To the Dez0wave storyline author....

I have been trying to understand the storyline and I sort of get the basic idea, though not very clearly. However, there are certain parts that appear to make no sense at all. I wonder if someone can offer some clarification on some things.

When you first enter Darkscape and 'accidentally' wander into the realm of Sin you are given an explanation of who and what they are, and how they came to be. Having a sympathetic bent, you agree to help them.

You take documents from the bandit base and risk your life having to fight them off. You then again risk your life fighting the Monolith in order to gain access to X18 to obtain further documentation and computer records for them. Then they ask you to go to Rostock Factory and again risk your life obtaining further information from another secret laboratory. You do all of this without qualm or argument, feeling that they have been very badly mistreated and wanting to do anything you can to help. You prove yourself to be a real friend to them.

Later, at the request of Voronin, you enter yet another secret lab in order to disable a device causing earthquake-like rumblings which threatens widespread destruction. This you do willingly, being the local superhero.

Whilst inside this lab, if you are even slightly distracted and walk around a particular corner too quickly, you are met by a Sin assassin who kills you. This is a major problem. Why? What on Earth is going on here? You could not have been more helpful to these people without having been there years earlier and rescued them from the scientists who were experimenting on them. So why do they suddenly send out an assassin to kill you? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Did the storyline author suffer some kind of brainfart at this point, and utterly forget the earlier parts of the story? Did the original author die, and was replaced by some loon who didn't even bother to read the earlier parts? Did the author have no concept of how to put a story together and just threw in any old idea he felt like whenever he felt like it?

A storyline is not a storyline without consistency. That is definitely not consistent. So what the hell is it supposed to be?

The assasin isnt part of the sin group as far as I understood it.
This cutscene at the swamp showed that he is the agent of some secret organisation (C-Con ??).

The most confusing part for me is why Sin (I assume it was Sin) attacked the Bar.

Surely if they're capable of walking directly into the Bar, disabling everyone, and walking out with whatever the hell they want, why exactly do they need me to do anything for them at all?

With that kind of ability they should be lords of the Zone, not hiding in a cave.

One point about that scene has a similar hypocrisy to the whole CoP 'Put your gun away!' thing. The Duty guards search the guy for weapons and go into a panic because he has a grenade. I walk around with 10 grenades on me, and a knife, an assault rifle, a pistol and plenty of ammo. So do the dutyers. So does every other Stalker in the bar.

With his odd eyes, his facial scars and his brown 'duster' coat, he certainly looks like one of the Sin.

He is the Sin spy.
Same one that shadows throughout the game.
The same one that "beams up" in Yantar if you get too close and also shows on the map as a yellow dot (but stealthed, like a trader) if you run the underground there.
I've not yet managed to snipe the sucker because he "beams out" as soon as you scratch him. Wasn't always that way; in 1.30013 he could show up dead on the Mil compound roof. I suppose they fixed that with fixing the plot..

To "clarify" proceedings, Des did at one point state that the 'Swamps scene' was to be cut from future releases. Imho that will totally cock the plot up as there will be no early reveal of a spy in your environs.

Noobs will be totally mystified.

Mr Sin spy reappears at the other "good" ending if you acquire all "enlightered" documents / infoportions. This slightly clarifies matters if you consider your very first original storyline task on waking in Sid's bunker, but not really - since that task was , well , failed...

Brainfart. I LIKE that !!
I think some dev muttered " Let the Zone take me i "
(and it obliged)

The Sin Spy would have been better if it was Scar.

Tie it into Clear Sky in a way. Scar gets you there. You're being followed by him throughout Lost Alpha, or are you? Maybe it's just a figment of your imagination after being sucker punched by the C-Con.

the assassin has nothing to do with sin faction. if you play till the end, and you discover the secrets (find all hidden data on computers or in books about whats going on) you will see the cutscene and will hear the explanation.

even though lost alpha is a w.i.p. game, we had plans to create unique model for the assassin for very long, but could not find anyone who wanted to join us and create new npc models, so we used a modified sin skin. its just not the best, I know, but life is life.

So he has nothing to do with Sin???

In X7 where he appears as the 'hollow suit' cutscene, if you reactivate your ingame hud and train your marker on him, he shows an ID that belongs to the Sin faction.

Earlier, in Yantar, where he's standing on the Mil Base, looking at the player with his field glasses, you can look back and get the same "Sin" handle on him.
All you had to do was assign him to the 'Stranger' faction and there wouldn't be any confusion. Or not as much as you want to create.

""but could not find anyone who wanted to join us and create new npc models, so we used a modified sin skin""

You have a WEALTH of ghostly Stranger individuals wandering around Generators any one of which could have fitted the bill, you even have ghostly scientists wandering around X10 and X7 for god's sake so what's this nonsense about new npc skins ?

He's marked as Sin and NOW you come and say he isn't Sin and it's because it's a WIP????????

UPDATE
From a previous gamesave in a previous 1.3003 game:

In Yantar with this creep surveiling me from the battlements of the Mil Base, where my status is Neutral 0 pts with Sin, I attempt to take this chap down from 125 meters with a half reasonable TRS 301.
I get 10+ slugs through him and see some impressive bloodsplashes (naturally - he's invulnerable), he keels over! (guess he isn't that invulnerable after all) and is promptly 'beamed out' back to the Oso.

My status with Sin is now Neutral -100 pts and it may not be healthy to go back to the Mines, not that that is an issue here.

@Dez

I really do want the Lost Alpha to succeed - preferably in a debugged version of its current form, warts and all..
But this armwaving "We wuz short of staff so we used a Sin lookalike, clone, copy, whatever bc it's a WIP and 'life is life' " (I'm paraphrasing here) is just not good enough.

The last patch was back in July 2014. You obviously read the forums so you'll be aware of the work that Henry1491 and S3rious put out, I can't use their stuff and just do cosmetic work that (hopefully) doesn't screw up the game balance of the base game.

Any one of a hundred people here could advise you for free on how/why/what is needed to make that damn spy less confusing to the player - hell! you could probably set his "faction" to 'Oso' or 'Oversight' or 'Stranger' in about half an hour YOURSELF, find some mug to playtest it for a day, and issue an interim patch (that doesn't mislead your LOYAL AUDIENCE up the garden path for six months)

Instead of which - the near silence is deafening.

Normally (as it was intended), the guy would disappear before you could interact with him, finally he does that since the 3rd patch came out in august 2014. So it does not matter what he has in his profile, it could have "lol" or "da*uq", since player should not be able to see it. But yea, I get what you mean.
