Upgrading items

I think it would be better gameplay if upgrading system got removed.

My argument for this conclusion(I'm excluding balance issues for upgrading system not being completed):
->there is no reason(except for running out of ammo) to use most of picked up weapons found in game while already wielding an superior upgraded weapon. Upgrading allows you to adjust any gun you desire according to your needs, however having reasons to use different guns creates more diverse and more interesting gameplay experience. I'm on my third playthrough and I'm getting bored of still running with same akm despite it's one of my favourite weapons in game. I wish game gave me opportunities to use different guns it offers. I could as well see it as waste of resources if players can play while ignoring most of guns in game except for selling them.

I don't really understand your "problem", as you don't have to upgrade any weapons if you don't want. Personally I like the upgrades, and it would be a shame to remove them IMO

If you don't want to keep using the same weapon(s), then pick something else and use it instead lol. For example, I don't use a sniper rifle (upgraded or not) if I'm going into an underground area; so I take something better in close-quarters.

Also, even in the later levels enemies still use basic weapons found at the start like the AK-74su and double-barrel shotguns. I sure as hell don't want to be in the sh*t with one of those when mutants/Monolith are hunting me down. I'll take my upgraded LR300 w/ extended mag and high fire rate any day

No one force you to upgrade your weapons. Stop whining and play the game instead.

It sounds like in your opinion LA is a sandbox title rather than survival horror game. I see no other reason why would someone even consider not using options game provides for greatly improving his survival chances. What you're suggesting is akin to playing chess while pretending that some pieces doesn't exist. Don't make sense to me.

I only use what enhances my experience and never enjoy the latter stages as much as the start where I have to struggle for everything. If I can manage without I do but I also appreciate different levels of skill and playing style.

The game has many options available in the initial setup; I choose what suits me and continue to do so throughout the game.

I agree with your statement; purposely gimping yourself makes no sense. Yet there are many different weapons with their own specific advantages and drawbacks which allow for different playstyles. Your favourite weapon is the AKM, while I run around with a G36 and a Chaser.

To make more weapons a viable choice I think the availability of (different) ammo should be looked at and the upgrades need to be tweaked. Some upgrades are simply detrimental and some weapons have overpowered upgrade paths. The G36 can be upgraded so that it has near perfect accuracy and a very high rate of fire, same goes for the AK74/2. Upgrades for the VLA special assault rifle are marginal and often detrimental. Shotgun shells and 5.45/5.56 ammo are (too) widely available, whereas ammo for a sniper rifle or 9x39 is very scarce.

That once you’ve obtained, for example an AKM, and upgraded it, every other AKM becomes useless doesn’t bother me that much. Those weapons are simply become merchandise which, coupled with a sensible weight limit, is an additional gameplay mechanic.

What type of game I believe or do not believe this is has nothing to do with the subject so please keep that out of the discussion.

There are players who are not so used to this kind of games who are happy for those upgrades as it makes the game type more manageable for them so they can enjoy the game instead of getting frustrated by getting killed all the time because the game is too difficult for them.

If you like to play the game as a true Horror Survival Game, then don't use the upgrades. There is no one forcing you to use the upgrades. It's a free choice just like no one is forcing you to pick up every single thing that can be sold and sell it.

There are people who plays the original SoC using only what they can find in the game, they don't sell anything. It's their choice, no one is forcing that style of playing on them.

That's not what I meant by "survival horror", I mean that decision making and managing equipment is a big part of game of this genre, which is why it doesn't make sense and is stupid to make bad decisions on purpose, like not upgrading weapons when game offers it. That's why I mentioned "sandbox game", because that's genre where decision making doesn't matter and everything is just about fooling around for fun... Is that what you're suggesting to me?
