---QUOTATION---
I don't think they like the Military, almost all of them are former soldiers but the Military sent them into an impossible mission and didn't care.

They hated the Military for that, the first survivors in those missions formed the Duty faction.

Also, if you talk to the shooting range guy in Clear Sky, he'll say that their leader (Forgot the name) hates the Military to the guts.

EDIT

Keep writing.

So it's a Cordon outpost attack?
---END QUOTATION---

I realize that part, but the fact is that Duty has ties to the military that it isnt willing to loose (this is shown as Duty is still neutral with the military in SHoC). Considering this, I doubt they would ever make an open raid against them.

However, atm it seems like Petrenko met up with loners, not Duty, so thats a whole different story.

Glad you liked it, but that was only one part of a trilogy. Petreno will join the Loners and find out why the military assassinated him.

Great story

Too bad it ended, but it was a good story, and I liek how it tells the backstory of an existing character.

Only thing I'd point out is that most Duty members wereon reasonably good terms with the army, and wouldn't seek direct revenge, but who knows.

Great read

*Sorry it took long, I have been playing FEAR 2, great game btw*

Epilogue

Petrenko slowly opened his eyes, he grabbed his painful side and looked around, he was piled by dozens of dead bodies, from recently dead, to rotting. Petrenko stood up and limped away from the dead, not caring that it was probably full of disease and radiation.
"H-Hello?!" Petrenko cried into the barren field of death.
No one answered, only the eyes of the dead stared back.

Petrenko limped for what seemed like hours, and he had not seen anything but grass and dead. Why was he here anyway? He kept thinking to himself. At last, after a long hike over the dead, he came to a small camp. Petrenko snuck inside and looked around the corner, several Loners sat around a fire. Petrenko came around the corner and gasped, just before falling down on the dirt.

Petrenko awoke on a bed, he looked around and saw a man in the corner, he approached Petrenko.
"Well, I see you were also betrayed....Well, we're going to get payback. Today."

Chapter 11

Petrenko rose his weapon and looked in the direction of the noise. A small human sat in a corner, sobbing and growling, tearing something apart and putting the shiny, wet matter into his mouth. He stopped moving as Petrenkos light moved over the matter....Bloody flesh. The man looked up slowly and looked at Petrenko....Except it was far from human. The gas mask was hanging around its neck, and the military combat armour was torn to pieces.....But the eyes.....Petrenko had seen the eyes before. Hrskiy.
"Jesus Christ...." Petrenko said to himself, looking at the creature which was once Hrskiy, it roared and dove into a hole, taking a large chunk of meat with it.
Petrenko felt the hair raise on the back of his neck. He ran up the stairs and kicked the door open, placing some C4 on the way out. He set the timer for twenty seconds before slamming the door shut and running for the nearby outpost which lead to Rostok. He hid behind a wall as a large explosion shook the garbage, and rubble into the air. Petrenko rose and took his hood off before approaching the building. On the other side the basement was destroyed, all that remained was a pile of rubble, and a hand twitching from a small crack. He rose his MP5 and fired at the twitching hand, forcing it back into the rubble.
"I'm sorry..." Petrenko said.

5 Hours Later, 9:59 PM

With the darkness came rain. It poured down on the zone like a mortar strike.
Petrenko sat in a trailer by the outpost to Rostok, keeping his MP5 aimed at the entrance. He had been awake for hours, without water or food, all the MREs were on Hrskiy. Petrenko felt tired, his vision grew blurry as he fell asleep in the trailer.

7:05 AM

Petrenko woke to a light mist and dusty sun rays shining through the windows. He stood up and stretched before moving outside, outside he tossed his ghillie suit to the ground and tightened his combat armour before pulling on his gas mask. He moved Southward and passed several trash heaps before seeing a large detatchment of soldiers by the vehicle scrap yard.
"Hey! Over here!" Petrenko yelled, waving his hand above his head.
He saw several soldiers look over and call for their team leader, Petrenko couldn't hear what he said put he pointed towards him.
"Fire!" The Team leader yelled.
The team opened fire on Petrenko. He dove behind a large tractor and yelled, "Hold your god damn fire!" But the team wouldn't stop firing on him. Petrenko stood up and crouch ran behind the nearest trash heap.
"What the hell!?" Petrenko yelled, running from the Trash Heap to the large hangar in the center of the Garbage. He ran inside and hid under a large crane. Sure enough a squad of soldiers ran in....Searching for him.
"Take the left flank, I'll take the right. Yaram, stay here."
Petrenko pulled out his knife as the other two soldiers dissapeared behind him. He crawled out and behind the soldier, he rose the knife and slit the mans throat, silently lying him on the ground and sprinting out of the Hangar towards Rostok. He heard the soldiers yelling and firing in Petrenkos general direction. Petrenko thought he was home free as he reached the outpost to Rostok....Only to be ambushed by a squad of soldiers. They opened fire and shot Petrenko down, he fell to the earth and looked at his wounds. They bled, and bled. He was becoming cold.
The squad leader looked over Petrenko, "Target down." He said under his gas mask, "Returning to base. Over and out."
Petrenko coughed before fading into darkness.

A Soldiers Story

Chapter 10

Petrenko kept looking over his shoulder after the loss of Hrskiy and the strange, painfull noises. He hadn't rested for over an hour, and he was gradually becoming tired...But at last, the edge of the forest came into view. He went low and crawled out of the treeline, he was on one of the steep hills which encircled the Dark Valley, he had come out by an abandoned pig farm. Quietly he slid down the hill and hid by a bush, pulling the leaves over his ghillie suit to blend in, he lied his Mosin Nagant on the ground and pulled out his binoculars. About a mile away he saw more of the mysterious men in black raincoats, with them was Spreshk. Silently he picked up his Mosin Nagant and ran into the field to his north, beyond a bridge, and finally into a festering marsh. Petrenko moved under the bridge and heard voices.
"Ok. The prisoner has been taken and we are almost done taking the Freedom base. Go check on the outposts at the entrances to the dark valley."
"'Aight!"
Petrenko waited for the footsteps to die away, he peaked out from the bridge and saw the first man walk towards a large unfinished building to the north.
Petrenko hugged the wall and peared around the corner, aiming his Mosin Nagant towards the first man, he squeezed the trigger and the weapon popped, killing the man outright. Petrenko pushed away from the wall and ran to the mans body. He didn't have anything besides stolen equipment.
"Bandits...." Petrenko said to himself, pocketing the items on the bandits body. He took all he wanted and drug the body into a nearby ditch.

