Spawn with an item question...

When you want a character to spawn with a specific weapon, in what file and where do you make the weapon entry? Putting a weapon in the <supplies> seems not to cause the character to have it.

it should be the <supplies> section of the npc profile in the character_desc_LEVELNAME.xml file.

but if you are trying to edit a npc that already exists, then the npc's all.spawn section may have the [dont_spawn_character_supplies] line in the spawn section. this line prevents the use of the xml file to spawn npc loadouts.

you would have to add the weapon to the [spawn] config in the custom_data section, or remove the [dont_spawn_character_supplies] line; either way you will have to recompile the all.spawn and then use that custom all.spawn in your mod.

Someone should upload a vanilla all.spawn with that line removed for people to use in there work. It would help those unfamiliar with the all.spawn and I imagine it would get a lot of use.

That's what I thought. But none of the entries I put in show up.
So I assume that you mean editing of the all.spawn is required.

What about using character_items.xml?

that wouldn't work, since those are 'included' in the <supplies> section.

which npc are you trying to edit?

I was just experimenting with a couple of the main characters.
