Sure. Remember, I managed to skip the first (e)mission and escape the Clear Sky lunatics in the Swamp. As a consequence I don't have any main missions (yet), and people like Sidorovich and most faction leaders have locked their doors. Wolf doesn't even have any dialog.
A funny thing about guides: most of them can't take me anywhere, but a few do (Duty and Stalker ones in Red Forest, the one in the Freedom base, and perhaps one or two in Army Warehouses). But they all only want to take me to the Flea Market for some reason.
BTW, at Flea Market Wild Napr gave me a side-quest to pick up a PDA at the digger site (where a snork attacks you), but I get no dialog option to return it (perhaps it has something to do with the digger bodies not being in place yet?). Can't remember doing this Wild Napr quest for a long time --does it go away after a while in a normal game? Usually Wild Napr starts begging for money when I talk with him.
That's probably why my Loners aren't successful in Garbage. I allow
all the Bandits to survive and operate the Concentration Camp. They
actually don't harm anyone there and are a good source of supplies.
Freedom and Duty show no interest in changing anything there too.
Now that I know it's possible to skip the first mission it's really hard not to it in every single new game.
One nice consequence of being a renegade from Clear Sky is that you can roam the Swamps as they looked before Clear Sky started driving away the Renegades. I'm currently tip-toeing around with my very inadequate leather suit, trying to find whatever loot is available.
Artifact hunting seems very difficult, either the anomalies are too dangerous or there are Renegade camps too close. I don't want to shoot any Renegades, instead I sneak close to their camps undetected and try to steal scraps from them.
A few stashes have been activated from looting dead NPCs, but I'm not sure how to get more without killing someone. Mutants seem to stay away from both Clear Sky and Renegades so far, so no casualties that way either.
At first I escaped from the Swamps through the Twilight Zone, as usual in this kind of game, but that makes the rest of the playing too easy due to all the powerful equipment you can find in especially Agroprom. So I decided to go back to my save right after the emission and stay in the Swamps as long as possible.
In the Swamps you often encounter single Boars that spawn in the bushes right next to you. It seems those Boars are not as limited to a certain area as other mutant groups, instead they can run over larger distances. Perhaps you could even chase one of these into a Renegade camp to get some action?
If all else fails maybe I could kill some Clear Sky members, but it would feel a little out of character.
