The "V" is the one not working - it could be just a STDIN map thing
but kudos for reminding me abt 0 and 9.
The V doesn't work for me (p**sing me off mightily)
I'll try sneaking up on it with the other two....

Come to think of it, V switches between bullet and grenade launcher ??
---END QUOTATION---

That's right, "Y" changes ammo type and "V" switches to the launcher and back. At this point I know the layout more by muscle memory than key designation.

...I can feel a headache coming on already. Maybe the EHT will earth through my neck later?

Had to laugh. The Chinese nv is pretty much useless, really not much better than nothing at all, and definitely not worth the money!

One small moan, the location of Strelock's key in underground Agroprom is fantastically hard to find without resorting to Google. Even knowing where it was I still struggled to get it.

I don't mind things being hard, but when they are too hard there's no satisfaction for me, and will merely incline me to use Google for solving LADC item hunts again.

It's only a very small moan, as overall 1.4002 is looking good.
---END QUOTATION---

You're welcome. I have to try for humour or the Zone will take me (again)
I also agree with your last point - 1.4002 is looking to be a Pseudodog compared to the 1.4000 toxic Rat brain.

S.C.A.R. pretty much blew the whistle on Strelok's key for me; when I saw that the AgUn entrance kept on going down, and down, and down, I sussed that it had to have a REASON.
So I found it first time.
Doubt if that will be the case in X18 later on...
Come to think of it - wish I'd had another look at Siddie's inventory as mentioned elsewhere in the thread. Instead of using 3 skill points and getting a ~9000 deal with Barkeep, perhaps I could have done better with my resources. Who knows? It's an added dimension...

Unless I missed something, the NV (Alibaba sourced - and due to fail 10 minutes after the 7 day guarantee expires), does NOT appear to be in my HUD. So if it's now mounted on my whoopee SSuit, then I might need ANOTHER unit later.

Hopefully, this will be the British or German version sourced through a Trader contact in Andorra.

We shall see.

Did I mention that the firing mode key (V) does not work? All rifles stay in auto mode.

0 and 9 change the firing mode. V switches the ammo type.
---END QUOTATION---

Thanx for that, but..
"9" is previous fire mode
"0" is next fire mode with..
"V" being just 'fire mode'

...the thing is, if you scratch Sid's back, he'll scratch yours... don't rush through The Zone, stay a while and do some missions and scout the area(s) you enter - there much more to this game than meets the eye
---END QUOTATION---

Good advice!

I was finding the game very dark, adjusting r2_tonemap_lowlum x.x and r2_toneamp_middlegray x.x (one up the other down) has helped a lot, and made the NV actually useful.

Another nice double-win!

Night-Vision goggles are on sale in the Bar! ...13,000+ Ru though...

---END QUOTATION---

You can get those from Sid early on - this is a screenshot from after I saved Fox, but before I stole the documents from the military base and before I left Cordon

Sorry to say but I'm starting to agree - which is a shame as initial impressions are fairly good - excepting geometry issues, with white lines flying through the scenery (never seen in 1.3x)

As for 'I should wait for dark and sneak into the Military Checkpoint in a MJ with no NV and maybe a Fort-16...' yeah agreed = stupid!!!

I'm not sure what's gone wrong, but I wonder if the 1.3 leak has meant that they have not given 1.4 to enough people to properly test.

Overall it's considerably more buggy than 1.3 - which had it's own issues - but in 1.4 I currently can't even get to the bar area, due to some nasty physics bug.
hi, i used the teleport function to go get the suit, rifle and artifact, then t/port back to cordon. worked fine

I'm sure it worked 'fine' for you.
I prefer to see if a game is playable without resorting to such subterfuge.
i.e, playable as is.
---END QUOTATION---

i was replying to someone who was looking to get the suit, play the game however you like. hold your name up to a mirror

The 'Chinese' nv works.

Just very badly.

But then, it's 'cheap'.

...in the inventory there looks to be a special slot for night vision goggles....

Two pieces of good news.

Night-Vision goggles are on sale in the Bar! ...13,000+ Ru though...

1.4002 has solved the crash when entering the Bar area from Garbage.

Great stuff!!!
---END QUOTATION---

Outstanding news! 13000Ru is not so bad when you see that a Downloads module is 11000Ru.

(Hopefully - they work...)
