Tales of Nik Boa

Hey guys, this is my new story. i will maybe continue on Horrors of the Zone later on, but i am not certain. comments are as always, welcomed!
i don't care if its negative or positive! Enjoy

Tales of Nik Boa
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Prologue----------------------------------------

Nik's eyes burned as glimpses of the sun reached his vision. he sat up with a clumsy and tired movement. the year was 2011, and it was summer. it was Nik's favorite season, because he likes the wildlife and the birds flying around. of course, there was not many birds in the Zone nor any normal wildlife. the only thing you can find in the zone is death, as many stalkers say, and thats for a good reason. Nik grew up on a farm. he had always liked nature and its wildlife, but there was nothing he liked about the zone. he came to the zone five months ago,
and at that time it had seemed like a good idea. he thought that the zone was a place filled with adventure and fortune, but when he came there he only found death and sorrow. Nik reached out for his lump of bread in his backpack, finding nothing. after a thorough search, he gave up. "Ah Dammit! that was my last piece of bread!" he muttered to himself, angry about the fact that he ate the last piece of bread last night. there was plenty of vodka tough, and that's always good. he took a bottle and started drinking. "damn this is good stuff...." he once again muttered to himself. he packed his bottle down his backpack, and then grabbed his TOZ 34 and started to walk. he slept in a little shed with no roof right beside the rookie camp. his pistol holstered at his hip, but it was a little loose so he could quickly draw it if any trouble were to come around. he saw a bunch of military guys talking to a stalker up in the camp. Nik ignored them and walked over to wolf.
"Good morning wolf! any orders from Sidovorich?" he asked. Wolf turned his attention against Nik and said "good morning Nik. yeah, he left an order for a jellyfish... a real milk run if you ask me. i wish i could join you but i have to look out for these rookies". Nik grinned in reply and then said "somebody's gonna look after them, right? maybe another time then". he turned around, setting course for the nearby forest. he saw that the military guys was still asking stalkers questions and then he quickly turned around to wolf again. "hey by the way, what are the military goons doing here?" he asked curiously. Wolf raised an eyebrow and then said. "haven't you heard? as from the look on your face i can see you haven't. some soldiers are missing and they are asking us for help. yeah, US. pretty weird, huh?" Wolf replied. Nik nodded in reply. every time the military was here it was because of a "Health" check, which included confiscating artifacts and harassing the stalkers. or because some stalker had shot one of their guys and then they would march in here asking anyone if they knew the stalker.
"Well, i hope they give a good reward then. i do hope that there IS a reward" Nik said, laying extra pressure on IS, because the army usually don't give rewards. he left the camp, searching for any nearby springboard anomalies.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
end of the prologue. i hope you liked it

What I meant with ''last story'' is that I won't write for a long time. That's why it is called the ''Last Trip''

