a question for the masses:
1. a COD style FP shooter without free to move in gameworld strongly liniar and without mutants
2. equipped with life simulation and connected levels which creating a real-to-feel gameworld
3. not exactly 2. but hey, thats what modders are for
I haven't been big on a lot of the STALKER mods for Crysis - most are really lacking, IMHO. They tend to focus a lot on the visuals, and nothing on the gameplay. In essence, just an "inspired skinning" practice.
Although, there was one that caught my attention a long while back:
The guy has gone to the lenghts of modeling new objects based on those of STALKER. The screenshots and vids feel much more like STALKER than any other crysis mod I've seen so far - sadly, though, the project is in limbo . . . more than likely dead . . .
After watching all these videos and pictures... errggghhh... sorry, but I must say, that these maps and atmosphere are (for me) not anywhere near to stalker feeling, something is missing... I think these guys didn't play too much with stalker, nor captured really by the stalker world. Somehow this all is still too clean, too steril, not enough detailed and nothing mysterious in it. The almost 4 years old "crappy"soc x-ray engine beats them, if it's about abandoned, wasted and weared down eastern european environment.
Not to speak about these projects die very quickly, all seem only a modeller/skinner skill show.
