voice chat radios would be cool! you would only be able to have a pistol out when you use it! SWEET! and assuming that (like in some games) if you shoot at a person and hit their gun it doesn't do damage to the person (i.e. in Doom 3, if you shoot a zombie who has a rifle in his gun, sparks fly). then some tricksey hobbit snipers (thats right i said it) could shoot the radio out of some guys hand and it wouldn't work, so he'd have to buy a new one! or borrow the snipers...

Hands-free radios are nothing new. I doubt you're going to need a walkie talkie.

And I feel like I read about a radio that could be keyed while holding a rifle (physically) ...but maybe that was a dream.

Edit: walkie talkies are not obsolete by any means of course...but don't be to surprised if that's not what they use.

They could add several kinds of radios and walkietalkies, and make the better ones more expensive. Walkietalkies could have a longer activation time, and perhaps shorter range, while headset radios would be activated in a second, but be as expensive as a mid-sized airplane. Anyway, non-radio chat would be great if the ingame sound traveled about as far as the it would in real-life. You would be screaming into your mike every time something appears behind a teammate halfway across the room, or some pagan scum runs away.

THE BEST IDEA EVER I think

Ok, so first I'm from Canada. I'm 20, and I've been waiting for stalker forever. I know there will be a "co-op" mode in MP. GSC isn't stupid, they wouldn't ruin a game by leaving it out. What I think is that online should basically be SP. The zone, the missions, all of it. That would make for awsome games on permanent servers. But my SUPERCOOL IDEA IS: "Localized in-game voice chat" Basically instead of it being broadcasted over the entire server, your voice would be heard by those around you. If it can be done (doesn't seem hard) I think that would revolutionize ingame chat. Anyway, my idea rocks.

Well your not the only one with that idea
I thought of it when i was playing Americas Army.
It would rule to have it! but it could also be missused as in CS or something when people play musics and so on
but on serious servers it would ROCK!

i would most certiantly agree with that. Although i did mention this along time before the guy who started to happen to share his idea. But ingame voice communication is a cool thing. But it's not when you get the little 12 year olds who spam nonsense making farm noises and shit ect, I just think even to make ingame voice communication we need to have a kick system if someone is using the mic nonstop saying BS, That's if it annoys anyone.

Yeah I agree. Stupid CS kiddies, but thats why I posted the idea of the different frequencies. I dunno. I guess its not important. They're too busy ruining the game to think about putting some good stuff in.

Hehe, yeah we kinda of talked about this a while ago. My only problem is with how I've seen localised work. But it's my experience with older games so they might have fixed it but I doubt it.

My problem is the voice radius. I know some games use to have a set radius. No matter how loud or soft you spoke the sound would go out a certain distance and stop. It might fade the further you get but it had a set limit.

This led to some interesting 'features'. You could hear a change in the sound indicating someone was using local voice even though they were speaking quietly enough to not here the conversation. Just a real faint white? noise. But also if you wanted to yell a warning across a large room you couldn't do it because it was outside the local range....and yelling at home sometimes isn't reasonable while playing a game with others in the house or in close appartments.

So. My take on the idea was two keys/modes. One for normal/whispering and one for yelling/broadcasting. For both you speak normally or quietly, but the yelling mode would "pump-up" the volume to increase the range without you having to actually yell at home.

I'm sure the localised voice has improved so there is no sudden cut-off range or background give away sound, but that still would require yelling to talk to someone far away.

Of course it appears there are radios so yelling might not be needed. All depends how they function in-game.
---END QUOTATION---

That would be great, indeed.

But I'm sure that a sort of "analog/digital signal meter" on the hud to know the distance of the speaker would be realistic enough. than just a noise when the signal is low.

...but I didn't know stalker had a built-in voice chat support!!!

Is the mutliplayer going to be stealth based, abushes, single stalkers setting up anbushes for others etc or an all out frag fest?

I think the whole use the SP world for multiplayer would be really kewl, but of course, would need some mamoth dedicated servers for that
