CHAPTER 11
“Empty Soul”

“Have anybody seen Bug?” Simka asked, storming into the barracks were all the soldiers were still sleeping. “What the fuck are you doing man? Its six-o-clock! We are sleeping!” one of the soldiers mumbled loudly, as he tried to get up from his bed. “Shut the hell up and answer my question!” Simka yelled in reply. “No we haven't! Now fuck off, we are trying to sleep here!” one of the soldiers yelled. He asked Rayoji and Istvan, but they didn't know either. He had looked for Bug all morning, and he couldn't find him anywhere. He remembered that he hadn't even looked in Bugs room. “god I am an idiot!” he thought. He neared Bugs room, were he started to hear someone mutter from inside. “Bug!” he yelled, while he opened the door. Bug was there, just sitting on his bed, muttering strange things. Simka noticed some weird writings on the walls, on some of them was written “It calls me” or “Must go north”. Bug was weirdly armed already. He wore his armor,
and his Pmm was holstered tight in his hands. “Bug?” Simka asked. Bug was just sitting on his bed,
as if nothing had happened. He didn't even notice Simka. “Must go north, must go north.....” Bug mumbled. Then Simka had realized what had happened. Bug was being called by the monolith. Bug
got up from his bed, and he started to walk towards the door where Simka stood. Simka quickly rushed to him, grabbing his arms while yelling. “I AM ORDERING YOU TO STOP” Simka yelled, but without reply. “Please Bug, don't you remember me? I am Simka! Your best friend! STOP!” Simka yelled once again, but Bug still continued towards the door. “Bug, STOP! The monolith is trying to get you! Can't you see it! You will get yourself killed!” Simka yelled, This time, with a reply from Bug. “You can't stop me from reaching out to the lights” Bug muttered. Simka pushed Bug backwards, bringing him to a stop. “You can't stop the monolith!” Bug yelled, with a angry, weird voice. He draw his pistol, and aimed it at Simka's chest. “NO! Bug, YOU CANT DO THIS!
I AM YOUR FRE...” Simka yelled. Then, Simka was interrupted by a loud “BANG”. Simka dumped to the floor, screaming in pain. Bug continued out of the room. Several minutes passed,
and then Rayoji entered the room. He looked at Simka with surprised eyes. “Simka! What happened!” he said, while he got Simka on his feet. “I.....i..i don't... know......b..b.b.Bug.....” Simka muttered, as he Faded away. The last thing he could hear was “MEDIC!”. He woke up in the Base's
clinic, where he were greeted by Istvan and Rayoji. Simka quickly got up. “BUG!” he yelled. He then felt a massive pain screaming inside his Body, and he quickly lay down again. “Relax Simka!
What happened?” Istvan asked. Simka hurled down a glass of water, and then continued to speak
“I don't know. I found Bug in his room. He were mumbling strange things, I bet you saw the writings on the wall. Well, he was heading to the monolith, and I tried to stop him! But he then shot me in the chest, and then continued. He had a empty look in his eyes, like if he had no soul. He didn't even remember me!” Simka explained. He felt something else, something that wasn't pain.
A weird, empty feeling grabbed his heart, and tore it out. He knew Bug was gone forever. He had went to a place where no one could save him. Several days passed since then, and Simka was left with the same feeling that he had felt some days ago. “Listen up Simka! We are going on an trip to the red forest. I thought it would maybe clear your head a little:” Rayoji said. Simka didn't really care, but he went on the trip with some other soldiers. The APC came to a stop when several bullets and a RPG round hit it. The engine was torn apart, so it couldn't move anywhere. The squad quickly ran out of the APC, seeking cover. They didn't even know who they were fighting, but they just blind fired. Simka quickly saw one of the opponents and shot him. It was one of Rustik's men.
He shot the Soldier several times in the head. The soldier fell to the ground, only to get up again, shooting at Simka. “What the heck?” Simka asked himself. He emptied his clip on the soldier,
but It just continued. “What the fuck is these guys?” one of Simka's soldiers asked. “ I don't know!
They will just not die! I just emptied a whole fucking clip on one of these guys, and he is still walking!” Simka yelled in reply. Simka lobbed a grenade at the lines, sending many of the renegade soldiers flying. This time, they didn't get up again. “They are vulnerable to explosives!” Simka yelled. One of Simka's soldiers shot the enemy group with an RPG, blasting them all to smithereens. “Nice shooting Yurkoji!” Simka yelled. “Now, lets see who these bastards are” Simka muttered. He tore the gas-mask off one of the renegade soldiers, but he later wish he hadn't. The soldiers face was mutated and he looked like a corpse. With deep, infected cuts in his face, and
several bloats sticking out all over his face. Half of his face were missing, so you could see the bones and the flesh sticking out. “What in the world......” Simka muttered. The renegade soldier's body looked like the face. With deep wounds and rotten flesh. Not a pretty sight, and definitely
not a nice smell. Simka saw, that where the bullets had landed, the Flesh had simply just absorbed the bullet. “What the fuck are we dealing with?” Yurkoji asked. “I don't know, but I am almost certain that it has something to do with the monolith and Rustik” Simka replied.