After a short time crawling in the ditch Petrenko saw a large factory. He stood up and flanked behind it, not attempting to find trouble or something worse than death within. He passed it and finally he was to his objective, the large, unfinished building lied not even a quarter of a mile away. Petrenko sighed with relief and quietly approached the building, making sure to move from cover to cover and to stay as low as possible. At last, he came to the gates.
Peaking within he saw the bandits gathering around a large pit, something, or someone, was down there. He snuck into the base and hid behind a truck, it was then he heard growling and barks from within the pit......He also saw Spreshk being hung upside down over the pit.
"Please! Don't do this!" Spreshk pleaded.
"Give me one reason...One reason why I shouldn't cut this rope right now and let you fall to the dogs." The heavily scarred bandit said, standing by the rope which held Spreshk above the pit.
Spreshk stuttered, "I...I can give you my squads position. O-O-Only five men, not-Not including me...."
"Where? Speak!" The bandit spat.
"B-By the ol-Old building in the Garbage, by the small swamp near the Dark Valley entrance....Please...Let me live."
The bandit smiled, "I'll let you live. The dogs? I don't know." The Bandit rose the knife and cut the rope, letting Spreshk fall into the pit.
The bandits laughed as Spreshk screamed as the dogs tore him to pieces, and Petrenko couldn't do anything, otherwise he would have the same fate. He crawled back out of the base and hugged the wall of the big building, he saw a ladder which led up to the roof, a perfect sniping position. Silently he clambered up the ladder, being careful not to loosen the bolts which held it up. He finally reached the top and climbed up onto the roof and ran to the edge. He pulled out his Mosin Nagant and aimed down the scope, the Bandits were about to fire at the dogs in the bloody pit....The perfect opportunity for an assassination. The bandit which killed Spreshk rose his arm and ordered the bandits to fire into the pit. As the weapons fired, so did Petrenko. The round struck the lead bandit in the leg and he toppled into the pit, getting hit by his own mens fire. It appeared as though a bandit had caused it....They never knew Petrenko was there.

Two Hours Later, 4:23 PM

Petrenko finally came out of the Dark Valley and into the Garbage, bloody, and shaken. He drug his feet to the destroyed building and looked around. His team was missing. He looked around and searched every corner of the ruins....No blood, no spent shell casings.....No team. He sat down on a large piece of rubble and layed his head in his hands. Where was his team, it was then he remembered the basement. Petrenko stood up and pulled out his MP5 and removed the silencer, he moved to the basement door behind the ruins and pulled it open. Down below it was the same as before, no blood or bodies....Although the signs of battle were everywhere. Petrenko examined the bullet holes on the walls and the spent rounds on the ground, it was as if they were fighting a ghost. Petrenko moved further down the stairs and switched on his light, down below were large holes in the walls, but they were not made by human tools.....It was then the door to the basement slammed shut, and Petrenko heard the most horrifying sounds he had ever heard.....

A Soldiers Story

Chapter 9

Hrskiy and Petrenko finally made it into the forest, oddly, they didn't find any mutants, only anomolies and patches of deadly radiation.
"Let's rest..." Petrenko said, moving into a large patch of open ground.
Hrskiy sat down in the grass, "Agreed....Is it me, or have we been marching around in circles?" He asked.
Petrenko looked around, he couldn't see the edge of the forest, but it was cirtainly familiar, "This forest is evil...I suggest we don't wait here for long."
After a short meal, the two soldiers pulled the ghillie hood over their heads and set back off into the maze of trees and grass, dodging anomolies and flanking around radiation patches......It was then they came back to the clearing they had just left only minutes ago....
"What the hell!" Hrskiy yelled, "We have been walking in circles!"
Petrenko looked around, "We're trapped.....An anomoly?"
Hrskiy pondered for a moment, "I have been here longer than you, and I have never experienced anything like this before. We head straight, yet we end up in the exact position we were only moments ago."
Petrenko picked up a rock and threw it into the distance, he waited a moment, just before getting hit in the back of the head by the very same rock....
"What the hell!" Hrskiy yelled, shaking.
"Stay cool! I'll call the others.." Petrenko pulled out his radio, "Squad, do you read me? This is Corporal Petrenko, I repeat, do you read me?"
No reply....Only static.
"Shit." Petrenko yelled, shoving the radio back into his pack.
"Well we're fucked!" Hrskiy exclaimed, "What're we gonna do now?!"
"Shut up!" Petrenko yelled, "Go low, and crawl...."
The two soldiers went prone and began crawling forward, they finally noticed a strange anomoly in the air, it was hard to see, but noticable. Petrenko picked up a rock and tossed it up, it disapeared into the bubble like anomoly, and came out behind them.
"Stay low..."
They crawled under it and finally came to the other side. It was somekind of teleporting anomoly, it was the reason they had been going in 'circles'.
"Watch out for them..." Petrenko said, crouching and stalking through the grass, Hrskiy at his six. They moved from tree to tree, silently creeping through the forest. At last, they saw a building come into view.
"Go silent..." Petrenko whispered.
They went prone and crawled towards the base, they could see movement on the concrete walls, several armed bandits. Petrenko halted Hrskiy and he ran forward, quietly moving behind a wooden fence, he peaked around and saw it was an old Soviet factory. Petrenko motioned for Hrskiy.
"Yessir?" Hrskiy said as he reached Petrenko.
"Attach your silencer to the Nagant.....Open fire on the patrol to the left, I'll dispatch the one on the right.
"Understood."
They attached silencers to their weapons and took aim from the fence. Petrenko held his breath and aimed the Nagants sights on the bandits head.
"Ready..." Hrskiy whispered.
"Roger that......Fire!" Petrenko whispered, squeezing the trigger simultaniously with Hrskiy, dispatching the two bandits with ease.
"Enemy eliminated....Forward." Petrenko said, going prone and crawling into the field towards the factory, stopping as the bandit snipers scanned over the two soldiers positions.
At last the soldiers reached the concrete wall of the factory and stood up. They pulled out their MP5 Silenced and crawled into a small hole in the wall. The factory courtyard was empty, the only enemies in the area were the snipers on the walls, Petrenko and Hrskiy moved from thier cover and got to a position where they could see the snipers.....Four were evenly spread apart on the wall.
"Open...Fire."
The weapons silently popped and the bandits fell silently to the earth.
"Clear." Petrenko whispered, "Hold...." He stood up and moved into the courtyard. No one fired on him or acknowleged he was present, "Regroup."
Hrskiy ran from his cover and stopped in front of Petrenko. They ran behind the large factory building and to the metal fence on the other side...Unfortunately for the two soldiers....Radiation signs littered the other side of the fence. Moving forward would be suicide.
"Fuck." Hrskiy exclaimed, staring at the barren field of radiation.
"We move, no stopping. We have protection." Petrenko said, motioning to the gas masks on their heads, "Now move."
Petrenko cut a hole in the fence and dived through, his gieger counter went off the scales as they sprinted through the field to the treeline. Petrenko could feel the heat of the radiation as they reached the center, he jumped over several dead bodies and went into a mad sprint for the treeline but his gieger counter kept clicking wildly. He looked back and saw Hrskiy tugging at his gear.
"What are you doing!?" Petrenko yelled back.
Hrskiy screamed as a loud screech echoed from the trees.
Petrenko fell to his knees as a loud roaring echoed in his ears. He stood back up, grasping his head, and ran into the forest. His gieger counter died down, but the noise still echoed in his head.
"Am I going mad?!" Petrenko screamed...Suddenly, the sound stopped. He checked his hands and smacked his head, he was still alive. He had no idea what just happened....It was then he remembered Hrskiy, standing in the middle of the radiation field without his gear.
Petrenko took a deep breath before moving back into the dark forest, dreading what awaited him around every tree and rock.....

