Pets in Stalker...

I was just thinking, a dog is a man's best friend. Well, a stalker needs a friend to accompany him. Wouldn't it be great if you could tame or get an somekind of an animal. A dog would be great for defense and maybe helping you get food. A cat would also be able to get you food and just having a pet beside you, gives a fuzzy feeling Or you can tame, some kind of a wild mutant animal and get it to become your pet. Come to think of it, GSC, already made those blind dogs, it wouldn't be hard to make pets from them. Hope GSC notices this thread

your thoughts, opinions

My opinion on animals in the zone....they are good for 1 thing. Food.

But seriously...what would they add to the game? Whats a dog gunna do? follow you around and sniff its butt? It's not like they can help you in battle either...I dont think even the toughest of dogs would last long against some of the mutants in this game, and especially other stalkers with guns. If they did add this, I would still bring sparky along, but only for when I run out of rations.

just to add a nice touch to the game, pets don't neccecarily have to be strong and good for battle, just keep company, maybe some can carry some stuff around, and like i said before, to fetch food for ya Some pets like a tamed mutant animal... or a bear would help you fight.

Henchmen in NWN aren't the smartest of the bunch. You constantly have to go back to show them how to avoid obstacles and such. This becomes a kind of aggravating mini-game. As if micro management of your inventory wasn't enough, you have to make sure that the dog doesn't get stuck on stairs or attacks an enemy when you want to kill a him stealthily, ruining the suprise element. I mean, if the devs are admitting that they can't put proning because it's too difficult, imagine having animals travel difficult terrain!

Difficult could mean a ton of things lets not speculate here. Going to take your own thread off topic.

As for animals. I think it would be ok for the military, not for the stalker.

If you didn't know there is no scent in the game, upwind vs. downwind won't ever be something you have to worry about. Apparently the AI relies on strictly sight and sound...forget where I got that but it was a good source IMO, that would make a dog mostly useless then.

LOL, this is how dogs were used before humans realized dogs actually have a good sense of smell.
