[PoC] Progressive weapons

The purpose is to introduce a bit of character development into the gunning part of the game.

This mod works by replacing the gun in the slot with a version with accuracy improvement dependent on player's rank.

This is a W.I.P. version (extremely untested):
http://zhat.dk/stalker/files/progressive_weapon_mod_v0.1.zip

There are a few known annoyances (e.g. mid-fight weapon swap) and most probably quite a few bugs.

EDIT: latest version can be found on my STALKER minimod page (see signature).

Can you not check if actor is engaged in a battle. Or better yet, check distance to nearest object, and if that object is an enemy, then wait to change weapons.

Damn those bugs

PS: I sent you the latest revision. Getting close now

I'm thinking about either:
1) waiting with the swap until gun is holstered
2) not swapping until level change or game load

Some other annoyances worth mentioning:
1) the gun-to-slot and gun-from-slot-to-backpack operations both cause a new gun to be spawned, the old one destroyed and the new one updated - this takes a couple of frames and looks a bit funny e.g. because the gun moved from slot shortly appears back in the slot
2) when gun is swapped out the selected fire mode is not preserved (any ideas?)
3) the mod can't be automerged by SMM with mods that customize weapon. You must use the merge procedure described in the readme.

Now something that's fully intentional (and gameplay changing?):
the gun in the slot is set up as a quest item - i.e. you can't see it in trade and search screens. To sell or stash away the gun you must open the inventory screen and move the gun from slot to bag. This way the gun is returned to a "normal" gun and can be stashed, sold or turned in to a quest-giver for a reward.

slightly off-topic/and some random thoughts, as well as showing gratitude

love the idea!
makes sense to progress in ranks

although 1 minor detail, which may/may not have relevance:

I do find it.... how do I put it...too easy to gain ranks(?)

the fact that one can reach the top of the list, rather fast, due to that whomever is on top, doesn't have nearly as many kills as I will accumulate through the game

as mentioned this has little to do with this mod; but IMHO it would feel more rewarding if I actually had to actively fight in order to keep my rank and that it would take more time to advance

sorry for that off-topic mumbo-jumbo

anyhow, this mod will be the perfect step in merging RPG aspects (having a leveling-system) with the greatness that is ShoC

I've had a number of ideas on this as well, but since I'm not a modder, I've never thought further than wanting to implement something similar

Actually my ranking function has a hyperbolic curve so that you should (theoretically) never achieve the top accuracy because the higher your rank gets the more rank points between accuracy increase stages.
The progress is most visible at the beginning where the accuracy improves every few kills... though each upgrade is too small to notice on the accuracy bar.

By the way I'm using the incorrect terms. When I say "accuracy increase" I eactually mean "dispersion decrease". The maximum dispersion decrease currently available in the config files is 70% in steps of 0.7% (100 steps) but for reasons stated above this should not be possible to achieve in a lifetime (well... maybe someone like TS could do it... but then, he doesn't use mods )