A Soldiers Story

*Another short one I'm afraid, I am busy as of late*

Chapter 8 (Part 2)

"Good idea." Spreshk said, shouldering his weapon, "We can barely live in the southern areas, what makes you think we stand a chance up north? Especially near the radar."
Petrenko sprung up, knife in hand, "I'm in command here! Not you! You will do as I say....Understood?" Petrenko lowered his knife and moved back into the Garbage from the tunnel, the squad following him.
Viktor ran up beside Petrenko as they reached a large destroyed building, "What the hell man? You're going crazy...Hey! Listen to me!" Viktor grabbed Petrenkos shoulder, Petrenko swung around, his eyes wild behind his gas mask.
"Touch me again....Please..." Petrenko shrugged Viktors hand from his shoulder and moved into the rubble, "Clear the area."

Petrenko and another soldier from the squad moved into a basement area of the building, blood stains were on the wall and signs of recent activity were noticable.
"Check it out..." Petrenko ordered the soldier.
The soldiers gulped before moving down the stairs and into the dark basement. It was quiet for a moment before the soldier ran back up, "Clear..."
"Clear?" Petrenko asked suspiciously.
"Aye aye sir."
Petrenko eyed the dark cellar before ordering the soldier out of the basement, Petrenko followed closely behind. The two soldiers walked back to the buildings courtyard and waited by a large Soviet statue, silently awaiting for the others to return.

10 Minutes Later

Petrenko rose from the ground as he saw the others emerging on the horizon, from the entrance to the Dark Valley. They sprinted back and came to a halt infront of Petrenko.
"What happened?" Petrenko asked, examining the troops, "Where is Viktor and that other ass? Spreshk?"
Tyrokl cought his breath, "Someone jumped us by the Dark Valley, dressed in black....Hooded.....They killed Viktor! And that Spreshk guy...They drug him away."
"Viktor...." Petrenko had now lost his best friend in the god forsaken zone, his face grew red with anger, "We don't leave our men behind....We're going to slaughter these bastards!" Petrenko pointed at one of the soldiers, "You! You carry the supplies, correct?"
"Yessir." The soldier said, lying a heavy bag on the ground.
"Stealth gear?" Petrenko asked, crouching over the bag.
"Yessir.....Only two ghillie suits, two modified Mosin Nagants, and two silent MP5s submachineguns." He said, lying all the stealth gear on the ground.
Petrenko looked at the squad, "Alright, Hrskiy. You're with me."
Hrskiy nodded, pulling the Ghillie suits over his head and a camoflauge gas mask over his face.

After the two were geared up, Petrenko ordered the rest of the men to remain at the destroyed building before moving running off to the Dark Valley. Petrenko went prone in a patch of tall grass, he pulled out his Mosin Nagant and exaimined the entrance to the Dark Valley, just beyond a radioactive patch of land. Sure enough, he saw several snipers in black rain coats perched in trees, heading forward would be suicide.
Petrenko motioned for Hrskiy, "Alright, snipers at twelve o' clock. we'll have to flank around through the forest."
"I think I saw a factory to the east of the garbage when we were in the chopper, there may be transport there." Hrskiy said, pointing towards a thick forest.
"Well lets go..." Petrenko said, silently moving towards the forest.

A Soldiers Story

Chapter 8 (Part 1)

Petrenko stepped out of the complex and into the smoke and fire of the previous battle. The remaining soldiers ran in and out of the base, killing the injured, or saving the few wounded soldiers. Petrenko gave a quick salute as a Major Treskovi ran up to him.
"At ease." The Major ordered, "I have been given the order to promote you to Corporal and also to inform you that you will be given command of an elite special forces team. Congratulations soldier." The Major nodded before running off towards his company.
Petrenko looked down at the rank which the Major gave him, he slid them in his pocket and attatched the other rank to his combat uniform. He ran forward towards the chopper and waited for his squad.
When the squad finally arrived he stepped onboard and helped his squad inside.
"Listen up! We will be moving over to a special forces squad today! Thier post is in the Eastern garbage! Get ready." Petrenko yelled. He strapped his helmet back on and looked down as the soldiers stormed the base and killed any wounded without compassion, without mercy.

30 Minutes Later

The chopper finally reached the LZ. Petrenko slid the door open and ordered his troops out, he grabbed the rope and slid down.
"Clear the area!" He yelled as they touched the ground.
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
"Clear!"

