Cordon Stalkers vs Military fight question (vanilla)

Hi,

I'm playing Clear Sky through at the moment. I'm in the Cordon and I've just spoken to the Sidorovich for the first time. When I leave there's a firefight at the bus stop which gives me a mission to defend some Stalkers (against the military), but these stalkers are weedy, the miltary aren't, and my guns ain't great, and while I can survive the fight and just about kill the military, I can't manage keep the Stalkers alive.

The bad thing is that if all the stalkers die I'm losing rep with them and all the loner stalker groups in the cordon are turning hostile which means I have to wipe out either the stalkers in the tunnel or the bridge, and also means I don't get any backup in the next mission (in fact instead of having stalkers on my side, I'm having to fight both stalkers and military).

Seems very harsh that by fighting to help the stalkers but having them die through them being so weedy, you lose rep. You can't just go around/ignore this fight either.

Just want to check this is all working as intended?

You only loose rep by killing friendlies. During the fight you must be hitting one or two and killing them.
An upgraded Viper 5 (MP5) for accuracy is usually enough to deal with the soldiers. Also running to the fight helps to keep them alive as well.

You need to attack the militaries first until the loners come. You can use broken windows against them. Try to shoot from the windows inside so militaries can't get you easily from there. And don't forget to take enemies weapons to your inventory and unload them. Sometimes militaries weapons have armor piercing featured ammos when you unloaded them. AKM 74/2 (not AKM 74/2U) is my favorite weapon that the militaries used. AC/96 also very well too. In Clear Sky AC/96 has less little accuracy than the AKM 74/2 but has a great power.

If you use AKM 74/2 with the armor piercing ammos, you can fight against the militaries easily. And watch out the militaries who throw the grenades to your loner group. Kill them first.

Sounds a bit unusual. Besides accidentally shooting stalkers, it might be caused by going too close to the guards at the railroad bridge and tunnel before Sid put in a word for you (not sure). It could also be a bug.

In any case I recall talking to Sid about it can fix your reputation again (for a fee).

First time loners can't let you pass the other side of tunnel at the railroad bridge side. If he passed from there and escaped, loners maybe turned enemy. I don't think anyone can pass and escape from there succesfull. (Sprint is useless too) I did't remember well but 4 or 5 loners standed at the end of the tunnel

fishfish~

The game prompts you to talk to Sid when you first arrive in the Cordon.
Actually that's the last thing you should do since that action makes the
entire level change with the movement of NPCs and mutants and kicks
into gear many events. Go explore the level first. See people and find
artifacts. Visit the soldiers at the car park ( new ones will respawn for
action later ) but avoid killing Bandits and getting involved in fights
between the Factions listed on your PDA. After you have explored
the whole level and seen everything then go talk to Sid and by this
time you should have the supplies and be ready for future events.

Just don't go pass the bridge without talking to Sidorovich. Sprinting to the Stalker vs Military event and coming from back, so you are now behind military, and shoot them fast as possible, headshots. Will save you ammo, health and armor. Also more stalkers will live, since military is occupied with loners, so you coming from back(from that farm where they're dug in) will help

I've gone all the way to the Cordon exit to Garbage ( most northern one )
without talking to Sid yet. It's not that hard to explore the whole level
like I was saying to find artifacts & see all before everything changes.

Since usually I am armed with a Abakan and CS-1 Heavy armor and some decent artifacts/ lots of ammo I usually just tank the military and overpower them.
