Dwarf Tossing, Cyrillic Text & .OGF files.

Rangda, Like it or not, the mod has a cure for the broken economy. I'm becoming adept at using a knife on the snorks, and staying out of trouble.

Then I lost count of how many Dwarves were killed. Turned out that the live dwarves were tossing the dead dwarves at me.

Had a chance to play this a little more. So far so good. Can't figure out why my guy woke at 12:20 am, while trying to sleep until morning. There was not a blowout then. After playing some dark mods, this one seems almost too bright at night, so I just went back to work.

There is probably allot of vanilla English stalker text, and maybe some already translated text (AMK etc.), that could replace most of the machine translation.

Read that non-Russian players will have a problem sometime with cyrillic text. Some texture paths may have cyrillic characters, and the path to the texture may be in the .ogf file. So this time we might have to rename some folders, texture files, and also edit .ogf files.
---END QUOTATION---

So far this mod has 'fixed' the economy by not having one. Supplies weren't so bad when doing the Forrester missions, but as part of monolith you seem to get nothing and like it. I'm still part of Monolith, just got the mission to get medical supplies from the doctor's assistant. Tried doing it real quick on Sunday but got steamrolled by a pseudogiant in Pripyat (I so do not have the supplies to take him on).

I'm assuming it gets more normal when you get rescued from Monolith. I have to admit I haven't tried the knife much, did you actually do the Monolith dwarf mission with just the knife? If so you're a way better stalker than I am; dwarves at the end of those long hallways kick my ass (got sent into perma-spinny effect death far too many times on that mission).

Story is different but hasn't really grabbed me yet. Too mutant-centric, seems like one "get x guarded by mutants" or "kill x mutants" mission after another.

It will suck if this ends up needing some non-trivial file edits to work...

Food for Solomon in Pripyat

I can't locate the medicine box--I did the Clerk mission back at Chernobyl, so that can't be the problem. I've looked in the eastern building, apparently I've missed it.

Pseudostomp and rangda Did either of you find it yet? rangda, thanks for the tip on how the dosimeter works--I have a couple of anti-rad artifacts on my belt that are slowly reversing my dangerous levels.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cyrillic trouble, seen a couple of guns mentioned on forums, w_svd_c.ltx, and wpn_sayga12k.ogf. We can probably make a tiny patch when a problem arises.

Tab key shows your radiation level and the dosimeter reading.

Some spoiler type stuff below ( & some edited out):

Carelessly got irradiated doing the Clerk job, so I'm gobbling antirads, which has me hungry for expensive food. My Pripyat pseudogiant appeared at midnight, came right at me, and walked into an anomaly.

Rangda, The Knife is strong. Two swipes or one stab killed Pripyat snorks

I broke the economy again. http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/6153/secrettrailssarcoloot.jpg Had some weirdness with stashes in cans and crates which seemed to be empty, but were actually not showing up right away. Redid Chernobyl-2 yesterday and took the teleport route, breaking boxes for loot. Very well equipped after returning to Charon for the first time. Monolith trader takes artifacts.

Are you looking for the food box or the medicine box? The food box is in pripyat in what is supposedly a deli. Being totally unable to read Russian this was a pita for me. For a hint it's on the left side of the map relative to you coming out of chern-1. Another hint it looks like one of the small boxes littering the sarcophagus that you cannot damage or open. If you really get stuck there are screencaps of where it is in the q&a section of the amk forum thread for the mod

If you're looking for the medicine box it's in chern-1. Clerk gives you a pretty garbled hint after you finish the killing army mission. He says it's nearby in the area by the locomotive. Look around there and if you can't find it I'll say where it is. It looks like the agropom document case in the world, like a repair box in inventory.

The reward for this mission is your choice of either a Russian or NATO scope.

Have not yet found a teleport to get to the 3rd box.
---END QUOTATION---

So you got the two boxes on the ground? The 3rd one you get by going through the teleporters as if you were finishing the vanilla game. I started by going through one of the two teleporters right by where you exit the sarc. (forget which one I took, not sure if it matters which or not.) When you get in the right area you'll have to do some exploring it's pretty well hidden.

As I recall there is no reward, but it unlocks the food/medicine quest to give you a scope.

---QUOTATION---
A guard gave a mission to get five cans of food.
---END QUOTATION---

I ended up buying a bunch of food by saving/loading in front of Solomon, not many other ways to get food as a Monolith (doctor's assistant sells food for absurd prices and you eventually can get a sausage or two by killing people).