The squad all reported before moving into a tunnel in the side of a garbage trash heap. They pulled on thier gas masks and moved inside to meet the squad.
"Halt!" Someone yelled from a small lump of garbage.
"It's ok! Corporal Petrenko reporting."
"Order arms!" The voice said. A man with a gas mask stepped out saluted, "Sargeant Spreshk, awaiting orders."
"At ease. What's the situation?" Petrenko asked.
"Shit. We are forced to live in these god damn trash heaps, yet the bastards still find us. I'm talking of the lone Stalkers. They kill our men, and then preach about peace in the zone. Bullshit...." The Sargeant said.
"Where is thier base?" Petrenko asked.'
The Sargeant laughed, "Base? They're everywhere! From the Cordon, all the way to the border to the Brain Scorcher."
"How do we stop them?"
"That's your job...You're the new squad leader.....Damn do I feel sorry for you." The Sargeant said.
"Why?" Petrenko asked.
"Well the loners kind of strung him up in thier 'village' in the Cordon. Left him for the mutants. We could pick up what was left of him in one hand...Good luck."
Petrenko sighed and sat down on a small boulder, "We..We will try and move north...Push the Stalkers south, and the military can get a hold of the northern areas."

Chapter 7

Petrenko helped toss the last body into the fire. A good twenty zombies dead and burning.
"Alright people!" The First Sargeant yelled, emerging from his shack, "Alpha platoon and third squad, Bravo platoon get some rest. We move out 6 AM tomorrow morning."
Petrenko sighed as he remembered he was part of the investigation units to be sent to investigate and secure Agroprom. He moved to the barracks and finally got some sleep.....

6:01 AM

The platoon sargeant pulled the barracks fire alarm the next morning. The soldiers sprung up and stepped out of their bunks.
"Alright, Alpha platoon, one squad per chopper, same with Bravo third squad. Now move it people!" The Platoon Sargeant yelled.
After the soldiers hit the showers they got into their combat armour and went to the armoury to retrieve their weapons. The squads ran outside and into their choppers, the choppers took off one by one, only Petrenkos squad remained.
"Move! Lets go!" The chopper pilot yelled.
Petrenko ordered his troops to the chopper and stepped inside, "Lets go!" Petrenko yelled to the pilot. The ground below was a blur as the chopper flew over the zone. Petrenko looked down and saw the factory from the previous night, a group of bandits had already taken it.
At last the choppers passed the far outpost and zoomed over the garbage, finally, the complexes of the Agroprom research institute came into view.
"Alright, check your supplies and rations!" Petrenko yelled to his squad.
The squad began to check their packs and reload their weapons before turning off the safety.
"Clear?!" Petrenko asked.
The squad nodded in unison.
"Good! We may be here for awhile!" Petrenko reminded his troops.
"We're dropping you east of the research institute! Prepare for drop!" The pilot yelled back, bringing the chopper to a stop at the main entrance.
The radios buzzed with activity as the other squads dropped down.
"The area is crawling with Duty targets! Retreat!"
"Take cover! MG nest on the second floor!"
Petrenko had never been in a fight such as this before, he said a prayer and opened the door to the chopper and lowered the rope.
"Move move move!" He yelled as his squad rappeled down the rope to the ground. He grabbed the rope and slid down, instantly sliding to cover as he hit the ground.
"Sniper in the tower! Far right side!" Hrskiy yelled.
"On it!" Viktor pulled out his G36 and hit the sniper between the eyes, "Target eliminated."
Petrenko and his squad ran inside the complex and they took cover behind an inactive APC infront of the large building.
Petrenko ordered the squad to hold their fire, "Viktor! Take sniping position in northern tower! Hrskiy! Flank behind the base walls and use C4 to destroy that wall, then provide cover as first squad breaches! Tyrokl! You're with me!"
Petrenko and Tyrokl ran towards the main building and hugged the wall. The main doors were locked, they had to find another way inside. He and Tyrokl ran the length of the building and came across a group of Dutiers attempting to flank second squad, Alpha platoon. Tyrokl pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin.
"'Nade out!" He yelled, he and Petrenko ducked behind a sandbag.
The grenade destroyed the Duty group and gave second squad and easy path to the north exit.
"Lets move!" Petrenko yelled, jumping over the cover and onto the concrete ground. He ran behind the complex to Hrskiy, who had already destroyed a good portion of the rear wall. First squad of Alpha platoon sprinted inside and took up positions.
"This is second squad Alpha platoon! We have taken the northern exit, I repeat, we have taken the northern exit!" Second squad reported.
Third squad Alpha platoon cut in, This is third squad Alpha platoon! We and forth squad Alpha platoon have taken the courtyard and have the enemy pinned inside the complex building, awaiting orders."
Petrenko, Tyrokl, and Hrskiy ran towards the ladder on the main complex. Petrenko pulled out his radio and broadcasted on all friendly channels, "This is third squad Bravo platoon. We are breaching the building via the rear ladder. Distract the enemy as we enter, and Viktor?"
"Yessir?" Viktor replied.
"Hold your position and provide sniper cover for squads in courtyard."
"Understood sir."
Petrenko turned to his squad, "Radio silence. Go silent."
The squad turned off their radios and put their silencers on their weapons before climbing up the ladder. They reached the roof and made a clean sweep of the area.
"Clear."
"Move inside." Petrenko whispered. He silently opened the roof door and stepped inside to the stairwell. The squad moved down to the forth floor and saw three Dutiers pinned at the windows.
"Fire!"
The squad swung around the corner and silently dispatched the Dutiers.
"Move..."
They secured the floor and moved down to the third floor.
"Clear! Clear second floor."
The squad moved into to the stairwell but were spotted by a squad of dutiers.
"Open fire!" Petrenko and the squad ducked and opened fire on the squad of Dutiers.
"Clear! Move on!" Petrenko took the lead and hugged the wall, he peaked around and saw a group of Duty with heavy weaponry, from PKM MGs to RPGs. A straight up attack would be useless.
"Alright," Petrenko whispered, "Heavily armed targets around the corner. Frontal attack is useless. Do you have anymore C4?" He asked Hrskiy.
Hrskiy opened up his pack, "I have one left."
"Good," Petrenko said, "Plant it on the wall and I'll do the rest, just get back and detonated it when you see the signal."
"What's the signal?" Hrskiy asked.
"You'll know. Trust me."
Hrskiy left the stairwell for a minute and returned, "Planted."
Petrenko stood up, "Good, now stay here. Remember, wait for the signal."
Petrenko checked his ammo and ran back onto the second level, he stepped around the corner and yelled to the Dutiers. They swung around and fired, hitting Petrenko on the shoulder. He sprinted away and dove into the stairwell, just as Hrskiy detonated the explosive.
The explosion shook the building and the footsteps of the dutiers died away. The squad rose up and brushed the dust from their armour.
"I *cough* I think it's clear..." Tyrokl said.
Petrenko nodded and ordered the squad downstairs. It was clear except from a lone Duty soldier injured on the floor.
"Finish him..." Petrenko ordered as he opened the doors to the complex.....

