Not sure which mod to play.

So I played a couple of hours of Stalkersoup but I can´t take the translation anymore.
I played STALKER some years ago until I was right in front of the atomic power plant and then I stopped playing for some reason. So I´ve played most of the game already, however, I forgot much and I want the plot to actually be understandable.

Therefore the mod should feature

- NO engrish, no google translations. Seriously.
I never, ever want to see something like this again:
"Strelok. To me worthless news. The canin was lost. You has not found. In vain you one to the center have gone. However, business master´s. At whom and where you to search. I know, a phantom."

Worthless news indeed. What the fuck?

- No Russian voices in important situations, like when you come to Agroprom and the guy tells you to follow you. In stalkersoup he speaks Russian. Mole also speaks Russian etc etc, I know these guys can speak English, what do I have an English version for...

What I really like about Stalkersoup is the hardcore difficulty, the blowouts, artifact based trading etc.

Is there any mod which might satisfy me? Oblivion Lost? LURK? Another one still?

Man I wanted to like stalkersoup so much but I get brain tumors from the dialogue.

So after browsing moddb for a while I decided to try "Zone of Alienation" mod. Seems nice and has AMK retranslated included.

From what I understand, you only played Shadow of Chernobyl and did not finish it, and now you are looking for a mod ?

I would start by :
1- finishing SOC, the good ending
2- play Clear Sky
3- play Call of Pripyat

Then, try mods. At least, you would have a better background of the Stalker world.

By the way, the excerpt you took from NS was a pretty intelligible one... There is much, much worse than that, especially in the Generator map.

I don't think this mod can be finished without a guide. The only way is to speak russian and play the mod untranslated.

This is something I've disliked across all three games. Our modders do it for realism apparently but I counter that with you wouldn't go into a situation with a team you can't communicate with. I hate it and when I can I always switch the audio back to English.

I also agree you should leave the mods until you've played SHOC fully, every playthrough is different to the last, I don't think moving on to the other games matters before playing SHOC modded but for SHOC itself get to know the game first then try mods. Alright try some visual/audio tweaking mods but leave it at that. Just try it patched to 1,0005 with the ZRP mod for bug fixes.

Perhaps S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete2009 could be of interest for re-playing the game again.
As far as I remember the Complete mod keeps the Vanilla story intact, and only adds a few things, like weapon repairs, and some fixes from ZRP. There is also a gun-pack add-on which fixes/tweaks weapon stats for the Complete Mod.

It still has some untranslated news sections, the dev from AMK retranslated only translated the AMK news scripts from the English release, not the original Russian AMK release.

As a result it still has leftover stuff, like the Duty and Freedom news, and some other news, that are still in Russian.

Lobo is right, you should play STALKER COMPLETE 2009. Its aim is to be as close to vanilla as possible while correcting a few bugs and adding some features. It uses the English voices for all the important NPC events, and I think it's fixed most of the broken English present in the vanilla game and in the addons it uses. It has really nice graphical features, too.

There is a "realistic weapons" addon for it as well, to fix weapon accuracy (the accuracy in COMPLETE is terrible for most weapons). Hold on a sec while I fetch some links:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009/downloads/stalker-complete-2009-14-exe-installer

http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009/downloads/sc-realistic-weapons-add-on

If I were to start anyone out fresh on STALKER this is what I would give them.
