My first impression I got when I saw that video years ago is that helicopter's rotor blades suddenly melted for flying right above the reactor, lol.
Idk if there is a room for speculations since it seems obvious that rotor blades crashed against cable hanging from that crane. Before dying from radiation poisoning or getting assasinated people sometimes dies from not being focused while driving, or in this case flying.
I'm sure many will have seen this BBC dramatisation of the Chernobyl accident. I find it fascinating and horrifying in equal measure. Whilst some dramatic liberties may have be taken, it is an hour well spent, in my humble opinion.

When the volunteers for the dive stepped forward as one I had a lump in my throat. There's something about Russians I warm to, they have an earthy decency and I know, if I was brave enough, that I'd enjoy being a stalker.