CHAPTER 12
“Simka Baton”

Simka had walked for three days now. He had only slept few times, and that was only when he faded away. He have had blackouts for some days now, and they appeared just out of the blue.
He only wore a long black Trench coat, with a mounted gas-mask and he had body armor under the coat. He had no goal anymore, and he felt that he was totally useless. Still, he hadn't regret his choice about leaving UFOTZ. He had forgot about his early UFOTZ stalker life. He carried his good old trusty AK/74 with him. He had walked in the zone between the Garbage, Agroprom,Yantar, and the military warehouses. He had helped other stalkers in need, but then he had simply disappeared again. It had rained almost all day now, and it was freezing cold. Snow was falling, covering the ground more and more. As the snow fell, he thought about his Stalker life.
He had been in the Zone for two years now, and he remembered all of what he had done. He had been to Pripyat, he had helped UFOTZ, just to finally be High commander and then leave.
He remembered something, that was blurry and he hadn't thought about it for some time now.
He had a hard time just remembering what it was, but then, it came to him. Vanuska. He sat down in the snow, the wind was chilly but calm. He cried silently. He fell asleep, and woke up the next day.
It was still early morning, and it was still dark. He ventured forward to god knows where, hoping to find peace from his thoughts.

CHAPTER 12 PART 2
“Valentina Baton”

“Wake up Valentina! We are there!” Oleg said while he was waking Valentina. Valentina woke up, looking at the bright sun-shine. Oleg and Valentina, and a few others had been smuggled into the Zone, as the same reason as all of the other stalkers. But Valentina had one specific reason.
Oleg was Valentina's close friend, and he had ventured into the zone with her. She was tired, and she wasn't quite at her senses. “I thought the Zone would be gloomier” Valentina muttered, as she looked at the bright sun. it was cold, and it was early morning. Valentina felt the hair on her neck raise, as she heard a horrifying scream from far,far away. Of course, Valentina wasn't that strong or had good marksman skills, but then again, there wasn't many stalkers in the zone that were strong or had good marksman skills. They arrived at the rookie village, with all kinds of people looking at them. It was the same procedure for every rookie who had just arrived to the Zone, Wolf will tell them stuff about the Zone, while Sidorovich would provide them with gear if they had the money to pay for it. Sure, there was many female stalkers in the zone, but their were about twice as much male stalkers. She was the only woman in the rookie village, and the other stalkers noticed that.
She felt the many eyes looking at her, and it was an uncomfortable feeling. It was of course not just because she was a woman, but Valentina had always had a beautiful face and body. She was kind and always open minded, and she couldn't even hurt a fly. “aye, rookies, come over here” Wolf yelled. Oleg and Valentina walked over to wolf, who started talking. “So, you are new here, right?”
he asked. Oleg and Valentina nodded in reply. “okay, here's the deal. This, is the Zone. There's not one place in the zone that's safe. You would do good remembering that. Second, watch out for all of the deadly anomalies. They can rip you to shreds in no time. Third, and this is even worse, the mutants. Those are the real danger here in the zone.” Wolf explained. Valentina had heard about the mutants down here, but she had never believed it. “number four, Only trust your comrades or people from your own faction. Number five, Artifacts. The main reason people travel down here. I bet you guys heard that the artifacts are worth millions of rubles, right? Well the sad truth is, they aren't worth anything. Maybe you can get five hundred rubles, maybe five thousand if you are lucky.
But it ain't worth risking your lives for” Wolf then said. “Wow, are there really factions down here? I thought it was everyman for themselves down here, or just few groups of people” Valentina asked
curiously. Wolf then nodded. “Yeah, ¨there are some major factions down here. First of all there is Duty, a large militarized faction. They want to destroy the zone. Then there's Freedom. They are all happy fellas on drugs, but they are fine. Their goal is to open the zone, making it a more free place. Then, there's monolith. A group of nutcases living in Pripyat. They are all crazy, so stay away from them. Although, nobody have seen them for a while now. Then there's the bandits, but they are not really a faction. They are criminal scum, that steals other stalkers artifacts and sell the stalkers as slaves. Then there is UFOTZ, a once big group, that Is focused on containing the zone. I heard they are sticking around at the garbage. They are open to help free stalkers, and they are recruiting as much stalkers as they can get. That's about it. Go see sidorovich for new weapons or suits” wolf explained. “Okay, thanks wolf” Oleg replied.

