"Ok, so what now?" I asked Andrew after resting on the ground, praying that no more horrifying undergrounds would stand in my way.
"Well, we can go back to our place in Pripyat. It is safe there, easily defensible." He pointed off towards the buildings just beyond the trees, "Where are you heading? I assume you were not just running about inside the NPP for your health."
"I'm trying to get to a place called 'Zaton', you know of the place?" I asked.
Andrew laughed, "Good luck, we've been trying since we foolishly arrived here. These parts of Pripyat are completly closed off from the world, even the world of the Zone. I can take you as far as the borders of Pripyat, if you find a way out, good for you....But don't hold your breath, optimism doesn't exist in these parts of the Zone."
I nodded, hopefully he was wrong. I looked down at Tall One who was lying against a tree and approached him, "Hey mate, we're getting out of here."
I quietly stared at him, then noticed my fear was true...Again I'd lost a partner to this travel....I looked at Berezi and Andrew as they were packing up, "He's dead....We need to bury him, I won't just leave him to the dogs."
Andrew turned around, pulling his backpack on, "Listen, people die all the time in the Zone, you know this. You don't see us mourning Sergei's death, no matter how good a man he was. Leave him, he will only slow us down. This isn't the old parts of the Zone where the long ways were easiest, you need to move fast here. You slow down, you become some mutants dinner."
"Listen, you want to die here? Stay, we're leaving. You think having a heart will save you from some mutant?" Berezi snapped and stormed into the trees.
Andrew turned around a looked at me, pulling the AK74 that he and his group took from Tall One and tossed it to me, "Be careful." He nodded and ran off after Berezi.
So here I was, alone in the woods, in a completely unknown territory to all but Andrews group. I sat down against a tree, holding the rifle in my hands and staring at Tall One, "Looks like it's an omen to travel with me, huh?" I joked, but to an unfortunate extent, it was true. All who had travelled with me had died on this trip, and what? For my own wealth. I put the thought out of my head and dragged Tall Ones stiff corpse to a clearing and began pawing at the dirt, at least one person would get a real burial.
At last I had finished digging, it took several hours and I could tell it was at least 3 pm. As I was dragging Tall Ones body to the grave I heard movement in the bushes beside me, I dropped the body and swiftly brought the weapon into my hands. As I aimed I heard a growl and the largest Psuedodog I'd ever seen approached the body, eyeing me constantly as it began knawing on the body. I fired off a round a watched as the round dug into the mutant, but not killing it. I fired another as it charged me, the round struck it's skull and killed it outright. I checked the body and then tossed Tall Ones body into the grave, as I began tossing dirt into the grave I heard about ten barks, and not normal barks, but the horrifying barks of Psuedodogs. I abandoned burying Tall One and ran, even if I shot at them, I wouldn't have enough rounds and I'd be torn to pieces, especially if they were as big as the other one.
Finally I found myself out of the trees and the howls and barking of the Psuedodog pack were far behind me and in front of me stood the buildings of West Pripyat, How would I find Andrew's hideout? I had to figure out that problem later, I was stuck here, surrounded by god knows how many invisible dangers. I moved in and out of the building alleys, refusing to move in the huge courtyards and wide streets. I had the same sense of forboding in this part of Pripyat as I had in the previous, I could only hope the watchers from the other side of Pripyat were not present in this area but I couldn't get the thought out of my head that I had instead ventured into a further level of this hell. I noticed the buildings were much more different than the previous area I had travelled through, this place looked like a huge place just waiting to ambush me....And I was right.
As I rounded a corner and into an old hotel courtyard I heard an extremely loud pulse sound followed by a huge bang. Before I could gather my senses the wall in front of me exploded, sending me flying back and slamming into a trashcan. I slowly stood up as another shot exploded the ground, sending me flying back into the alley, looking up from the ground, trying to get air back into my lungs, I saw a thin man peaking from the roof of the hotel, I couldn't see any features except the weapon he carried wasn't like any I had ever seen. I picked up my AK74 and rolled behind the wall and peaked out, I could see the figure looking around for me. Finally it appeared he had given up, and he stood up, and as he did I squeezed the trigger.
I could almost see the round strike the man, as if in slow motion. As he screamed he gripped his stomach and tumbled off of the building and into the courtyard with a loud thud. Standing up I looked around and saw the courtyard was empty, I began moving forward. One step, two step....I kept counting in my mind, looking at the windows for any sign of movement. Finally I made it to the otherside and looked at the man I shot, he was wearing a trench coat and an old gas mask with a picture of an atom on one eyepiece. After I checked his body for food, finding none, I turned my attention to the weapon. It was large, very large, and seemed to have odd coils and wires on the barrel. It had a simple marksman scope on it, but the weapon was in good condition for falling a good 10 stories. It was heavy and it's clip oddly enough looked like a battery, I aimed the weapon at a nearby sign post and pulled the trigger, the weapon kicked more than I imagined, leaving a nice bruise on my shoulder. The sign post was obliterated by the round, which seemed to be some kind of electrical propelled object which travelled faster than any round I'd ever seen.
