Hunter

Hunter always knows the best spots to catch beasts off their guard. Hunter only needs his Rizzini double barrel to take care of anything. Nobody messes with Hunter if they want to live.

'I heard, this one time, he stayed in the branches of a tree for a week to catch one particular beast. Smack bang in the middle of bloodsucker lands! Tell ya what, he's got balls!'

It's raining again. Slightly acidic, some of the leaves start to steam and fizzle. It doesn't bother Hunter though. He keeps his sights trained on an open patch of grass 50 metres in front of him, waiting. He's been hunting this beast for weeks now. If beast is the right word for it, more like abomination. All the bad things of a bloodsucker, snork and vampire put together. Must have come from some underground lab deep in the Red Forest. Nothing that comes from the Red Forest is natural. Hunter has seen things which mankind aren't meant to see. Still, the money he'll get from the various parts will suffice to pay for food and ammunition. And for a present for his daughter. Hunter hasn't seen her in years, she must be 6 or so now. Not that it's easy to keep track of time in the Zone. Hunter remembers her, her beautiful long hair, her delicious giggle, h

Movement. In front of him. Something is parting the long grass in front of Hunter, coming in his direction. He starts his breathing routine. First trigger pull looses a slug straight at the head, whilst the second trigger pull gives a volley of buckshot of what remains of the beasts upper torso.
The beast is coming closer. As it begins to come into sight, Hunter starts to slowly squeeze the trigger, the sights trained on its head. Only a little bit more squeezing...

All of a sudden, it senses him. 10 feet up in the tree in front of it. It charges the tree head first, faster that Hunter has ever seen, as the slug wizzes harmlessly over its head. The tree cracks at the point of impact, and Hunter is thrown forward, it is only by the skin of his teeth that he holds on to the branch. He knows now that he is in its domain now, and to trust his reflexes in the upcoming struggle. The tree comes down as the creature gives a howl. Hunter is pinned between a fork in the tree. The Rizzini is useless now, as attempting to use it one handed will only end up having it fly away, and him having no hope. The beast is almost on top of him, jumping between branches, beating furiously anything it thinks is moving with his gorilla size paws and 7 inch claws. It sees Hunter lying helpless. It is over him, its front paws on the 2 fork branches. It's saliva is dripping onto Hunter's face. As it goes to maul Hunter, he brings his .38 revolver out from under his back. At this range, there is no missing, and the first round penetrates the beasts jaw, leaving a gaping exit wound where it's nose once was. It gives a furious shout, and tears away the remainder of the tree fork Hunter was using as protection, and picks him up as if he was a ragdoll, throwing him against the tree stump. Hunter can feel his side crack and crumble against the thick wooden stump. It is likely his kidney has collapsed. His reflexes kick in, and he narrowly dodges the beast as it hurls through the air straight at him. Instead, it sails over him and the truck, and slides through the muddy ground behind the tree. Hunter had anticipated the weather, and used it to his advantage. He sends 2 more .38 rounds after it, drilling themselves harmlessly into the creatures rump. Hunter sprints in the opposite direction, after his Rizzini, lying uselessly under a pile of branches. As he leans down and grabs it with his hand, an amazing force pushes him over. It has returned, and it is furious. Hunter only has a minute or so left of energy before his stamina and strength succumb to the beast. He gets up to his feet. The beast is only a few metres in front of him, and his shotgun is a few feet behind him. Hunter drops his revolver, it is only going to be a hindrance from now on. The beast is stamping its feet, the razor sharp claws reaching out in eagerness for Hunter's flesh. It snorts, and charges Hunter. But now he has the advantage, the advantage of tactics. As it begins to charge, Hunter begins to step backwards, as fast as he can. At the perfect moment, he lets himself fall backwards, as the beast leaps for him. He gets hold of his Rizzini, and summoning all the strength he has left, Hunter lifts it one handed, the barrel rising in unison with the beasts voyage through the air. But it is too late, and Hunter pulls the trigger. 34g of buckshot pellets fly seamlessly out of the barrel, and spread themselves perfectly over the beasts head. The recoil pushes Hunter's arm against the ground, and the Rizzini flies out of his hand, as Hunter knew it would. But it doesn't matter. It's job is done.
Hunter picks himself up, and stumbles over to his revolver, wincing as he bends down to pick it up. He then stumbles back to the still quivering carcass of the beast, and puts the remaining 3 rounds into its brain, ending its existance. Hunter gets his shotgun off the muddy and blood soaked ground, reloads it with a slug and a buckshot round, and pulls it shut. He then reaches for his rucksack, faithfully lying undamaged in the remains of the tree, walks over to the beast, pulls the knife from his belt and begins the long and boring process of skinning and dissecting the beast.

Such is the life of Hunter.

Haha cheers

I went with the Hunter thing because I wanted him to be almost myth-like in his reputation, and using Hunter, similar to people like Guide in game, seemed more appropriate than using an actual name.

In the famous words of one of my grandparent's:

"I are like it."

However, just a word of caution - make sure that grammar is in order, and try to keep things separated into gooderly sized paragraphs.

Good job, that was really good. I know what that is like, just small scale, from shooting pigeons, rabbits, foxes etc. Be careful though, because huge paragraphs make for epic boredom.

Feel free *hint* to read mine now *hint* called The Meatgrinder *hint*
