yeah! dogs can be like good at finding items or dead bodies or just live people because of their good smell

Sorry.

If you didn't know there is no scent in the game, upwind vs. downwind won't ever be something you have to worry about. Apparently the AI relies on strictly sight and sound...forget where I got that but it was a good source IMO, that would make a dog mostly useless then.

The blind dogs can "sense" someone's presence through a wall so that can kind of pass off as a sense of smell.

You could just crank up the dogs hearing. Also be able to give it simple commands like fetch, sit or attack.

If I shoot a bird out of the sky, I don't want to have to go running about for it.
Dogs would also be a good alarm system, just make them sit near a door or something while you sleep.
They could also be used to clear a path with rats or flush out dwarves.

I'd also like other animals like horses/donkeys, to carry stuff and travel with. Mabye a hawk to attack birds in the sky or scout around a bit. Mabye even a pet rat you can use to sense other rats, anomalies and nearby food. I don't care if it's unrealistic, it would be fun. And I doubt pushing the release date back again would matter much as you all seem content with waiting forever for the game.

It's a pity individual/special stalkers aren't in the game, I reckon the hundreds of stalker clones would get boring after a while.

Going to name your hawk Lassie?

"What is it boy? A pair of stalkers comming this way...with bullpups? Are they using scopes? No, that's good. The tall on has a limp, that's good to know. Man, Lassie you are the best."

Or yer rat Stuart?

"Rats nearby, Stuart? Good to know. Now I can bring my anti-rat spray up from the bottom of my pack and put it on top. Maybe when we find them we will get away with the rat treasure horde."

Burn in hell, bloody rats, dwarfs, zombies, controllers, blind dogs, mutated insects, military troops, enemy stalker and everything else which moves.

I for one will try and lure a mutant into an empty building and then try and trap it in the building. After that everytime I pass by that building I will bring my mutant "pet" some mutant or stalker corpse for it to feed on. I hope it will last till the next blowout.......

Why necessarily dogs? How about a cat? A luller? Far more useful than a dog!

---QUOTATION---
have to make sure that the dog doesn't get stuck on stairs
---END QUOTATION---

Well I hope normal dogs can chase after you properly, so I'd expect pet dogs' pathfinding to work.

Dogs would be very useful when you need to discharge a meat-mincer though...