After I took the dead shooters rucksack and stuffed the odd weapon inside, I moved further into the city, hopefully finding Andrew and Berezi.

*Sorry for the Delay, been extremely busy*
After an hour of mindlessly wandering around Pripyat, searching old hotels and buildings in search of my former companions, I had to rest. My legs were aching from all the walking and the physical pain I've put myself through since I left the Cordon, and my headache was matching the pain in my legs. I sat down on a bench in an overgrown park and lied down, rubbing my forehead....How I wished I hadn't left the Cordon....I could have, instead of going on this death march, simply sneaked past the far military patrols and found a nice job in the mainland, but no. I was stuck in one of the most unknown places on the planet, and alone no less.
Five minutes must have gone by when I heard something growling from the rooftop of the park restrooms. I quickly snatched the strange weapon from the bag and pulled the sight to my eye, rolling off of the bench and watching for whatever creature was going to jump out. I could hear the tiles on the rooftop shifting as whatever was on the roof moved towards me, and I could just now see a pair of eyes staring at me. I recoiled in fear and pulled the trigger of the weapon, it kicked even harder with more pressure on the trigger, and a large chunk of concrete and tiles were launched into the air as the projectile struck the building. The creature, which in the glimpse I saw of it, appeared to be a Bloodsucker. The Bloodsucker landed beside me and was growling somewhere from the bushes, obviously eyeing the devastating weapon in my hands.
"Come on! Kill me!" I yelled, confidently, knowing the rifle would obliterate the Bloodsucker.
I heard the bloodsuckers low growl, it was closer now.
"What are you-" I was cut off as the beast leapt from the bushes. I ducked and rolled behind the bench as the creature spun around, it's jaw wide open and twitching. I rose the weapon and aimed dead center on its chest and pulled the trigger with all my strength, this time it kicked so hard that I dropped the weapon, but the Bloodsucker which was about to attack moments before was splattered all over the park, what was left of its actual body was a distgusting mushy mess. I wiped the blood off of my face and chest and stood up, stuffing the weapon into my bag and rushing off, not wanting to around when the Pripyat dogs come to clean up the mess.
I walked further into the dead city when I finally saw an old laundromat. I approached and slowly pushed the door open. It was completely dark inside and only the lightning from the fastly approaching storm lit the dark corners. I was in the back rooms and saw the place was empty, I checked upstairs and it too was empty. Sighing in relief, I shoved a washing machine in front of the doors and went upstairs, tossing my stuff on a dirty matress which lied underneath a window. I peered through one of the slits in the wooden slabs covering the window and saw movement in the building across from me, what, or whoever it was was lumbering around in circles, he seemed to be tall and wore a regular stalker suit but I couldn't see his face. Was it Andrew?
Just to be sure I pulled my headlamp from the bag and held it to the window, flashing it three times.
The man stopped and slowly raised his head, revealing a bloodshot, crazy eyed stalker....A Zombie. I covered the light and quickly ducked down behind the window as the Zombie began groaning and screaming, banging on the window of his building. I sat silently for a minute, listening to the rain hit the tiled roof of the laundromat mixed in with the sound of the zombies groaning when I suddenly heard voices in the courtyard. I sprung up to look out the window, expecting Andrew and Berezi, when I saw two men of a faction I thought I escaped....The Reds.
They were talking amongst themselves and both wore the same black fur coat and dark blue jeans. The only exception to the matching uniform was the one who carried a large PKM with a long ammo belt hanging over his shoulder. I put my ear to the window and listened to their conversation.
"So how are we going to get out of here?" The one with the PKM asked.
"No damn idea, the little bastard got away anyway, I don't know why the Commandant requested him dead. He only got two retards who couldn't take down one unarmed army boy."
I leaned back....They were looking for me. I picked up the weapon and further listened to their conversation.
I lowered down and watched them, they had stopped and had their weapons ready.
"Zombie in the window." The one with the PKM rose the large weapon and blasted at the window, blasting away concrete and glass as well as obliterating the Zombie, "Clear!"
"That must have been the tenth one so far! We're going to run out of-"
They stopped talking and looked at the laundromat, I ducked down and realized that my light was accidentally turned on and was shining right outside the window at the two Red headhunters. I looked out again and couldn't see them as I heard banging at the doors....I had to hide.
*Sorry for such a short one with a cliffhanger, but I gotta go out. Btw, Quantum, Cremator, you two are the Red Headhunters. I know one of you requested to be a Red*
