact that CS won't move to reclaim Machine Yard, and that the quest gets stuck at "Hold this point...", but the fact that the game won't let me move to Cordon, since the quest gets cancelled upon CS losing Machine Yard!

CORDON (SWAMP rant)
------------------------------------

I. Regretfully, I, therefore, moved to Cordon.
But when I did this, something interesting has happened: all squad positions and faction war in the Swamp reset! At least according to my PDA (since I am yet to return to Swamp).
- more CS squads moved in other points they held;
- 3 CS squads move to what it seems in the defense of Machine Yard while Renegades attack it!!

I know it should behave differently, since I get expelled from CS once I hit Cordon, but how I wish they wouldn't get so stuck while I am actually in the Swamp with no plans of leaving it - Arrghh!!

II. Ran to Sidorovich (apparently I managed to get hit by the machine gunner only once) and had a little chat with him.
Then:

- saved the stalker as Wolf asked me to, and got the coordinates for the flash drive;
- observed a bit Military and monsters locations on the PDA and how they move;
- saved Stalkers from the Military attack on the way to the railway Bridge;

III. Got to Stalkers' base, but did not talk to Valerian.
Instead, got my reward from trader, got the quests from technician, and did the quest with "Lucky Detector".

I don't plan on moving on with the main quest. I just want to roam a bit Cordon, and also want to go back to the Swamps and check fire anomaly near Machine Yard - maybe it reset!!

I assume you haven't entered Cordon yet at this point? If you have, there shouldn't be any problems going back and forth between Cordon and Swamps through the level changers (the CS guides in Swamps won't help anymore though, IIRC).

But if you haven't entered Cordon yet (and can't go there) I don't understand this part:

Sometimes squads movements and new spawns get unstuck by loading another level, sometimes reloading a save on the same level may help too, or maybe just waiting (due to some time delay in spawning?). Killing NPCs may help too, if your reputation allows it. I personally use trial and error with this.

You can find all my saves in the location bellow. When loading the saves, please choose the one named "swamp". It's on Master difficulty (I don't know if this matters, to be frank).

You will notice:
- you are near Machine Yard;
- Renegades are attacking it and you should just about to receive help call;
- if the CS member left alive wins the battle, please wait for the next Renegade squad to re-spawn - should be almost instantly;
- recapture Machine Yard and then you'll get "Hold the point...";

- you can also notice the CS squad stuck near Fishing Hamlet
- and you can find the two members of a CS squad (leaderless) near Old church, towards Southern farmstead - who are stuck;

- also, I have a small favor to ask, if it's not too much trouble: could you check the anomaly near Machine Yard? maybe there's a way to grab that artifact that I am not aware of?

- MODS: SRP 1.0.4. / Real Weapon Names / Alternative Ballistics / Sleeping Bag + No Intro Movies.
They are installed in the correct order, as you recommend in Readme file.

I moved to Cordon after loading a previous save where CS had Machine Yard, and thus it allowed me to move by the means of the quest: "Go to Cordon with guide", which I can't do when Renegades are holding Machine Yard.
I said "regretfully" because I wanted to stay a while longer in swamps, but constant attacks from Renegades and taking over Machine Yard breaks my game (I think) because quest to go to Cordon is cancelled (CS does not attempt to re-capture Machine Yard).

Kojocel, I tested your savegame. The two CS squad members who are stuck between the Old Church and Southern Farmstead actually do have a squad leader - it is the guide at the Southern Farmstead. If you kill him, one of the two stuck NPCs becomes the new squad leader and they continue to advance normally, permitting the faction war to continue. I don't know why those two NPCs don't try to make their way to the Farmstead.

Wow, I didn't expect that!

I will kill the guide at Southern Farmstead, no problem. However I need to ask for an advice on how to do it without the rest of the CS members getting hostile.

Just one-shot kill him with a round to the head. Doesn't matter if you are visible to nearby NPCs when you do it because there is no concept of 'seeing you do it' in the game - CS goodwill toward you will be affected just the same way whether you are hidden or in plain sight (same goes for sound).

A one-shot kill is always preferred over multiple woundings because every separate wounding decrements goodwill quite aggressively - you are always best off one-shotting a non-hostile if you need to kill him. If you do headshot the guide, Clear Sky's attitude to you shouldn't change much at all - the guide's pals will turn neutral toward you, but the rest of CS will remain friendly. A new guide will promptly take his place.

It's regrettable that you ran into a bug that requires such a desperate measure. I wish I knew why those two guys aren't moving to regroup with their leader - usually squad NPCs in CS try to regroup if they wander off too far from the rest of their squad.

It's OK. He deserved it for ruining his whole faction war!


SWAMP
--------------------------------

Finally I am leaving the Swamps. I hit Experienced, gathered some artifacts (regretfully not from anomaly near Machine Yard), some ammo. Upgraded gear, got "Bring me..." quests from almost all CS squads - just enough to hit friendly again once I come back to the Swamps.

A few things to mention before moving on:

1. Decane, the two guys are still stuck on their way between Old church and Southern farmstead. I assume the newest SF guide is their leader, so maybe this is worth investigating.

2. When I entereted the game last time, I heard a shotgun shot, and then saw this:

3. Saw another CS guy in Exo with Franchi in his hands.

5. Decane, following your advice with killing NPCs to figure out why they got stuck, I did some shooting in respect to the team which is still stuck near Fishing hamlet.
It appears that the guys in combat at the hamlet and the guys from the team which is in far SW corner of the samps are related, since killing one or another, makes the teams hostile.

6. A second CS team moved in to Machine Yard. I can take the quest to capture Encampemnt near the truck, but once we capture it, the team does not move from the spot, and it seems this prevent Renegards from re-spawning at their base.

Kojocel, YouTube celebrity Gopher recently ran into the same bug as you - the one where the faction war could come to a halt if the leader of a squad going to the Machine Yard assumes the role of the guide at the Southern Farmstead. The issue is now fixed; see the SRP download thread.
 
Each word should be at least 3 characters long.
