A Cursed Artifact

On a narrow winding dirt road two figures walk staggered; one with his face half covered by a respirator with the hood of his jacket covering his head leads the pair warily down the path, with a string tied one end to his index finger and the other tied a spent bullet casing, the leader gently lobs the casing about fifteen feet forward to ensure the security of the path. The other with his gun at his hip, finger poised near the trigger, trails just enough not to be parallel but still in view of the leader. The two converse about their recent trip to the Agroprom research institute to sell an artifact to the ecology scientists that had recently taken residence there.

“Damn scientists; we went through all that shit just to find that ‘thing’ and all they gave us for it is 3000 RU, are they for real!?”

“Zek, calm down, it’s a lot more that we would have gotten if we had sold it to Barkeep; don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice guy but he’d probably only give you a 1000RU for an artifact made out of gold!”

“You’re right, you’re right; at least it’s enough to get us on our feet for our next trip to the plains…. You know what would be insane, if we broke through to the center, like that one guy did; Just imagine the fortunes that lie beyond the scorcher!”

“HA! Just imagine the horrors that lie beyond it; we got enough shit to deal with in the plains, and that is only a little bit east of the Bar, nowhere near the center.”

They both Chuckled to themselves, how absurd the notion of them breaking through to the center of the zone thought Zek, he continued throwing his casing when he felt a tug on his arm. He turned to Metka gesturing him to be quiet, Metka then pointed to a cluster of trees to the side of the road. Zek wound his casing up and slung his AK down from his shoulder, with cautious eyes they looked onward to the apparent threat that lurked ahead, the rustle of leaves echoed throughout the area, the sound became louder and louder and it approached through the dense foliage, nervous and frightened the stalkers braced for the impending fight. With a loud snapping of a branch, the creature had signaled its arrival.

(will continue this story when i have more time to write it. I would appreciate some feedback :] )
