First of all accesable cfg's

The greateness of HL, HL2, UT2k4 and DOOM3 in my opinion depends a lot on ability to adjust everything important for the balance and gameplay such as:
-weapon damage values, clip capacities, pickups settings
-health values for monsters and player
-walk and run speeds
-maybe even amount of weapons you can carry simultanously (like in AVP2 SDK which was really great and allowed to change nearly everything) ... and so on
I am very dissapointed when the game I couldn't wait to play has this variables hardcoded or closed in unaccesable data files. If there is a way to acces those values I can tweak the gameply the way I would like it to be, and make the game a lot more fun. I especially hate games where you have to place a whole clip capacity in enemy to see him die (unless it's a big enemy). I also like to walk realy slow and sneak. But of course I can't demand it just becouse I like it. Maybe somone else would rather play it Q3 style (I for example spent two days in UT2k4's SDK and make it almost delta force and enjoyed sneaking and "one hit dying" with my similarly twisted LAN fellows). But there is a simple (I hope) way to solve this. Just give us the access to some values, am I right?

Hey, nice point!! Yeah, I agree, that will make the game fun. Problem is, some ppl don't like that, demands a selective audience. Plus, there are always cheaters.....

I think they should make everything as hard-coded as possible, and they should keep these values monitored by the server. I think that the server should also be the final common arbitrator of these values.

I think that anything you do in terms of mods should be kept as seperate mods.

I would prefer to keep things the way they are. I'm not much for mods except DoD.

The more flexibility, the better.

Until the law is passed saying you HAVE to play mods, you don't.

For the rest of us that want to, it's cool to have the option.

If people wanted to say increase weapons damage. Lets say that an army trooper takes 5 hits in the chest to kill. Some people would rather have this as 2 hits.

They should be able to tweak the weapons damage and stuff like that if they want to.

This doesn't mean that their guns will be twice as powerful in multiplayer! Simply they play the single player the way THEY want to.

What he was saying is that just because YOU don't want to increase weapons damage (or anythign else) doesn't me HE shouldn't be able to. If everything is hardcoded there is no way to change anything or make cool mods which extend the lives of games.

HL is the most played online FPS, if you count ALL of its mods that is. While you might not like CS you cannot deny its success. Were it not for the open coding of the original HL game CS would've never been made.

Its possible that the 'next big thing' might be a S:SoC mod. It would be a shame to prevent this becase the game is unmodable.

Guys don't worry about the cfg's. All the game are coming out with cgfs that u can modify. No company would be stupid enough to lock all the fatures out.

1c Maddox games has made everything hard coded, so NOONE may modify ANYTHING about il2, Forgotten Battles, Aces or Pacific Fighters, and I'm sure the upcoming Battle of Britain will be the same. And guess what?

No cheating.. none online... ever.

The only way someone can cheat on that game is by using some kind of processor clock speed software, but this rise in clock time is detectable, and so it has been filtered out...

and so, no cheating. Is that stupid?

No cheating = good. The speed hackers in CS:S really p*ssed me off.
