It would be better if the AKS-74U in the game which, visually... has the wrong magazine actually used the ammo of that wrong magazine, which is 7.62x39mm. The krink is small and easy to handle just like a SMG, but uses rifle cartridges instead of pistol cartridges. I think the Krinkov in 7.62 would be a kick ass weapon for indoor battles. Plus, you can get 100 round drums for it...

As for all these weapon suggestions for the game... I think its fine where it is. The game is supposed to emulate similar weapons that would be in the zone and there aren't going to be too many western weapons, mostly Russian weapons. The MP5 in the game, LR-300, and G-36 are already a bit unrealistic I think.

I just wish there were more Russian weapons in this game, especially the AK-47... really need that bigger 7.62 round, the 5.45 is a pussy of a round. I'm sorry to say, but its true. I own these types of weapons in real life and the 7.62 round is by far the best for zone conditions.

IMHO I'm so glad they have the VSS Vintorez in the game... best special sniper rifle ever! At least for short-medium range. Lots of bullet drop, but a powerful round and full auto for if someone sneaks up on you simply kicks ass.

the toz34 is an awesome shotgun, just do a bit of tweakage in trade_trader.ltx. its in mod discussion thread somewhere.

edit: i think the addition of the p90 would be great, its just a case of holding out for the sdk.

@hellbringer: i made my own tweaked ak-74 in stalker that uses the 7.62 round, and did some other modding to make the ammo more available and cheaper. Have a look at Niphty's modding guide for the basics

can we have a AEK-971 [link]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AEK-971[/link]

A Bizon would be lovely, as it uses the same ammunition (9x18mm) as the Makarov and there's plenty of that lying around in the zone. Also Bizons just generally kick arse.

Agreed the Vint is the best sniper weapon, and the Spaz only seems deadly in NPC hands with slug/dart ammo.

I'd thought the slugs at med/close range would make the NPCs reel much like the Vint does. Stagger or knock down, at the very least, but most shrug it off or don't even flinch.

Prolly why I don't play with shotguns in the game, just don't seem worth it past bandits/snorks/dogs.

I think the best backup weapon you can get your hands on is a shotgun, especially since the ammo is nice and cheap, and not too hard to find early on. One of those chasers I picked up in the freedom base while helping the Dutiers was a godsend. Just hit your enemies full on with the shotgun, and they're either dead or staggering. Same goes for most of the mutants, though the bloodsuckers take more then a few shots to go down.

Anyway, I think more SMGs would be a great idea. Something like the bizon would always be nice, though I'm not sure about the P90, seeing as it uses an uncommon ammo-type. I can't see the average stalker in the zone packing one of em. With the huge clip and the rate of fire, though, I bet it would be fun to use, however..

P.S.: Woo, first post.

yeh the dart rounds are good from far away, but i mean, some soldiers can take a full 6 or even 8 buckshot shells in combat

much shame about just 1 smg, definately needs to be an uzi like the mac 10/11 or even a full auto pistol with an extended mag as well.
