Variant on healing (Bandages)

What about if you can only use one bandage at a time and it heals hps over time instead of all at once.. like, for example, 1/hp every 30 minutes to a max of 20 hp! That way instead of bandages just being healing potions they're a little more realistic!
I know in the game I have loads of them and can go through about 10-12 in a really long and tough fight!
This also coupled with a sleeping option could make it interesting! Especially if you set it up that you heal double the hp if you use it while sleeping! You can still have the healing potions, like an injected chemical! But they’d be more advance, more expensive and only come later!

What do you think?

I agree about the bandages, although I don't like the idea of healing potions - I'd much rather see syringes of epinephrine instead.

Having said that, I think more varied/realistic healing is pretty much impossible to achieve and what is there now is okay considering the alternatives.

Yea I agree epinephrine or even stimpack (god bless you Fallout! ) are a good alternative! I didn't actually mean "healing potions" though.. just that they serve the same function, so I called them healing potions for simplicity sake!

I dislike this idea; the bandages as is seem proper to me. They only heal a tiny bit & are most effect when you're bleeding.... which is what bandages actually do.

Now the medic packs could be flushed out in some manner to make them less of an instant heal... there shouldn't be any instant heal items at all actually. However it'd still have to be something you can use while in combat. Maybe a system like Metal Gear Solid 3 where you have to use certain components from it to heal certain things. Of course the wounding system would have to get a little more complex. But things like Pain Killers, adrenaline, splints, eye patches, clotting agents etc. each with their own ups & downs. Like adrenaline would make you bleed faster as it gets your heart rate up but helps you deal with radiation & such short term or something & eye patches make it harder to see on the side of the screen from which ever eye is covered (eye wounds making the entire screen a little out of focus).

However since such a system is unlikely to say the least I like the medic packs as is except there should be no quick toggle buttons & you should have to open your inventory to heal.

The healing system in Stalker annoys me too. All you need to do is spam the bandage / medkit buttons...

I like the change which takes out the shortcut key, but once you're used to going to the inventory, it's still too quick.

I'd like to see a way to make using a bandage take some time, a few seconds - during which you are crouched, and can't move / fire / pick things up etc. and they should only really stop bleeding.

Medkits should be the same, but take much longer.

It'd also be good to see 'medic' stalkers - those who make a living helaing others, or maybe Duty members?

Artifcats sort of do this already, so its a good idea from that point of view. an idea close to this one, might be a synthetic product called Dermagraft-TC. its a sort of super bandage or synthetic skin.

Why the hell do u wanna use only 1 bandage at a time ?

It doesnt make it more realistic since u can get hurt in more than one place in ur body at a time.

besides, the main purpose of a bandage is to make u stop bleeding, not heal u (and it it does heal u a bit, it's probably cos when someone (in real life) puts one, he feels better.

so instead of trying to find brilliant realistic ideas, get some cover while u fight because 12 bandages for a fight is huge! (yea even a tough one)
i dunno about u, but if i were in a fight i'd avoid takin damage, i wont be like "oh they can shoot me, its cool... i'll just use some bandages.."
dont forget to find the best position on the battlefield, and that u have button Q and E.

........I cant imagine myself sleeping in the zone dude.. with so many monsters, enemies, moving anomalies.. i mean..NO....you are a guy who forgot everything about his past life, who gave himself a quest. You are supposed to make use of every second. how can u sleep with so much pressure ? u just wanna get out of this world of sh*t !
you character sleeps when ur not playin the game, ok ?
(all this bullshit i'v been giving is to say no, personally i dont wanna sleep)

Because in reality you'd die if you didn't sleep.

I agree with this idea. Bandages should not provide any hit points at all. Instead they should stop the bleeding and loss of the hit points. A bandage should be required for each bleeding, totally separate from any med kits used to regain hit points. Food should also come into play more. I only use food as crap to sell to random NPC's that I cant sell my other loot to.
