Developer's 'Cut' Gripes

Considering that this game has been in testing for over 18 months and has been hyped for the best part of three years, I expected much better.

On the surface IT IS better. Even if I have to play in Static rendering bc of a lowish powered PC. I can live with the crappy erroneous shadow casting.

But a game should be a pleasure to play. Immersive. Consuming.
Difficult? Certainly! Challenging? Definitely! But it should also reward "smart" play. DC isn't doing this, in fact it's p*ssing me off mightily.

Crashes aside (to be honest, only Nimble's vanishing act has caused me strife so far, so the stability of the 1.4 engine looks good imho), I appreciate a bit more gameplay. The early Mail Jacket helps too.

BUT..
I should wait for dark and sneak into the Military Checkpoint in a MJ with no NV and maybe a Fort-16 should things go pear-shaped (which is a raging certainty, of course)? I don't think so.

The mission isn't going away any time soon, I'll just GTFO of the level, take the SVDm-2 along for giggles, retire a sniper for Bes and come back with a scoped AKM74/2 and have it out with the Mils at their front gate.

(Before anyone asks, the MJ may not be retrofitted with NV)

Well all goes to plan - the sniper gets two through the TrenchCoat - I get his piece, and it's a REALLY nice piece too! Helps me retire three bandits down the road, liberate a loner who gives me a Flash - which gives me radiation poisoning...

I already noticed the FORTY KILO WEIGHT LIMIT in Cordon. Don't like the choice that I have to drop a perfectly good AKM74/2 next to the sniper..

No chance of liberating the scope from his rifle. Haven't yet noticed that it uses a rare ammo type (7.62x39mm) that is probably:
a) Unavailable
b) Incredibly expensive if it is available.
c) Available 4 to 7 levels away...
d) Might exist in some bugged stash somewhere with a probability of 0.03.

I take a quick vote to press on to Seriy, Mole, AgUnder, PratCatcher and then hopefully pick off an easy tower sniper by the wall break at the AgIntitute.

Did I mention that the firing mode key (V) does not work? All rifles stay in auto mode.
Forgot to mention that I gave up using my binocs back in Cordon.
Frankly - I wish that I had sold them ..

I retire this tower "sniper" and dash in to loot him, to discover:
That he was pot-shotting me with an AKM74/2U...

This game is a sick joke. It promised so much, but is turning out to be a disaster.

My actor never needs to EAT. (Shades of unpatched SoC)

But gets thirsty when the parameter bar decreases to abt 70% 'full'...

Quits running for inexplicable reasons even when stamina is well above the lower threshold.

Tried sleeping through it b4 (actor died in its sleep)
Drew out a couple of twit bandits for this crash, and was then waiting for a bit of gloaming because

So I ran back from the EO using the 2 sparklers and a pair of Flashes balanced with an urchin and a meatchunk using dead-reckoning because:

..and noticed that terrain and mimimap correlation is less than perfect, but that was clear around Bandit Mine too in a different scenario/attempt...

...Got back to the GMF, nearly dead from sleep deprivation, found a "safe space", put head down for five hours...
...Weather bug crashed the game...

So basically, it's a bust.

I'm not sure what's gone wrong, but I wonder if the 1.3 leak has meant that they have not given 1.4 to enough people to properly test.

Overall it's considerably more buggy than 1.3 - which had it's own issues - but in 1.4 I currently can't even get to the bar area, due to some nasty physics bug.

I even rolled back to the GMF, ran to Forgotten instead, (in the dark, no NV, everything trying to eat or shoot or burn me)
Actually GOT there, and tried to 'jump' to Yantar. The game gave me the level change popup, and promptly CTDd.

So my alternate strategy to get the SSP-99m and the Snowflake got nixed.
(Assuming that the SSP-99m is still there, and hasn't morphed into a Soldier Suit or the trick Skat-9 mil suit that the Devs thought was so FUNNNY in 1.3003)

As an aside: TWO YEARS ago, I had to pull a guy up on the LA wiki who was gushing about DC and verging on inserting content relating to DC into the LA wiki, on the grounds that:

a) DC was presumably in alpha so any content inserted was quite likely to alter before release.
b) No-one else at the wiki was able to corroborate his DC content because effectively he was playing a different game and doing so as a tester.
c) Was he aware of the leaking situation that led to the release of LA in the first place?

He was. He went off in high dudgeon and has not communicated since.
I don't expect this to change in light of this burnt offering of a release.
How in hell did this mess pass the testing phase?

Knackered binocs
No mode shift on long arms
Actor never getting hungry

Are SoC 1.0 bugs and were fixed a decade ago.
Someone's got a lot of explaining to do...

Just starting over - hope these fixes help...

Edit: And now I'm downloading the 1.4002 Big Patch. All credit to the team - they're responding pretty quickly to bug reports. Even starting again won't be too much of a pain as I'm really enjoying being back in 'the zone'.

Yes they are working minor miracles behind the scenes. I'm currently running 1.4002 (big) as well.
Good news! My actor needs to eat now.
Have not got as far as the "bar gate bug" but will probably be dling that fix after I retake the Agroprom.
Still no mode shift on rifles, which is a pain imho, but at least I have functional binocs (albeit without object discrimination)
The food and drink are doing what they were meant to do in 1.3003 (but didn't) - food and booze dehydrates you etc.
More of the artifacts are showing up...
I even raided the stash with the Snowflake - a major bonus at this stage.

Still.No.Night.Vision...

0 and 9 change the firing mode. V switches the ammo type.

this is from the change log of Lost Alpha DC 1.4000

Gameplay

- new binoculars
- binoculars now have upgrades, motion tracking is disabled by default


I, for one, love that - I usually remove the motion tracker manually (because that is how I prefer to play) - but this makes everything much smoother, so for that

hi, i used the teleport function to go get the suit, rifle and artifact, then t/port back to cordon. worked fine
