Full version of the text so far along with corrections
Overall it's a cool story, except some points,... if you're still interested. But I guess it's not final and full version. At least it looks like unfinished.
---END QUOTATION---

e-mail me the points and I'll have a look.

I still intend to finish this one

I did - good suggestions and I haven't got back to you because I haven't actually looked at the story for quite some time and my copy doesn't match the one I posted as an up-to-date version.

Hopefully I will be posting the fuller version and longer version by the end of next week.

(A few more paragraphs - more to follow)

We packed up our camp slowly and reluctantly. It was obvious that my warnings had had an impact on my two companions. They had finally begun to realise exactly how dangerous the Zone really was. So far our time in Zone had been relatively quiet, a few small anomalies, an anomaly field, no mutants and no other Stalkers. It had been unsettling me somewhat. This was not what I had been expecting. In fact I’m sure that I was expecting to be dead by now.

As the other two finished packing the rest of the camp up, I stood on a small rise and scanned the entire horizon. The view to the south was blocked by a wood and I could just make out the chimneys and the taller buildings of Limansk to the south east. Beyond the block house, to the east, the rolling ground stacked up to become a set of low hills, blocking my view of anything beyond. The north was empty land devoid of any features whatsoever and so was the west. I could just make out a small herd of Fleshes to the west, but they weren’t coming in this direction.

I had been told that the block house was small, had a single entrance, was surrounded by a fence and sat within a vast anomaly field. Well three out of four wasn’t two bad. It was the absence of the anomaly field that was worrying me. It was true that the very large emissions had changed the Zone in subtle ways before, but the last emission must have been so large that it changed everything. The block house was very small but it was in the wrong place. We had travelled at least five klicks further south than I knew where it should have been.

Dmitriy handed me my pack and joined me on the ridge, Alex stood behind us. I hoisted my pack on to my back and adjusted the straps for comfort. I looked at both of them and nodded, neither one said anything. They both looked very grim. I shouldered my Vepr and started slowly down the small rise towards the block house.

I moved slowly, deliberately placing each foot slowly and gently in front of me. I threw a bolt every few metres ahead hoping that I wasn’t going to throw the bolt into an anomaly. I kept looking over my shoulder and checking that the other two were doing exactly what I had told them to do. And they were. They moved as I did and stayed only a metre away from me and each other. And we were lucky. There were no anomalies. No anomalies anywhere in the field. At least nowhere in the vicinity of the path we were beating through the knee length grass to the gate in the fence surrounding the block house.

When I reached the gate I pulled out a small EM detector and scanned the gate for anything out of the ordinary. Some anomalies altered the structure of things like metal gates and if an anomaly had changed the structure of the gates then they would give off some sort of electromagnetic emanation, the type of emanation would depend on the nature of the anomaly. The EM detector was completely silent.

I pushed at the gate and one side started moving. The top hinge of the left gate sheered off with a sharp grating noise. The inner corner of the gate dug into the ground and the gate stuck at an angle. The gap was just large enough for us to squeeze through if we took our packs off. I had only felt as vulnerable as I did squeezing through the gate, and that was when I was lying on the ground dying after the gravitational anomaly had beaten the shit out of me. But eventually I was in and the other two followed closely behind. We were only a few metres away from being inside the bunker and only a few metres away from the largest concentration of artefacts in the Zone. Or at least that was what I had been told.

Good ones. I just missed where they got in the Zone, if they were heading south, and got Limansk in south east.

And I'll email you some thoughts on some points, if they are still needed.

I did say that the NPP was due east and that the bunker was just north west of Limansk. I'm probably taking a few liberties with distance though.

(The edited full version of the story will get posted soon)

The block house was small. It was about eight metres by eight metres made of red bricks on top of cinder blocks and had no windows. I asked Alex and Dmitriy to stay near the main gate and the door to the block house as I took a slow, steady walk around the building hoping to get any indicators as to what was inside. There were no other doors or entrances, although I couldn’t see on to the roof, there were a couple of air vents, but no way in except through the main door. Assuming that we could get in through the main door. There were no signs above the door, no signs attached to the fence and nothing on the walls either. I found a couple of bits of rotten wood on the ground, entangled in the long grass, near the fence that could have been an old sign board long since crumbled away.

The door itself was an old steel door, rusted and pitted, but still very, very solid. I scanned the door with my EM scanner and didn’t get a peep out of it. There was no handle on the door and there also didn’t appear to have a lock on the door. This could only mean that the door could only be opened from the inside. I was beginning to think that I would have to use C4 to get the door open.

I moved closer to the door and from the look on Dmitriy’s face he had already had a look at it. He smiled. ‘Don’t worry,’ he said quietly, ‘I didn’t touch it. I just gave it the once over. Looks solidly closed.’ He pulled his pack off and started rummaging in it; I guessed that he was looking for some C4. The fact that he was keeping the C4 at the bottom of his pack, loose, was a bit of a worry. ‘Hmmm,’ I agreed.

‘Let’s try the quiet way before we go for the very loud sound and big bright light option.’ Dmitriy looked a little hurt and stopped rummaging. I turned back to the door and gave it a hefty push. The hinges squealed but the door barely moved it did move though. I dropped my pack against the wall next to the door and squared myself up t o the door. I leaned my full weight against the door and pushed with my legs. The door shrieked from the hinges and from the bottom of the door scraping against the concrete floor of the block house. The door moved slowly and I felt one of the others, probably Dmitriy as Alex didn’t really have the weight, add their weight and was pushing with me. The door, slowly but inexorably, screeched open. A short corridor opened before us and seemed to disappear into darkness.
