Dx10-effects yet no smoke

The title says it all. Since I'm replaying Clear Sky at the moment I watched the Dx10-trailer and seeing the Volumetric Smoke, I thought that I had never noticed that. Now that have done the Duty-Undergound-mission, I have walked through an area, which very clearly resembles the one from the trailer. Yet there is no smoke, not just not volumetric, none at all. On the other hand, the other Dx10-effects work just fine. Wet surfaces, volumetric light etc. Does anybody know how this can be?!? I thought thse all were dependent on Dx10.

(My GPU is a GT240M)

Me neither actually. Must check again with DX10.1.

Not sure if this is the trailer video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5RMxO5DsPA but I think there's too much smoke in it, looks like a sandstorm. This one actually looks more natural to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYHcV4o_Z88 (even though the video uploader seems disappointed).

Just in case: have you enabled volumetric smoke in the advanced settings, and restarted the game? See http://www.tweakguides.com/ClearSky_6.html

Could there be a difference between Nvidia and ATI cards?

Now I've checked...

In Agroprom Underground I only see smoke in the same two places as in the above video (but it looks more like steam, really).

I don't get any smoke at all from the fan shafts (like in the first video), maybe they changed that for the released game (as usual). Now that I looked closer, I think the smoke patterns look nicer in the first video after all, even though the amount of smoke is perhaps too large.

My video card is GeForce GTX 660.

Yep, Volumetric Smoke has been enabled for a while. And as mentioned I also have a Nvidia-card. GeForce GT240M.

Just like you I also thought that it might simply have not been implemented in the actual game in the end, but I also saw the exact same gameplay-video on youtube and it's obviously in there... So I will have to check again. I will then edit this post. Maybe I just didn't explore the underground enough.

I recall the OP was using a mod. Do you get any smoke in vanilla?

I see the smoke only in Agroprom or other areas with scripted smoke.

ATI Video cards perform poorly in Clear Sky. When I first played it
I had barbed wire fencing that would not appear and netting on some
structures that were invisible when they should not have been. Due to
the poor performance of ATI, when I got CoP, I went back to using Nvidia.

I have an ATI card. The 5770.
No problems with any STALKER game ever. Ran all of them at maximum settings (except DX10.1 A-tested AA) and 1680x1050.

Charcharo~

Keep in mind I'm talking about my experience 7 years ago
when both Clear Sky and my video card came out in 2008.
