Why stealthing is BROKEN
Sometimes, when you take aim at a group of people sitting near a fire, they won't react even tho' one of their friends just got a bullet right through their brain and dropped to the ground. Whaaaat?! Damn they must be deaf and blind...
On the contrary!! Sometimes, the npc's can see through walls, or otherwise detect you from completely unrealistic points of view. Well, maybe they have infra-red sight?? What do I know..
I'll tell you what I know. Despite the two ''stealth'' function bars, this game simply doesn't make stealth work appropiatly, at least not for me. If theres something the developers should look into, it's definently the AI and whatever concerns these stealth issues... |

---QUOTATION--- You know what's an even bigger issue? When trying to sneak, you are discovered. Then you try to load a savegame where you are not yet detected, but your target(s) will act as if they have seen you! Even though at that point they have not yet done so! Now THAT is a bug.... ---END QUOTATION---
That's resolved in patch 1.0003. |

No it's not. I have 1.0003 and this issue still occurs. ---END QUOTATION---
Maybe it takes effect only on a new game then. I reinstalled and restarted for the new patch. |

Light and sound stealth is truly best done on the pc by splinter cell.
Camo is best done by far cry.
*sigh* This engine and the developers have the ability to give us both in stalker.
One improvement to this effect which you describe could simply be adding the AI attribute of sight called recognition.
Example Different AI have different fields of vision and line of sight ranges. This could then be modified by "recognition". Amount of light, noise level, interposing objects, physical condition, and weather all effect recongition. The higher the experience level the better the recognition. It is raining at night in a sparse forrest and there are hungry and tired novice privates & sargents at an outpost then as expect to pratically walk up to them within 10 m unnoticed and unheard.
Especially if you moving slowly, not bleeding, being chased or dont do something stupid like reload or turn on a light.
On the other hand in a field during broad daylight and wearing orange should make you the 1 moving target for air assualt gunships, snipers, packs of mutants, and even the crows!
So I agree stealthing needs some work.
/shrug
I am looking for an empty, perhaps even a full, but have you seen one?

---QUOTATION--- infra-red ---END QUOTATION--- XRays would be more appropriate, as infrared has trouble passing through even something as weak as glass.
... But in any case, the NPCs probably heard you moving through the bushes, because each time you pass through them your sound bar takes a huge hit.
And FYI the 'light' bar isn't an actual light bar, it's a bar which indicates to what degree an NPC has detected you. You can skirt past an NPC and have the bar raise only slightly, and avoid detection, but if you allow the bar to fill completely, you will be seen and the NPC will react.
... Then a Controller comes by and *POP*, s'plodes your brain inwards!

Stealth is only average in this game. You dont really have a choice to go all out stealthy or anything. By no means can you beat the game with the knife. It could use some pep, I agree. After finding out that stealth is pretty borked, I ditched my silenced pistol very early in the game. Then I really gave up and junked any silenced rifles I had in favor os something that would raise a huge noise and score me tons of solid headshots. |
