It is obvious that we've been misjudging the bandits all along. They're not murderous criminals who'll stab anyone in the back - they're all 'Robin Hood' types, taking only from the rich and giving to the poor.

Though the one handing out billions must be Bill Gates on his day off.

I've noticed that this can be done over and over again anywhere you lose all yer cash. If you stay a Merc and don't kill bandits then the bandits will usually rob you (instead of attacking you) when you leave/enter the Garbage to/from the Cordon. Of course you can also do it when you go to meet Fang and instead Bandits rob you (a one time event).

What a crappy way of getting your hands on cash. Freaking exploit / bug. This should be fixed ASAP.

No offence, but only some miserable small minds can enjoy this, really.

Well that's one opinion. What I wonder is why are bugs like this and so many other were not found in QC and beta testing? How can these wonderful games be so damn buggy? I could name at least six bugs that I've experienced alone. I've added the patches, and only done what the game has let me do - this type of glitch is not unusual in many new games (if it happens once or twice). In STALKER series (so far), odd things can happen at any time. Like what happened to me with the bandit leaders in the depot - that should have never happened. Luckily for me, I'm beginning to see when odd things happen, to load the last save or your progress in the game is f***ed. In SoC I was forced to kill a major character because he was hostile to me. I eventually replayed that part. Replaying a part because you want to (to find an alternate result) is one thing, bugs are quite another.

I'm not the type of gamer who looks for weakness to exploit, like this poster may have been. But when they happen to you on a regular basis, you really have to wonder about the play testing. I'm addicted to this series, and I love games that use real world guns and weapons, and not fantasy guns that shoot ridiculous amounts of energy beams, or pulses from a tiny mag or crystal. I like the reality of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. weapons. I just wish they had some better quality control before released to the public. No offense to GSC intended. Just a helpful criticism.

Hmmm. And maybe one in every thousand Ferraris delivered to the showrooms lacks an engine or gearbox or other essential component.

But its kinda doubtful.

Had Stalker games not had the added value of bugs, CTDs and other cock-ups I doubt there would be such a thriving modding community. A huge amount of the community's efforts have gone into bug-fixes.

Perhaps there is a smart psychologist at GSC and the whole 'unfinished' appearance was intentional in order to bring together that community.

From perusing the many mods produced by the community GSC can sample the raw talent out here. I'm sure they have their 'headhunters'.

Valve did something similar.

It is a fair critique.

With all due respect (and I do mean that!), surely you aren't comparing a Ferrari automobile to the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? I love this game too, but it was released (at least twice), it would seem, before it was properly game tested. You have to admit there are some odd and quirky bugs in this series. They are all over the place. I don't remember 'Half Life' having this degree of miscues. I never patched the original HL and played all the way to the end. And if we are making the comparison to Ferrari to STALKER, then the price should have been much higher and performance, logically, higher as well.

I got the first game, STALKER: SoC for about $7.50 during a Xmas sale. I wondered why so cheap? I also got Cryostasis, Alpha Prime and Chrome, for less. Cryostasis was had such a high frame rate I found it to be unplayable. Chrome was okay, but has a look and feel of Unreal II, which is pretty old now. Alpha Prime looks good, but has trouble running on anything higher than XP, which is also getting old. I understand why they were on sale. Same goes for STALKER, the difference is, IMHO, Stalker is actually a *very good game - if you can get past the dozens of odd and quirky bugs*. This game is certainly worth the price I paid for it - and more so with the patches and mods. It's not yet up to the quality control of some of its competitors. Is it better than the CoD series? I guess that's a matter of opinion.

I know you guys are huge fans of the game. I am too. But constructive criticism might actually help the series get better. If you think I'm being too critical because you are modders, then you may have lost touch with the average gamer who just plays games for gaming. Google 'game reviews of STALKER' and read what a lot of people had to say. I'm really a defender of this series. I'm also hoping that the potential bugs in future STALKER games might be critically limited to an acceptable few with friendly criticism.

I am not sure about the logic that without a buggy game people wouldn't have made all the mods. There are tons of other game with mods that weren't made to fix problems, but to add something new or desired to the game. I'm glad that mods are being made! I'm not sure that a series will ever be considered great, as Half Life is, when it requires so much work just to get the game to play without bugs. I think it is certainly a fair critique. (By the way, I like Stalker better than Half Life - but that might be because it is new to me, HL is long overdue for another entry in the series).

I think it is certainly a fair critique. If the game had cost me 50 bucks, I'd have thrown it out and never bought another STALKER game again. I'm glad I hung in with it. It's not a Ferrari. Perhaps it is a BMW with an engine that only runs five days a week, but those five days are awesome.

This is why I waited 2+ years to buy CS. I was on these boards when it was released and read about all the problems. I refused to buy it at that time. GSC could have made $50 off me, but only made $9.99 a month ago. The game in its current state is 1000 times better than it was at release and I'm glad I waited.

After I finished CS, I intend to get CoP. Right now, I'm in a Stalker "zone" and I just can't get enough.

jmb, I hear ya. I have to admit, this is the most addictive game I've played in a very long time.

Does anyone else think of this as a combination shooter and role playing? You don't get level increases or advancement points, but with all the items, parts and upgrades, it has an rpg feel to it. I like. I wonder if it might be even better if you could add level advancements and skill points to assign. What do you think?
