I have never tried ogse...thanks for the advice

I consider it the best mod. I haven't played them all, though.
It needed some tweaking to be closer to my liking but now it's a big, atmospheric funland with just enough of everything you'd need. The translation is also not too bad from what I've seen yet.

And the best thing: Hours and hours of playing without a single crash! (ok, ok, one single freeze but that's it!)
The worst thing about it: I can't seem to increase the grass render distance without the game having constant crashes. Low grass render distance is rather ugly to look at, imho.

Thanks, are there some graphic addons? Someone tried oblivion lost remake 2.5?

There's something named Argus textures, which you can chose when installing but I just installed it with the high quality weapons and slapped the AA2 eye candy on top of it. It looks fantastic and works just fine.

I'd like to ask a little different question because "the best mod" is highly subjective for everyone. I'm going to replay ShoC after a couple of years and I'm wondering what is the most current mod (or set of mods) that adds additional fear, darkness, loneliness and scarcity to the vanilla one? I don't care about shiny textures or hundreds of weapons (although I wouldn't mind an additional Mosin or SKS). I tried AMK+Autumn Aurora and it looks very nice but isn't much different from vanilla in the areas I'm interested in.

Autumn Aurora 2 might be what you're looking for. You've played AMK with just it's textures. The gameplay of AA2 is mostly what makes it amazing.

Yes this is my favourite mod and now I can only play with Autumn aurora texture. I'm playng fotograf with autumn aurora but if I don't delete d3d9.dll file it crashes: http://www.moddb.com/groups/stalker-100-rads-bar/images/fotograf-weapons-mod-for-shoc

I agree with this. Autumn Aurora 2 is brilliant. The upgrades textures, models, sounds etc. makes for easily the best ShoC overhaul-mod out there. If the OP wants a new campaign, then OGSE 0963 should be at the top of the list. The "official" English version is still not available, but hopefully within a few months.
With all respect to the guy who made AA2 (fantastic work with highly artistic taste), I find Secret Trails 2 to be very frustrating mod. Even though the AA2 treatment makes ST2 look very inviting, the boring and unbalanced quests, poor gameplay choices, bugs (like vanishing player marker, which turns "find this and that" missions into a complete headache) makes ST2 a frustrating experience. I gave up after getting into Pripyat, at that point I couldn't care less. Walking through Dead City in the beginning with the updated graphics was magical, though.