Chapter 6

Petrenko and Viktor jogged into the base and fell into the company mass formation which stood in the courtyard, the First Sargeant was reporting.
"Company present." He reported to the CO.
"Understood." The CO said, dissmissing the First Sargeant, "Alright people, you obviously must want to know of the current situation."
The CO took a deep breath before examining a piece of paper, "Kolesk, first and second squads, went missing at the agroprom research institute. As you know, they came back in a rather, might I say, injured state. Two squads dead or missing, and a Sargeant on his death bed. Unfortunatly we do not know the cause of this, so! Tomorrow morning we will send alpha platoon and third squad of bravo platoon to investigate the area. Fall out!"
Petrenko stepped back and went back to the barracks, along with the rest of the company. He changed into his BDU and began to clean his Famas assault rifle, he readjusted his sights and ran outside and to the armoury to turn in the weapon.
"Hey Fyodor." Petrenko said to the armoury manager.
"'Sup?" He replied.
"Nothing. Not quite fond of the zone to be honest though." Petrenko said with a sigh.
Fyodor laughed, "You'll get used to it. I remember my first day. Dropped me in with a group of Spetsnaz! I was the last one alive to crawl my way back to base."
"Why are you not active? Why do you spend your days locked in the armoury and not out there as a grunt?" Petrenko asked, handing his rifle through the cage and signing off his name.
"Do I look like a fighter to you?! Look at me! I'm quite content to sit in here and get shitfaced all day." He exclaimed.
"Glad to see you're doing something productive then....See ya." Petrenko said, going back outside into the afternoon sun, prepared to yet again do endless repetitions during PT and then 'defend' the base for another ten hours.

Two Hours Later, 3:38 PM

Petrenkos platoon finally got finished with PT and went back to the barracks to get fitted into their combat uniform.
"Hey! Private Petrenko!" His platoon Sargeant yelled, running over to him, "Petrenko. You are being promoted to squad leader. You have the honours of manning the heavy MG....Don't fuck up."
Petrenko saluted and ran up the lokout tower, where the mounted MG sat. Being squad leader he had complete control over what the squad did, and didn't do.
"Alright! Hrskiy! Man the MG and eliminate anyone who comes too close." Petrenko ordered.
Hrskiy saluted and took up his position while the others took up sniping positions.
"Tyrokl! watch left flank." The soldier positioned himself to see the left flank. A group of stalkers gathered in the location, taking cover behind a large tree.
Petrenko looked through his binoculars and examined them as they made a camp, "At ease Tyrokl. Open fire if they come in range."
Hrskiy turned around and motioned for Petrenko, "Sir....There is a group of unidentified stalkers coming from the tunnel. Should I open fire?"
"Stand by..." Petrenko lifted his binoculars and examined the stalkers....They were of the same group that tried to kill him a day earlier....Clear Sky, "Open fire."
Hrskiy squeezed the trigger on the MG as the Clear Sky squad emerged from the tunnel, the MG tore through the men like a knife through butter, piecing the armour and severing limbs.
"Hold your fire!" Petrenko yelled, he pulled out his binoculars again and waited for the smoke to clear, the squad was dead. All that remained was a pile of gruesome remains. Petrenko grinned, "As you were men."

Five Hours Later, 8:45 PM

Petrenko and his squad were exhausted, not a single soul had been seen since the Clear Sky squad emerged from the tunnel five hours earlier.
"Hrskiy, you can stop swinging that thing around like a maniac, you're giving me a headache!" A squad member yelled.
"Bwa, fuck you. I'll do whatever I want." Hrskiy scoffed.
Petrenko slammed his foot on the ground, "Shut the fuck up! Both of you!"
"Hey! Third squad! Get your asses down here now!" The platoon sargeant yelled.
The squad ran downstairs and gathered around the platoon sargeant.
"Alright third squad, you will be night patrol from now on. Return to base after you have done a complete patrol south of the bridge."
The squad saluted and followed Petrenko outside the base, on the long dark path. The only light was their headlamps, and the only sound their footsteps. Finally they reached the end of the road, to their left was a rookie camp, to their right, a lair of boars.....And straight in front of them....was infinite darkness.
"Let's move..." Petrenko whispered to his squad.
Silently they moved forward, weapons in hand. They heard terrifying things just off the road, but no one in their right mind would examine the noises.....The squad kept moving forward, pretending they were somewhere else. At last the squad came to a factory, it seemed deserted.
"Secure the area." Petrenko ordered.
The squad moved silently away from each other to examine the factory. Petrenko stepped into the largest building and looked around, makeshift walkways lied above on the second floor, Petrenko could hear the rats crawling around above.
"Smaller building secure" A squad member reported over the radio.
Petrenko grabbed his radio, "Alright, wait for me outside. Viktor, secure upper level of factory."
"Understood" Viktor replied.
Petrenko heard Viktors footsteps above as the both silently moved within the factory, observing every corner.
"Holy shit!" Viktor yelled from above.
Petrenko sprinted back outside and upstairs to Viktor. Viktor stood by an open electrical panel, inside was the rotting head of a Spetsnaz soldier.
"Shit..." Petrenko said to himself.
"Everything clear in there?" Hrskiy asked over the radio.
"Yeah, all clear...." Petrenko said over the radio, "Lets get back to base...I don't think we should stay out here at night any longer."

Ten minutes later the squad came back to base. The late night Spetsnaz watches were already at positions.
"About damn time third squad!" The Platoon Sargeant yelled.
"We got held up." Petrenko replied.
"I don't care, it shouldn't take that long to patrol a straight road to the bridge. Hit the barracks after turning in your weapons." The Platoon Sargeant ordered.