heres chapter one

Tales of Nik Boa
chapter one
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"grrr... thats the third springboard and no jellyfish in sight..." Nik mumbled to himself. he scouted the region of artifacts but found none.
he got scared when a dog suddenly appeared from a bush and jumped on him. its large teeth constantly snapping together reaching out for Nik's throat. he could see the dog's horrifying face, he could see the scars of former battles. he could see the dry blood around its mouth, and if he didn't do something about the dog soon then it would be his blood around the dog's mouth. he had encountered worse critters, but to underestimate it would be foolish. he managed to kick it off him, buying him some breathing time. he quickly pulled his Fort-12 pistol and fired two rounds, forcing the dog to a stop. the dog yelped and licked its wounds. Nik wasn't sure if he should kill it. he loved dogs, and he would never do anything to hurt one. even not mutated killing machines like this one. sure, he had killed blind dogs before, but this one was lonely and had no pack. he thought about not killing it, but then again, if he didn't it would properly just kill another stalker.
Nik walked over to the dog without further thought. he holstered his pistol, and pulled out some bandages. he took a ragged piece of cloth
and tied it around the dog's mouth, making sure that it would not bite him. he had no idea how he was going to travel back to camp with this dog, and he couldn't imagine the other stalkers reaction. he stopped the dogs blood loss with the bandages, and then picked the dog up on his shoulders. while he was walking, he suddenly remembered why he came out here in the first place. the artifact! he thought about what to do but then thought "ehh, fuck it!" and dropped the assignment.
the rookies looked at him if like he was crazy. the dog had been silent most of the trip, properly because of the pain. he lay the dog down on his mattress in his shed, and then walked out to Wolf, who were like many times, raising an eyebrow. "errr..... are you crazy or what? that dog is still alive! what are you gonna do about it?" Wolf asked. "look, look its not dangerous. its wounded and it needs shelter. it won't harm the rookies" Nik explained. "yes yes thats all fine and that, but what are you gonna do when its fine again?" Wolf asked again.
it came like a bullet to the brain for Nik. yes, he had taken the dog to shelter, but what should he do when its fine again?. "i don't know. maybe i will it tame" Nik finally replied. "pfff.... good luck with that!" Wolf said quickly. "anyways, did you get the artifact?" Wolf continued.
"no" it sounded from Nik. he went back to his shed and treated the dog's wounds.

heres chapter two

Tales of Nik Boa
chapter two
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the dog had fallen asleep, and Nik went outside. it was getting dark and the screams of distant souls filled the night. he went over to Wolf, who were sitting around the camp fire alone. the other rookies had fallen asleep, and there was only three rookies still awake and they were on guard post. "So, hows the dog?" Wolf asked quietly, without even looking at Nik. Nik sat down beside him and pulled out a bottle of vodka and started to drink little by little. "its fallen asleep" Nik replied. he handed the bottle over to wolf who took it and also started drinking.
the warmth of the vodka filled the body, leaving out the cold chill.
Wolf gave Nik the bottle back, leaving only little vodka left.
"why so gloomy, friend?" Nik asked after some time. he could see that Wolf had something on his mind. Wolf looked at the fire, not even looking at Nik. "Why would you ask me that?" he replied after few seconds. now, it was Nik's turn to raise an eyebrow. "hmmm... lets see,
first of all you haven't even looked at me. you always do that when you are gloomy or sad. second, you emptied half of my bottle!" Nik explained. Wolf then turned his attention to Nik, with a little smile on his face. "ehh, you got me there. i don't know why i am sad. its just this feeling..... you know the one you get when you are in the zone"
wolf replied. his smile faded away within seconds, leaving only his serious look. "hmmm.... you mean when you feel lonely even if you are surrounded by people and you are getting the feeling of being here forever? sure, thats just the zone for ya" Nik said in a more joking mood, hoping to cheer Wolf up. he didn't though. "yeah... thats the one..." Wolf replied once again. "whats the matter, friend? you know that vodka always helps in that case. here, let me get some. this one is on me" Nik said quick, while he got up and got his backpack and pulled out two bottles of vodka. the bottles shined in the moonlight, and it sounded like glass being rubbed against glass as he carried them over wolf. "Thanks friend" wolf said as he reached out for one of the bottles and grabbed it. he hurled the warm fluid down his throat, throwing his head back and laughing. "its always good to have a friend in the zone. Cheers!" he said while they raised their bottles and then started to drink again. "where do get this stuff, anyway? i mean, they are expensive as hell!" Wolf asked with a rough and loud voice.
"ehh, what do you think i use all my money from the artifacts for?" Nik replied with a weird drunk voice. Wolf raised the bottle once again, and it nearly fell out of his grasp because of his fumbling hand "for...for vodka!" he said, while Nik raised his bottle too. Wolf had a terrible headache after he woke up, not a big surprise though. he saw a man wearing a long black trench coat in front of him. the man had a gas mask covering his face, and his armor looked like the ones the army guys wore. although it was painted black. it was Nik. "come on, you lazy bum! i have got a replacement for your duty. lets go artifact hunting!" Nik said with a clear and happy voice.

