change leaves flying around the player

Hi

I know this is something already somewhere in this forum but thanks to the great search function I didn't find it again, so...

What is this about those annoying leaves flying totally turbulently around the actor, suggesting some sort of autumn storm taking place on the player's position? Are they particles? What controls them? How can they be modified, eliminated, or replaced by something looking better?

They are particles, using simple 4-pieced animated textures.

Open up the SDK, disable the effect and done

You mean you can only disable the effect itself, can't you replace it with some other particle or animation? Isn't there some config file for this?

What the...! Looks pretty much what we have done before. I really wonder what the work of that "reverse engineer" they are claiming to be the intellectual owner of it was. At least I can't think of a plain coincidence.

these particles are called with weather files, to understand how it works, you need to check 2 files:

check the weather files, such as weather_default.ltx and check the:

env_ambient = XXXXX

if you see something there, such as "amb_env_day", then check this file:

env_ambient.ltx and look for the "amb_env_day" section, and notice this line:

"effects = XXXXXX"

there are particle effect groups listed, such as: ae0_effect_1, _2, _3...

now scroll down to the end of the file, and check this:

[ae0_effect_1]
life_time = 7
particles = nature\fog_stormy_02
sound = ambient\rnd_outdoor\rnd_wind_2
offset = 0,0,0
wind_gust_factor = 0.0155

the "particles =" line sets the actual particle group effect, so either you remove the effects from the env_amb_day section, or change the effect to something else here (there are tornado, rain, snow, whatever effects, just run the particle editor in sdk, and you can check them)
