Argument for Stalkers having robust social lives in (bastardized) standard form:

Premises:

1. Roadside Picnic is an inspiration for Stalker's world

a. Things that are inspirations are often relevently similar

b. Things that are relevently similar share certain properties
i. Things that share properties are analogous to a certain extent

2. Roadside Picnic had a lot of different relationship dynamics for Stalkers

a. In roadside picnic, stalkers had personal contact with other stalkers

b. In roadside picnic, stalkers had personal contact with scientists

c. In roadside picnic, stalkers had romantic relationships

d. In roadside picnic, stalkers had families

Conclusion:

Therefore, Roadside Picnic shows us that is it possible for Stalkers to have a fuller social life than 'blam blam.'

Here is a more concise way of phrasing it:

Maybe, Roadside Picnic has some relationships between stalkers and stalkers and between stalkers and their day-job science collegues, and they seemed plausible enough.

I think the relationship between two basic stalkers would be one of, "Hey, he's got stuff I could sell!" *Blam Blam* so-on and so-forth. Clans have rivals and probably ally clans, but other than that, all stalkers will probably be hostile. There might be certain areas similar to towns like scientist camps where stalkers can openly interact, trade, etc. They probably got guards so if someone makes trouble they will mow em down. Still, it would be cool to meet friendly stalkers who just want to trade or something... then after you check out his stuff you shoot him in the back. (No honor among theives, right?)

A couple times during fights, the ai shouts something that sounds sort of like 'something
muskatina something'

Can any russian speakers translate what it's saying there ?

Oh I have no fantasies of real conversation or anything really dynamic.

It was more a question of ai chatter being pure scripted (ie, talking about
the weather N minutes after it storms) or context dependant (ie, ai having
memory of past encounters, stalkers Andrey and Aleksandr mention their
old clanmate Dmitri when passing the place where he was killed)

I guess a question is: in the latest video,is the fireside chat betweeen
the stalkers just scripted for interest, or do they actually talk some
when the player is close enough to hear them

I guess that awnsers my question. I was certainly hoping for detailed unscipted relationships, but I guess the AI today probably isn't advanced enough for that.
---END QUOTATION---

We're decades away from anything like that. The only relationship you'll have with AI will be strictly generated by you, in the form of some kind of fondness for some arbitrary character.

---QUOTATION---

I do wonder, though.. in the movies shown thus far, there is some chatter
between the AI stalkers. The original four videos have a lot of the same
phrase repeated ('break left' or 'eat lead' in russian I guess).

The later, longer gameplay videos show chatter too.. I wonder how much
the bots will actually chat at eachother and how much variety there will
be (example: you are hiding in shadows at night along a patrol route for
military. As the squad walks back and forth, will you only hear the same
stuff,. or is there a little randomness to what they say)

---END QUOTATION---

'Eat Lead' and 'Break Left' are just some scripted frontend soundbyte that the AI triggers when it is making a tactical decision (ie, pulling the trigger or flanking). I would imagine that you would hear no chatter when they are just walking around, because there isn't any need for them to be communicating. However, if you do here chatter that's reflective of some recent goings on, that this is a behaviour activated by some event trigger, and that the chatter is pregenerated. The AI doesn't know what it's talking about, it's only playing some soundfile that some programmer triggers after something gets done in order to immerse you in the story. There is no relationship or social aspect to it. It's just blablablablabla. Thereby, again, any personality, intelligence or relationship you think these AI have is purely generated by your subjective appraisal of the appearance of what is happening, not by the AI itself. It's all great theatre.