Heres chapter three

"are you sure that the rookies will be okay?" Wolf asked for the third time.
Nik turned around and said "YES! for god's sake, YES! this is the third time you ask me that question! now come on, we've got some artifacts to find!". they continued up the dirt road but then stopped when they saw a body laying on the middle of the road. there were bite marks all over the corpse, and its arm was missing. it was a rookie, that was for sure. in his remaining hand he held a PMm. he wore a black hoodie with a balaclava covering the lower part of his face. Wolf stood still for a few moments, but then walked over to the body. "DAMN! i know this guy! i sent him out for a jellyfish just the other day!" Wolf shouted. as they was closer to the body, they could see that bullets had pierced his body, so it was obviously not the work of the local wildlife. the torn off arm, however was torn off by a creature of some kind. of course when you live in the zone stuff like this is common but its not something you get used to. "Hmmm..... this was obviously caused by bandits... or just a REALLY desperate stalker" Nik muttered while he thought about where the bandits could have gone. there was no traces of them, so he thought that the bandits had shot him at a distance and then moved on, but that was not something the bandits do. they act like vultures, picking off everything thats on the stalker, money, artifacts, weapons, body armor and maybe even clothes if they are worth it. no, this must have been something else. the corpse was only one day old, and it was nearly eaten up. but as Nik always says to himself, "thats just the zone for you". the dog was still sleeping and he had asked one of the rookies to look after it.
"who could have done this?" Nik asked silently. moments passed but then Wolf finally answered "i have no clue. it could have been the army, but we have a non-aggression pact right now". Nik started to think again but he couldn't really come up with an explanation. Wolf was sitting on his knees, studying the corpse. "hmmmm.... it could have been a zombie" Nik said, hoping to find an explanation for this weird murder. "no. the zombies usually don't walk down to the cordon. plus, if i know rookies right, which i do, then he would have ran for hills if he just as much heard a zombie" Wolf replied, with the same serious tone that he always spoke in. "leave the corpse. lets head back to camp and warn the other stalkers. may he rest in peace" Nik said silently after some seconds. Wolf nodded in reply, and started to walk.
they arrived at the camp, where they heard some stalkers shouting and discussing something. four stalkers had gathered around a camp fire,
and the two of them were apparently holding one of the stalkers back.
"ITS JUST A DOG MAN! NOW CALM THE FUCK DOWN!" a stalker yelled.
Nik saw that the stalker that was held back was wounded. a bandage was tied around his lower leg, and it was covered with red dye, properly blood. the stalker got loose and punched the other stalker right in the face, sending him down on the ground. he pulled his knife and threatened the other stalkers. "whoa! calm down man! it was just a dog bite!" one of the stalkers yelled. "JUST A DOG BITE? WHO THE FUCK WAS SO STUPID TO EVEN LOCK A FUCKING DOG IN A SHED!"
the stalker with the bandage shouted angrily. the stalkers hadn't noticed Nik and Wolf approaching them. Nik stood right behind the stalker with the knife, and the made a fake cough. "hmmm.... you must be looking for me, right?" Nik said with a gruff tone. the stalker turned around and yelled "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? IS THAT YOUR FUCKING DOG?". Nik kept a calm face, unaffected by the rookie stalkers words.
"yes, its my dog. why?" Nik continued calmly. "A SMART-ASS ARE WE?
I WILL TEACH YOU NOT TO MESS WITH..." his sentence was disturbed
by a kick right to the stomach, followed by a punch hammering into the rookie's face, causing his nose to bleed. Nik disarmed him by placing a quick punch to his jaw, and then kicked the stalker's hand which caused the knife to fall out of his hands. the rookie were still coming to his senses, having no idea about what had just happened. Nik pulled his
pistol and hammered the pistol's grip right down on the rookies back head, causing the rookie to fall down unconscious.
