Which version of NS to play?

Been a few years since I've played stalker, and have been wanting to play various NS variants ("standard", DMX, StalkerSoup, JP1, JP2) and wanted to get back in. Which of these is the best translated? I know the newer ones have more stuff but I would sacrifice newness for a better translation (within reason) as long as its vaguely stable.

Bonus question: what other mod is well translated and good?

JP1 has a native translation by AchillesDave. JP2 has more stuff but the translation i believe not as complete. Both highly stable. Off hand, for other translated mods there
Is photograf, return of scar, way to pripyat, and secret trails 2 all with excellent native translation by grunter hunter and stalkerstein.

Hope that helps.

Thank you! I am trying out JP2 and the translation seems decent for now (compared to what I have dealt with before). What is the difference between JP1 and JP2? I have AA2 ENB working with JP2 somehow and the loading times are absurdly short for an NS mod. A full understandable translation would be awesome but if JP2 has a ton more features/stability I would be ok with it (theres almost no chance I will ever finish these mods because of the time involved)

JP2 has not only made modifications (additional side quests) to JP1 it has also added quite a few new and very long interrelated story threads.
If you are familiar with NS and JP1, even with the poorer translation, it is quite playable. It is very long, very hard and very complex and requires you to develop a finesse in climbing, jumping and searching ... apart from the standard FPS factors. The guide at stalker-worlds.ru (and other sites) is very useful and very necessary to get through the game .. I find.

JP2.1 is in the works and should be released in the next month or so. It will have 64 locations, a refurbished X-ray engine and a few small additional quests (as I understand) ... but mostly it will be a new canvas to allow new developers to expand and enhance the existing game.

@Achillesdave has cleaned up the translation a bit but it still needs a lot of work .. best left (IMO) for the new version at this point.

There are lots of players in the GSC NS Cumulative Pack 2 forum that can help you along the way. Best advice is that if you decide to play JP2, don't rush, think strategically and tactically, don't kill key NPCs (even if they are enemies) because they have key roles through the game and don't just sell everything ... a lot of the stuff will be needed as you go. Savour the game .. it is not a standard linear FPS.

Thanks! I have definitely played a version of NS that you translated (many years ago) but I have never gotten farther than Yantar or AW in any NS mod (replayed them so many times). I guess my next question is, should I wait for 2.1 or just start up 2.0 and go from there? Maybe one day I will finish one of these mods...

Same here. I always get so fixated on the side quests or collection quests that I never get too far in game. Then I end up taking a break to do other things and just restart it when I come back. I don't see why you can't start with 2.0. I could be wrong, but 2.1 seems to be more of a "canvas" for future developers to add on to.