Petrenko had finally returned his weapon for the day and moved to the barracks. Alpha platoon and forth squad were already sleeping, while the guard sat in the next room stared at the television.
"Alright, lets get some-" Petrenko was cut off by the alarms ringing.
The soldiers all leapt up and quickly clambered into their combat armour. Petrenko followed the others outside to find a horde of zombies coming from the far Cordon. Apparently the lone zombie in the woods earlier wasn't alone, and had followed Petrenko and Viktor back to base.
"Shit! Combat positions!" the First Sargeant yelled, storming out of his shack.
Everyone was running about trying to get a good position as the zombies slowly approached the base. Petrenko crouched as the zombies began blind firing into the base, hitting several soldiers with lucky shots.
"They're armed! Take cover! Where is the god damn MG?" The First Sargeant yelled, ducking as a round hit the wall behind him.
The soldiers fired into the horde, knocking them down or only slowing them down. Petrenko fired his Makarov and hit one in the head, the liquid brain flowed from the zombies skull as it flew backwards. One of the zombies fell over as a zombie in an exoskeleton shoved everything in it's path. It wielded a large PKM MG.
"I think I found your MG!" Tyrokl yelled to the First Sargeant.
"Oh Fuck!" The First Sargeant yelled, running back into his shack and locking the door.
The soldiers opened fire on the zombie with the PKM and exoskeleton, finally the lumbering zombie took a shot to the head and fell backward, spraying shells as it fell, killing several other zombies in the process.
"Hold your fire! Hold your god damn fire!" The CO yelled from behind his cover. Everyone stood up and examined the field of death, several zombies still lived, rolling around on the bloody ground.
"Secure the area. Kill the injured." The CO yelled as the company ran out and carried off the dead.

Chapter 5

Petrenko woke up the next day to Drill Sargeant Kolesk banging a flash light against the metal trash cans. Everyone leapt from their bunks and snapped to attention.
"Alright! Listen up people!" Kolesk yelled, "Today we will be making a little visit to the Agroprom Research Institute. Apparently the local 'Duty' faction has been stiring up some trouble, we will be showing them what happens when they do things they are not supposed to. Fall out!"
Kolesk left the barracks and the soldiers clambered into their BDUs after hitting the showers. The platoon fell in outside the base and waited for the CO to give them their orders.
"At ease!" The CO ordered, "I want first and second squad with Kolesk, you will be moving to Agroprom. The rest of you will remain here to defend the Cordon. Fall out."
Everyone silently moved to their designated objectives, lucky for Petrenko he was to defend the base. He moved back into the barracks with third and forth squad and climbed into their combat uniforms. Petrenko pulled on his helmet and moved outside to the barrier. Not many dared come near the base, what with the landmines, heavy MG, and well trained soldiers, but there was the occasional stalker which wanted to test their skills.
"Enemy approaching! Defensive positions!" The MG squad leader yelled.
Everyone crouched behind cover and kept their eyes on the lone stalker coming from the rookie camp, not knowing of the mine which was only a few feet away from him. A violent explosion shook the trees as the stalker stepped on the mine.
The soldiers rose from their cover and observed the horizon for anymore activity.
"Clear!" Petrenko yelled, lowering his binoculars.
"Understood!" Someone yelled from the east lookout tower.

3 Hours Later, 12:48 PM

Petrenko was bored out of his right mind. It had been three hours of nothing. He had been staring at the bleak horizon for the entire time.
"Does this ever end damn it!?" The man beside Petrenko said.
Petrenko layed his rifle on the sandbag, "It seems not...."
"I wish Kolesk would get back soon. Then we might be able to do something other than stand here doing nothing. Names Viktor Kirill by the way." Viktor said.
Petrenko was about to speak as the roar of a chopper rang in the soldiers ears. They all took cover as it plummeted over the horizon, smoke rising from the rear engines, and crashing behind the Cordon base.
"Shit!" Petrenko yelled, standing up from his cover.
"What the hell!" The CO yelled, storming out of his nearby shack, "Report!"
One of the squad leaders yelled down from the west watchtower, "That was Kolesks chopper!"
The CO tossed his Vodka bottle to the ground, "Damn it! Second squad, grab some ammo and head towards the crash site! ASAP!"
Petrenko and the rest of second squad grabbed some extra ammo and ran behind the base, down the road in the direction of the far Cordon. Petrenko watched the treeline as the squad traversed the road, finally, the chopper wreck came into view. Dead bodies littered the ground.
"Search the wreckage! Rescue any survivors!" The squad leader ordered.
Petrenko pulled away debris and metal, and faces of the dead stared up, burnt or mutilated.
"We got a live one!" Someone yelled.
Petrenko leapt over a large fire and saw the squad medic lying Sargeant Kolesk down on the nearby grass. He was covered in blood and cuts, mumbling to himself.
"He's in shock." The medic reported.
The squad leader took a deep breath and thought for a moment, "Bring him back to base. Squad, patrol the area."

Petrenko and the soldier from base, Viktor, moved into the trees, searching the area.
"This is bullshit." Viktor finally said as they moved past a radiactive patch of land, "Can't believe they send me here..."
Petrenko sat down on a rock, "I know. I signed up to defend my country, not go on some crusade in the zone."
"Agreed! Well, let's continue our patrol for nothing. We don't want to have the wrath of the CO." Viktor said, shouldering his Enfield L85.
Petrenko lifted his Famas assault up and began moving through the forest, keeping his eye on the gieger counter, and looking out for the random anomolies.

About half an hour later Petrenko and Viktor came across a lone soldier mumbling in the woods, standing by a highly radiactive 'Death Truck'.
"Shhhh!" Viktor whispered, holding Petrenko back, "He's a zombie...Brain dead as they get."
Petrenko crouched and observed the zombie, it limped around in circles, it's gas mask torn. Slowly it began to walk towards Petrenko and Viktor, attempting to shoot the empty AK 74u which it held in its hands.
"All squads at the Cordon, return to base. ASAP."
Petrenko and Viktor silently ran off back to base.

It even says in the SoC Encyclopedia that the Spetsnaz conduct search and rescue missions. Not to mention the Spetsnaz are already in the zone, as also seen in SoC.

Why would CSKY conscript him? As seen in game, most of the other factions want the military dead.