End of chapter 12.

please note, that to fully understand the story then you must read “Tales of Vasili Novikov"

“CHAPTER 13”

“So, did you think about Sidorovich's offer?” Oleg asked. “Hell no! I wouldn't sleep with a fat pig like him even if I got one million rubles for it!” Valentina replied angrily. “Why would you even ask me that? You know me better than that...” Valentina said. “No no! I just thought it would be funny to see how you would react!” Oleg laughed. “why did I even travel to the zone with you!” Valentina said, which made Oleg laugh even more. “i don't know, why did you?” he then replied. “You are such an idiot!” Valentina laughed. They sat around the bonfire in the rookie village. They had been in the zone for two weeks now. The two most important things that Wolf had told Valentina was “never say no when you get the opportunity of having fun, because “fun” didn't come cheap around the zone” and the other thing was “you need to mind your surroundings, because there's a lot of stalkers out there that would do anything to have a woman's “Service” out there”. Valentina and Oleg had encountered a guy some few days ago, that was eager to meet Valentina. He had threatened Oleg and Valentina with his rifle. Oleg was quick tough, as he punched the bastard in the face and shot him with his pistol. “So, Valentina I have been willing to ask you this, and....” Oleg asked. Valentina got her hopes up and started smiling, but she got very disappointed about Oleg's next words. “should we move to the bar at Rostok?”. Valentina's smile blended, and faded away.
“Oh yeah.... lets do that!” she said, trying not to sound disappointed. “Okay, lets go then” Oleg said.
They neared the entrance to Rostok, but they encountered a group of bandits. They were all armed with MP5s, and there were three of them. “Well hello there, stalkers” the lead bandit said.
“What do we have here? Hmm.. a normal stalker scum... and... oh my, we have got ourselves a catch guys!” the lead bandit then said. The other bandits laughed. “What do say, you give us the lady, and we will let you go without any problems, Deal?” the lead bandit asked. “NEVER!” Oleg yelled. The bandit kicked Oleg in the stomach, sending him landing on the floor. The bandits laughed. “Okay, then we will just have to execute you, then take the lady. Sounds like a good deal, Eh boys?” the bandit said. He took out his pistol, and aimed it at Oleg. “PLEASE STOP IT!” Valentina screamed. The bandit ignored it, and cocked his pistol. “You are gonna regret this, you pathetic bastard...” the bandit said no more, as he fell dead on the spot. Two stalkers wearing Exosuits jumped out from a bush, and shot the bandits. Valentina quickly got Oleg on his feet.
“Are you okay, Oleg?” she asked. “Yeah, I am fine” he replied. “Thank you so much for the help!”
Valentina said to the stalkers. “You are welcome. Killing bandits always gets us in a good mood anyways.” one of the stalkers said. The Exosuits colors were deep blue as trim, and the rest of the armor black. “Come with us to our base. Its not far from here” one of the stalkers said. Valentina and Oleg didn't have much choice. The stalkers were armed to the teeth. They followed the stalkers to a large construction site. They saw soldiers exercising in the court yard. Some of them patrolled the area, some others guarded some places. There wasn't many of them tough. One of the soldiers wore a complete black armor. It was polished lately, as it shined very much. He was watching the training of the soldiers. “Commander, we found these stalker outside the base. They were ambushed by bandits” one of the soldiers said. “Good job, Gustav” he gave a Salute and then dismissed the soldiers. “hello stalkers, who are you?” The soldier asked. “My name is Valentina Baton, and this is my friend Oleg Gesttov. You?” Valentina asked. “My name is Rayoji. I am the High commander of the UFOTZ. Your name was Valentina Baton, right?” Rayoji asked. Valentina nodded. “You shouldn't know anyone named Simka in your family?” Rayoji asked. Valentina looked at Rayoji with surprised eyes. “Yeah! That's my brother! Do you know him?” she asked, hoping that Simka was still alive. “I don't know.... he was the former High commander of UFOTZ.. then he just disappeared. We were close friends...” Rayoji said. Valentina's heart became heavy. It was certain that Simka wasn't alive.
