Beta Testing...

Just curious, how are you going to do the beta testing?
Internal or external, or a mix?

My thoughts:
Do mostly Internal beta testing to prevent serious leaks, but give people a dumbed down version of the game for external testing.

Don't give us the main story line in the beta, and beta testers must submit reports and findings each week, otherwise, they loose their testing privilages.

Set an expiration for the betas and ensure that the information is duplicated many times, to prevent cracking.

Update the betas, so that beta testers can see if fixed bugs created new ones, and see how well the fix works.

The advantages to such external esting, is that your game will be put through its paces on a variaty of systems, ranging from P3 and GF2, all the way to ATI 9800 and GF FX, with the ltest CPUs.

Beta testing is both a job, and a privilage. The beta testers will be given a wonderful engine to play around with, and they will also be required to test he engine and try to screw it up as much as they can.

ROFL

Nice try !

Sorry but it sounds somehow ridiculous. If i would be Dev. and reading that i would just laugh.

I think they know how to do beta testing if they choose to do so.

Reality check : You are the kid and they are the professionals.

No, I have had experience with how well beta testing works. I have more experiance than you seem to think. I have gone to state programming compatitions, and I am in an advanced programming group. The way we find bugs is hrough alpha and beta tesing. Tester TRY to crash the program in any way that they can, and then suggest possible fixes. Testers and coders must be in close comunication, and it generally leads to a better product.

Why are you being so hostile. I wasn't telling them to do any thing.

Note that I ASKED if they were going to do a public beta.

Stop trying to prove your imagined superiority. Get. Over. Yourself.

wise guys, eh? Those wise guys, being us, most of us ARE game developers or work with gaming in some way, and not just playing them. I'm sure the dev's have a plan for a beta, or lack thereof, but making suggestions never hurts.

I, for one, am sick of all the kiddies in here trying to act smart and tell those of us with real experience in the field of game development to shut up. It doesn't bode well for your intelligence, telling a programmer or a modeller all about how they know nothing about game developing. Good show.