Chapter 4

"What do you mean 'The horror isn't over?'" Petrenko asked.
"Just wait damn it!" The medic yelled.
It was not even half a minute later till someone, or something, began pounding at the door, horrible growls came from the other side.
"What the hell...." Petrenko said to himself.
All of a sudden the door swung open, but nothing came in.....The growls died away. Silently the group moved out of the basement and into the house, there were deep scratches in the walls and door, as if some wild beast was in the house.
"Clear." The Clear Sky member said.
Suddenly a horrifying scream came from the basement.
"Misha!"
The three men ran to the basement to find a horrifying creature sucking the blood from Mishas lifeless corpse, it looked up at the three men, became invisible and lunged out of the crack in the wall.
"What the fuck was that thing!?" Petrenko yelled.
"We call it a bloodsucker....Bastard." Petrenko heard a gun load from behind him, turning around Petrenko saw the two Clear Sky men aiming their weapons at him.
"On the ground militant scum!" The medic yelled, just before slamming the butt of his AK 74 into Petrenkos face.

9:23 PM

Petrenko awoke in a small building. It was half flooded and the light above flickered, casting shadows on the walls. He tried pulling the ropes which bound him to the rusted chair free, but to no effect, he wasn't going anywhere. A few minutes later he heard footsteps outside the small, wooden building, the door swung open and a hooded man strided inside.
"You! Your kind are not welcome here....This is Clear Sky territory." The hooded man said.
"Who are you?" Petrenko said, ignoring the mans previous statement.
"Me? I am of no importance, but your kind calls me Troll." Troll said.
"Troll? What kind of god damn name is that?"
"You will regret coming here soldier, I think you had better pray I make the mistake of making your death quick." Troll took out a switchblade and held it to Petrenkos throat.
"Fuck you! Come on, kill me!" Petrenko said, spitting at Troll.
"Basta-" Troll was cut off as an explosion came from outside, gunfire rang from all around. Troll pocketed his blade and pulled out a P90 before venturing outside the building.
"Help!" Petrenko yelled.
Suddenly Troll flew through the wooden wall, landing in the water. The door swung open and a group of Spetsnaz stormed inside, releasing Petrenko and giving him a weapon.
"Come on! We're getting out of here!" One of the Spetsnaz yelled, handing Petrenko Trolls P90. The group, now including the unarmoured Petrenko, ran out of the building. They were in a half sunken town within the marshes, just like before, one would not know where they are without a guide. They finally came across a group of Clear Sky approaching from a large forest, they were armed with only AK 74u's and simple, civilian rifles.
"Spread out." The Spetsnaz leader ordered.
Silently, the Spetsnaz and Petrenko moved to the reeds, they attached silencers to their weapons and went prone, the Clear Sky patrol went by, not knowing of the danger which was the Spetsnaz......Three silent pops....Three dead men.
"Regroup!" The Spetsnaz leader ordered.
One by one the soldiers gathered around on the path and awaited their orders, while Petrenko was covered with dirt, not having the slightest clue as to what was happening.
"Alright men, head to the EVAC site, I'll inform our soldier here."
The Spetsnaz saluted just before rushing into the reeds.
Petrenko put his weapon on safety and shouldered it, "What the hell is going on?" He asked.
"We're rescuing you. My name is Evgeniy, me and my squad recieved orders to rescue the two squads sent in this morning.....Are you the only survivor?" Evgeniy asked.
"Yessir." Petrenko said.
"Damn. You are one lucky son of a bitch! I've seen what some of these locals do to our guys.....Not pretty." He exclaimed.
Petrenko nodded, "I'm just glad you showed up when you did...I thought I was dead."
Evgeniy nodded in agreement, "Indeed....Enough chit chat though. We have to get moving. EVAC is only half a mile away."

About five minutes of jogging later, the two men arrived next to the rest of the Spetsnaz where a chopper sat waiting.
"Inside people! You know the drill!" Evgeniy yelled as the Spetsnaz and Petrenko moved inside the chopper.

One hour later

At last the chopper touched down in the base at the location known as 'Cordon'. As Petrenko stepped out he was relieved to see trees and grass. He moved towards the commanding officer on base who stood leading PT behind the barracks. Evgeniy ran over to the CO and whispered something to him, the CO nodded and approached Petrenko, examining a piece of paper.
"Petrenko, Yuri? Correct?" He asked.
"Yessir."
"Sent in this morning?" He asked.
"Yessir."
"Are you injured?"
"No sir." Petrenko replied.
The CO looked at him and nodded, "It's been a long day for you soldier. Hit the barracks after you get you evaluation from the base medic."
"Yessir!" Petrenko said.
"Fall out."

Chapter 3

Petrenko carried the injured Misha through the swamps, there was no cover whatsoever in the swamps, and the skies above grew darker with every passing minute. Finally, Petrenko saw a small house just over the next wooden bridge.
"Stay here buddy, I'm going to check it out." Petrenko said, lieing Misha on the wet ground.
He moved from cover to cover, Makarov in hand until he reached the house. Lights came from within the windows, and voices echoed into the swamps. Slowly Petrenko snuck onto the porch and pushed the door open, the house was like an armoury. RPGs, Soviet era rifles, and NATO weapons stood against the walls, the ammo stuffed into cabinets. Petrenko hugged the wall and moved silently towards the voices coming from the next room, peaking within he saw three men in blue camo sitting at a table.
"Don't fucking move!" Petrenko yelled as he came out from his cover, aiming his pistol at the men, "Put your hands in the air! Now!"
The men dropped their packs and weapons and rose their hands into the air.
"Who are you people?"
No answer.
"Don't make me ask again..."
No answer. Petrenko took aim and squeezed the trigger, the 9x18 mm round piercing through one of the mens heads.
"Now, who wants to answer my question?" He asked, taking aim yet again.
No answer.
Petrenko sighed, "One...Two....Thr-"
"We are Clear Sky members! Please! Don't shoot!" One of the men yelled.
"Do any of you have medical training?" Petrenko asked.
"Y-Yes" One of the Clear Sky members stuttered.
"Excellent. Go outside and bring my friend inside. Try anything, and your friend dies."
The man nodded and ran outside. Petrenko aimed his Makarov at the other man still inside, "Sit down!"

Finally, the other man returned with Misha, he layed him down and pulled a medical kit from his pack.
"Can you help him?" Petrenko asked.
"Yes, but we have no anesthesia, it will hurt." The man said.
"Do it!" Misha groaned.
"As you wish." The medic grabbed the metal shard and yanked it out, he motioned for Petrenko, "Keep pressure on the wound." He opened up the kit and pulled out bandages and a roll of wire.
"Wire?" Petrenko asked, looking at the roll of wire the medic sat on the table.
"It's all we have in the marshes, no fancy military equipment here."
Petrenko looked away as the medic began stitching the wound with the wire, slowly pulling it through the large cut as Misha screamed in agony.
"God damn..." Petrenko said to himself.
"Ok....Stitches applied, all he needs now are the bandages." The medic said, applying the bandages to the wound. After the procedure was done Misha was taken upstairs to a bed, where he would rest.

