For any readers not familiar with the Zone's "Twilight Zone": it's what we call the areas in a level that are normally inaccessible to the player. There are ways to reach them though. Clear Sky's Twilight Zones also contain invisible level changers that let you move between levels in unintended ways. All this gives you a third way to leave the Swamps, if you think the Cordon machine gunner is not enough of a challenge.
Ex modder, Zones only ferret and will someday release a game (Resident)

The machine gun is actually a mounted turret with the PKM visual, and not a proper PKM, and effectively has unlimited ammo. It will fire at you while you are in a predefined area, and while there is an enemy alive in the base IIRC.
DrifterTheGunfighter if you escaped from the machine gunner, go to left side of the military base where the fences and an empty stash in here (northeast section) Go ahead and you'll see few concrete pieces at the ground and little anomaly there. So you can jump from the pieces and see alnernate entry of the base. I always start to attack militaries from there. Only 1 enemy roaming around the building there. But careful to him. He maybe come from the right side and see you. I always stab knife to him and start the attack to them. You can take down a lot of militaries at back side. For example sleeping militaries inside the base. But watch out the grenades. You can't spot the further enemy grenades easy. So don't stand steady anywhere. You need to remember their laughing grenade speeches. Also i usually use Fora-12 pistol to them at Master difficulty. It's hard but that's much enjoyful to me.
Here is the screenshot from there when i prepare to stab knife to him
The PKM can fire 100 rounds before needing to be reloaded.
It can be upgraded to hold 200 rounds for the Player. All of
the weapons in the Game have to be reloaded by the NPCs.
There would be no reason for GSC to remove this from the PKM.
Otherwise it's fire would be continuous which it is not under any
situation you can recreate using various paths and types of cover.
Wait there until the PKM empties it's magazine. Once it goes silent and is in the act of reloading
Does it really reload? This game never ceases to amaze, if true. I've always assumed the machine gun goes silent because it loses sight of Scar. ---END QUOTATION---
Exactly, they don't reload. Once I stood behind the tree, and it fired at least 100 rounds while I peeked and hid behind rocks. When he went silent, at same second, I ran again and he kept on firing, because I went from cover instantly when he went silent , so no time to reload actually.
He has unlimited rounds I'd say...
But runinng from cover to cover helps and zig zag too, never got hit by more than 3 bullets , sometimes not even 1.
