I told this story over inb the Stalker Bar in General... thought maybe I should share it here for the Devs. While out in the Zone...I cracked open a 50 year-old botle of Baccarat cognac..after picking a safe spot to rest .... well, here is what happened...
Dreams in the Zone...
I picked a good spot to rest...a sheer rock face at my back with climable ledges for last-resort escape... high ground...with a good view of all approachs. Enough small brush to provide cover, but still allow me to see the terrain around my position.
I felt safe enough to rest awhile and look at my latest treasures... I had "found" a few PDAs...and a dusty, grimy bottle of what looked like booze of some kind... After cleaning the bottle... eureka!...I find that it is a 50 year-old bottle of Baccarat Cognac... Now this is treasure!!
I cracked the seal, praying that the contents had aged, not turned bad...and man...it was perfect! A smooth, hard-hitting cognac.
As the first drink went down...I could smell the pungent orangy bouquet...sooooooo smooth going down...and the warmth spread through my body. And Life Was Good. I was so tired, so very tired...but still must attend to business..
Checked my "found" PDAs... Hmmm..this is strange... A scientist...hiding from all factions... Reading his notes..I was at first inclined to dismiss them as the crazed meandering of a damaged brain...but something caught my eye.. He had evidently worked in a hidden Military Research Station within the Zone. His work involved testing a small device that ...whoa! What was this? An ATV? A Quad Runner at that...and what was more..this dead scientist was rambling on about a small device that used Artifacts as fuel...Had this guy really torn out the Quad's engine and replaced it with an Artifact-fueled device?
According to the notes...not all Artifacts would work with the "engine"...and the length of time they provided power varied, depending on the Artifact...
I was thinking that this was a perfect idea for transportation in the Zone.. fast, 4-wheel drive..all-terrain capability... Because there was no gasoline engine...finding fuel was not an issue...and since the Artifact-powered motor produced no emissions and ran silently... this Quad Runner wouldn't be as likely to attract attention from the mutants in the Zone....
What a concept!
Now...if I could only decipher the location of this Lab from these PDA notes! There is so much here...and much of it makes no sense...
A small noise startled me and my senses came into sharp focus... movement down the hill. I watched the pack of dogs cross the small saddle-back pass below me. They moved down into the forest, unaware of my presence. Good.
I stare at the PDA in my hand... Damn... some kind of security program had kicked in and wiped most all of the Notes from the PDA.... But I had read enough to know where my first stop was going to be...
Then it struck me... Had I really read all that? The Artifact-fueld engine.. a Quad Runner.... a secret Lab? Or had I dreamed a little dream while dozing after a few drinks of cognac...

Do ya think this Quad Runner might be cool?