---QUOTATION---
Solomon's guard gave a mission to bring 8 snork legs.
---END QUOTATION---

Gives shotgun shells, 50 I think.

---QUOTATION---
Charon's guard wants 5 PDAs.
---END QUOTATION---

I think I'm almost done with Monolith & I only have 3. Rare drop from people you kill in Pripyat.

---QUOTATION---
Pripyat trader wants two night stars as payment. I only have one, but he will take 10 dog tails. PITA since Pripyat has few blind dogs.
---END QUOTATION---

Couldn't find 2 night stars but there are supposedly 2 in Pripyat. While doing the kill army mission when first meeting Clerk there was a group of wild dogs that attacked my squad; that got me 4. Zone between chern-1 and Pripyat a few times and a big pack of dogs (all colored black) spawned in chern-1 right by the Pripyat zone line. Killed them and got 8 or so more, did this mission that way.

---QUOTATION---

---END QUOTATION---

You really have to watch that rad count in this mod. I redid that bit with Clerk as I did the same thing my first time. Really easy in some of the Pripyat missions you haven't gotten to yet to irradiate yourself as well.

---QUOTATION---
I broke the economy again.

WHERE did you get a Vintar? I got an AS Val from one of the "training" document missions but didn't use it until later than you are due to lack of 9x39 ammo. 9x39 is very powerful like NS; can headshot exo armor and get 1 shot kills. One good burst in the chest is also an instant kill. I've since got a Groza but haven't used it yet.

Crash at Start-Up

I get a crash as soon as I try to load up this mod. No problem with most mods but just to be safe I did a clean install with 1.004. I'm using the US version if that makes a diffence.

XR_3DA.exe caused BREAKPOINT in module "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\bin\xrCore.dll" at 0023:00777D15, xrDebug::backend()+165 byte(s)

That's the error message I get - think it's a fairly generic one. I've tried with just the base mod installed and I've tried with all the steps and additional files (patches, translations, localization fix etc) listed on the first page.

Any ideas? I'd love to try this out....

Did you edit localization.ltx and change rus to eng? As I recall the translation archive does not have this change in it.

Some spoilers

Finally escaped monolith, ended up at the swamps with the doctor (Strelok's doctor). This mod has it's own swamps map instead of using the CS one; it's much more colorful.

Doctor gave me a mission to kill some super powerful swamp monster that spews spiders when you kill it. I think it's the swamp monster from NS with spider friends.

Not sure I have enough bullets.

Yeah I changed the localization file and made the "eng" text folder. I've gone through and started testing which files cause it to crash and what files can be in the gamedata folder and at least let me get to the main menu. It seems to be quite a few files so far, all config files.

I started just by adding in each config file or folder at a time and when the game crashed at start i could narrow down which files were causing the crashes. so far the ones I've noticed that have caused crashes are

- system.ltx
- localization.ltx (before and after making the "eng" change)
Config -> Creatures: stalkers.ltx, spawn_sections.ltx, monsters.ltx

That's as far as I got. Something in the "Config -> Misc" folder is also causing the same type of crash but there are too many files in there for me to check, so I gave up. Obviously a lot of the "config" files conflict with my version of the game.

I wonder if I'm missing something...

jkeith26, The most up to date instructions and links are in the Mod Downloads forum, second post at the moment. Top posts get outdated as forum software locks them in a day or two. https://www.gsc-game.com/main.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&thm_page=1&thm_id=20533&sec_id=17

If you happen to have the Steam version then you are at v1.0005. There is an adaptation. Suggest blowing out your mod gamedata folder and reinstalling. Might want to rename your existing savedgame folder and user.ltx. Have to start a new game.

Rangda, OMG, a spider spewing swamp monster. Spiders will probably be in the next NS release (Arhara page had a screenshot).
Seems I was very lucky. Using AMK "rare caches" menu option, although that may not matter. Enter Chernobyl-2 for the first time, go through the campfire teleport and up the ladder, or the backhoe teleport, and find yourself on the roof of the Sarcophagus. There are three breakable brown crates. Just replayed that section, breaking those boxes 22 times. Got a Vintar on the 3rd try, a G36 on the 10th try. The rest of the tries usually yielded some grenades, twice a USP pistol, and sometimes nothing.

Not so lucky with the Clerk. Had not yet taken the Solomon food & medicine job, so the Clerk never offered a clue to the location. Replayed to test, and the medicine box spawns either way. Likely to roll back and lose a day of exploring every room in Pripyat, as the replay yielded a skat-10 with yellowish nv (and I'm less irradiated).