Three hours later, 2:45 PM

Petrenko looked out the window and noticed the rain start to pour down, the sky gradually becoming a light red, "What is going on?" He asked the two men.
"An emission is approaching, we may want to move downstairs." One of the men said.
"Fine, move Misha down there, remember...No funny buisness." He said.

After Misha was taken down to the basement, the two Clear Sky men and Petrenko grabbed some gear and moved into the basement, locking the door behind them.
"Why are you locking the door?" Petrenko asked.
"You haven't been here long, have you?" The medic asked as the ground began to shake, "You'll see soon enough."
They all crouched as the wind roared and the very ground shook at the tremendous force of the emission. The house began to shake as a wave of radioactive air swept across the Zone....All of a sudden it became pitch black and deathly silent.
"Is it over?" Petrenko asked as light came back to the earth.
"No..."
Another roar came, this one even louder than before, followed by yet an even more powerful blast of energy....Then it was silent.......
"It's over." The other Clear Sky man said, standing up.
"Well lets open the damn door!" Petrenko exclaimed.
The man looked over his shoulder, "The emission is over, but the horror isn't...."

A Soldiers Story

Chapter 1

Yuri Petrenko slammed against the brick wall, firing blindly from his hiding spot. The rain came down hard, and all Petrenko could hear was the rain pelting on his helmet, drowning out all sounds around him.
"Private Petrenko! Flanking manuever on the enemy! We'll cover you!" Ordered Sargeant Tskovi.
Petrenko nodded and sprinted away, moving from cover to cover, it was then he had a clear shot on the enemy.
"G-Night" Petrenko said, sqeezing the trigger several times, knocking the enemy to the ground.

"Hold your fire!" The speakers boomed as spotlights illuminated the training ground, the speakers boomed to life again, "Bravo squad, this is twice in a row you have been taken off guard by the enemy. You are all dead. Congratulations!"
The soldiers from bravo got up and rubbed thier bruises.
"Damn you alpha! You bastards got us twice now." Bravos CO yelled.
Sargeant Tskovi yelled back, "If it wasn't for Petrenko here, we wouldn't have been as successful."
"Thank you sir!" Petrenko yelled, jumping over his cover.

"Company, Attention!"

Everyone snapped to attention as the familiar voice of Major Ruslan echoed across the training ground.

"At ease!" Ruslan ordered, "Bravo Platoon! You had no cooperation on the field. If that were a real battle, you would all be dead! Until you learn how to cooperate during an exercise you will receive double PT. Fall out!"
Bravo fell out and jogged away into the darkness, all that remained was Alpha platoon.
"Alpha, back to base! Double time! Petrenko, come here for a moment." Ruslan ordered.
Petrenko quickly snapped to attention in front of Ruslan.
"At ease soldier. I presume you have heard of the recent emmisions coming from the Chernobyl NPP? Well we need as many good soldiers as we can get in the Zone."
Petrenko knew of this place, it was cursed in his opinion. He remembered a month ago an entire company from his base left for Chernobyl, after one week contact was lost, "Sir, I know of the place."
"Good, because that is where you are going. You will be going with other select men, our boys need reinforcements.
"Sir, why must I have this job?" Petrenko asked, his voice cracking with fear.
"Consider it a duty to your country. You will be shipped out tommorow morning. Fall out." Ruslan said, walking away and leaving Petrenko alone in the dark night.

Chapter 2

Petrenko woke up early the next morning along with a good two dozen soldiers from other companies on base. They hit the showers, got dressed into their military combat armour and moved outside into the cold morning air where two choppers were being prepped for lift off. It was then Ruslan stepped out of a chopper.
"At ease! Alright men. Some of you know why you are here, others may not. You are all being shipped to the Zone....Chernobyl."
Ruslan took a deep breath before continuing.
"Our boys their need reinforcements. You happen to be the best of the best, so you are the lucky bastards who get to visit the beautiful zone. Your orders are simple: Find the outpost at the 'Cordon' and eliminate any locals you see. Good luck soldiers, you'll need it."

One by one the soldiers moved onto one of the two choppers. Petrenko didn't know what to think, was the zone really as bad as he thought? Was it truely cursed? All these answers would be answered, he knew it.
"Hey!....Hey!" Someone yelled.
"Shut the fuck up Semyon! No one wants to hear your shit." Another yelled back.
"No really guys! Semyon yelled over the roaring of the chopper as it slowly rose from the ground, "This zone, they say it is cursed. It is supposed to be a place of great evil. All who go there.....Never return."
People began scoffing at the idea of this 'Zone' being cursed.
"Yeah, it's cursed alright. You get shit television and hardly any reception." The man beside Petrenko said.
"This 'ain't a damn vacation Kesha."
"Chill Misha. I am kidding.....Dumbass." Kesha said.

Two hours later

Petrenko finally snapped awake to a large explosion.
"What the hell!" Someone yelled.
"Shit! Alpha teams chopper is down!" The pilot yelled, "Damn! RPG, 11 o' clock! Brace yourself!"
No one had time to brace themselves as the missile struck the left side of the chopper, several men got flung out of the chopper as it swung around in the air, quickly plummeting to the ground below. Petrenko didn't have time to react as the chopper hit the ground, knocking him unconcious.

Several Hours Later, 11 AM

Petrenko awoke lying on wet ground, he stood up and saw smoke rising in the distance....The chopper. Petrenko picked up his pack and looked inside, his Akaban was demolished, all he had left was his useless Makarov. Petrenko limped through tall reeds and shallow water till he reached the crash site. Moving closer to the chopper he saw dead bodies lying around, no one made it. He searched the site and didn't find anything useful, all the ammo and weapons were crushed or damaged beyond repair, it was then he heard someone coughing from the nearby reeds.
"Hello?!" Petrenko yelled.
"*Cough* Over here..."
Petrenko pushed some reeds out of his way and saw Misha lying on the ground, a piece of metal lodged in his stomach.
"Damn..." Petrenko whispered, heaving debris from Mishas body, "Come on, there has got to be some cover in these swamps..."
