If the gameplay is anything like I've seen in that bloodsucker video, it'll take a clip's worth of brain shots to put a controller down!

I don't get you fools. You complain that you want realism out of what is essentially a zombie game, and then you worry about 'what if the controller is too difficult to kill?' I mean, in reality, you don't freaking look for a way to cross in the front of a downed high-tension powerline. Getting through the area around it would be HARD. You only mess with it if you're equipped for it. Most normal people AVOID death this way. In the same way, if you're not equipped to deal with a threat in this game, considering the vast and nonlinear nature of the zone, I think you should just AVOID the telepathic death machine. You don't get experience for killing it. If it's not sitting on an artifact you need, I don't see any reason to risk your neck to confront it.

i desagree with you, lets see.. the controller is a mutant.. is more like an animal than a human... i think he couldnt be compared with a human at all... so, as an animal he cant have compasion for his victims.
So if he control ppl and then they become zombies coz the controller destroy his minds. why it would be diferent with you? you are just a body like many others, why he would leave you free... he needs you to use you and if he cant use you then he kills you or destroy your mind to make you a zombie. He uses zombies to keep his zone free of visitants, when a zombie see soomething he send a message to the controller and they will do nothing till the controller give the order. So, more zombies more perimeter controled and more defenses he have,
so i dont think he could comet the pleasure of leave you free.

Rrright, well, there could be a variety of reasons that you would live, you arent dead yet, meaning u have a mind, a mind that lives, you could possibly have a strong mind, i dunno, but you are a living being and one thing i forgot to mention was a way to determine whther you live or continue to stay under control (die), a mini game soughtof thing, where once you are under control you go through all the screaming and hullucination etc etc, then you blank out, taking you to a short but very hard mini game...the difficulty of this mini game depends on the condition your player was in when you blacked out (if you has crap all health and were basically dead neway, the game would be extremely hard to beat, and vice-versa), in this mini game, you would have to do something, something like, kill all the enemies in a place, (small room or something) before they kill you and if you manage to kill them you might have to go to another mini game (depending on the difficulty) and the next mini game might require you to kill 1 enemy or several enemies only using a knife, i could go on about mini games for ages, but the last mini game would be like a labrynth, a complex escape route, which means you would have to find the door out (the white light, which saves your life and you wake up after a few days or watever) this door will eitehr be a dark door with darkness behind it, a door that has bright red behind it, or a room with a bright white light..the red one leads to another mini game, the black one leads to death, the white one leads to life...
Just imagine it, it could be a game in itself, gosh even us map makers could do stuff like that if we wanted....depending on the resources and options available in the editor.

I think when GSC says that the controller destroys your mind, they mean it. It's destroyed, meaning no longer existent, meaning no longer living.

Holy fucking off topic, batman. To coin a phrase, "stop smoking crack and go to english class."

English class not only teaches you to write coherent sentences with punctuation... no, it also allows you to read topic titles! That's right! READ as well as WRITE!

Yeah I think most of their problems were AI related. I mean they probably have the game all set-up. The missions are ready and implemented. The world is done probably. I think that once the AI is done the release is imminent. If they don't fix the AI problem by Fall then they are having some serious problems. Problems that could ruin Stalker.

Indeed.

IMO the Controller only needs to be beatable, not ballanced.
Remember HalfLife, and how there was this big, nasty, flame-throwing monster called a Garg?

A Garg - for those that dont know - had flame-throwers for hands, and could kill a 100/100 player within seconds. What's more is that they were immune to any non-explosive damage. This means that you had to use all of your:
1 Hand Grenades
2 SMG Grenades
3 Rockets
4 Non-zoomed (and thus explosive) Crossbow bolts.
[5 Tripwires]
[6 Satchels]

In order to even slightly damage it. Otherwise, you just had to run away from it's flame thrower hands and it's feet, since it was way slower then you were. So, the Controller is Stalker's "Garg". Just figure out what tactics work/dont work against the Controller when you fight him, and keep testing for weaknesses with different things. Who knows, he could move very slowly, allowing you to out-run him. Or, his "zombify" attack could be very short ranged (making melee suicide) Or even a simple knife-stab into his spine could kill him instantly.
It might not even like radiation much, making the Tomb - ironically - a safer place then it seems to be.

And surely, with all the weapons you've been given, and the possible alliances with other Stalkers, you could easilly out-gun and out-man a Controller.

See it like this, the controller uses psi forces to his advantage.
That means, whenever you are visible to him, he can use his powers on you. Devs has said that the controller destroys your mind right? But.. He can also control you, like this.

You see a controller and being unlucky as you always are, the controller sees you! He goes into your brain leaving you like a zombie, but that's not it. Since he can do whatever he wants now, he places inn an open field, after a while. Tons of zombies comes to, waiting to get they're dinner served.

So the controller being a "little" powerfull, can be kinda neat, if you like hard enemies, and like to use tactics.
