Defensive Task Alteration Mod

What this mod does:

This mod tries to prevent spamming of 'defend the point' tasks to
the player, if there is no chance that the player can reach the point on time.

Stalker: Clear Sky generates a 'defend' task if the following conditions are met
(simplified a bit):

* An enemy squad (human or mutant) is going to attack a smart_terrain held by a friendly squad;
* Squads are part of the online alife;
* The defending squad isn't already occupied (i.e. under attack already);
* An initial attack preparation time has elapsed;
* The attackers are stronger than the defenders (i.e. more squad members. better equip etc.)

The mod adds two following checks:

* Is the actor (player) in the same level as the smart_terrain under attack
* Is the actor (player) within 100m of the attack point. This is definable - change
TASK_DISTANCE = 100 * 100 at the top of the file with another value (e.g. 50 * 50) for 50m.

What this mod DOESN'T do:

* It doesn't affect already generated tasks.
* It doesn't stop tasks that are given being cancelled somewhat arbitrarily by the game.
* If you've already engaged the attackers at long range, the chances are your fellow stalkers are
alert and looking for trouble - so no task will be generated. They must be caught unaware for the
call for help to be sent.

* Its only been tested using the lookout tower, gravel pit and old church locations in the marsh - but the sim_combat.script file is used at all points in the game.

To install:

* Drop in your gamedata folder.
* Ensure your fsgame.ltx file is set up for mods.

Change the line in fsgame file from:
$game_data$ = false| true| $fs_root$| gamedata

to:
$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata

* If you are using other sim_combat.script fixes you will need to merge files using WinMerge or an equivalent.

To uninstall:

* remove 'sim_combat.script' from your 'gamedata\scripts' folder

Ack, Old thread coming back to haunt me.

Be warned that I'm already aware that this mod doesn't fully fix the problem - there is another location in the script files (think it was in 'sim_squad_generic.script' - but its been a while) that also needs changing in a similar fashion to the sim_combat.script.

Possibly if it is what I'm thinking of - though at the moment I'm snowed under with other things - i.e. stuff that pays the bills. :\

Ack (again)

I'll come clean here, I did accidentally incorporate a revised version of the Defensive Tasks mod in the Faction Commander messages mod I posted previously. Unfortunately Faction Commander makes the problem of task spamming (giving tasks then canceling them straight away) on offensive tasks worse. Again I was in the process of going through the code and adding level, faction and distance checks in wherever I found tasks being allocated,

I think I've still got the revised version (Defensive Tasks v0.2) for vanilla knocking around on a machine somewhere. I'll check - though it dates back to CS version 1.5.07, and may need revision for 1.5.10 if the various sim_x.script files changed.

Quick edit: I've found the revised version, made some changes and merged with vanilla 1.5.10 - going to try some quick testing. Will be quick though, this is eating in Arkham Asylum playing time.

New version for vanilla Clear Sky 1.5.10.

This version should alter the assignment of 'help' tasks arising from mutant attacks on player faction squads (and factions to which the player is friendly) so that they only occur when the player is within a certain radius (default 50m) of the point under attack.

It still includes the original changes to enemy counterattack tasks.
